It was a very long time since my last experience at this location. Everything was almost the same and great but the sitting arrangements and the seats were upgraded and better. With summer on the way and some good and interesting movies being released soon, I think I'll go back there again for some good movie nights! :) read more

One of their employees allowed the popcorn to burn causing the fire alarm to be set off. Everyone had to evacuate. They kept the movie playing and did not reset it so my daughter missed 20 minutes of the movie she paid an absurd $22 for. No refunds were provided. This theatre has definitely improved what with pandemic renovations and full recliner seating becoming available. The facility is really well maintained and has a lot of parking available. I've probably visited this location the most out of any Edmonton-area theatre in the past several years. Lately I really appreciate the availability of weekday matinees so as to keep COVID-19 risks low. Digital ticketing and online purchases are quite convenient and COVID protocols serve to increase safety now that they are open again but I still don't visit particularly frequently. read more

Went to Dead Pool tonight. Had to sit through 1/2 hour of commercials, I was ready to leave before the movie even started. A popcorn and 2 sodas was $27. They did not even turn the lights on in the theatre when the credits were done. I'm visually impaired and it was not easy getting out of the theater. Needless to say I won't be going to any movies again anytime soon and if I do it will not be at this theatre. read more

This theatre is just ok, dirty seats with goop stuck on them, cup holders, and washrooms not the tidiest either. There were 2 cashiers and not a long line as most people were using the self serve machines. Price was right, around $8 for a Tuesday show right before 6. We went to use a coupon for popcorn and the kids pack is somewhat awkward to carry and have in your lap. Maybe that's why it's for kids but it's the perfect snack size for an adult! I found the volume was not loud enough for our movie, although I could hear it but I would have liked it louder. Not a theatre I would enjoy coming to often. read more

Big comfy seats, clean theatres, and good projectors make for a great date night experience. Clean bathrooms and lots and lots of parking keep things going. BAD BOYS BAD BOYS ... Whatcha gonna do.. whatcha gonna do when they come for you... Went to go see BAD BOYS FOR LIFE at this theater... I hadn't been to a movie in a long time.. now I know why... $13.50 ! To see a movie? And this is why I hardly go. Anyway.. the theater was pretty clean ( a plus is the bathroom.. it has to be spotless.. and it was ) . Plenty of bathrooms too ( unlike other places I know ) The concessions though are super pricey. Popcorn is roughly $6 for a small bag ( butter is extra ... ). Sodas are 4-5 bucks ... for a small !! They even have a PIZZA 73 stand, poutine , hot dogs, candy galore, nachos, chicken fingers ( which is funny because chickens dont have fingers ) . Back to the movie... pretty good movie and the seats are super comfortable now ( they recline slightly ) . I been to one cinema in Dubai and thats a whole different experience ( blanket, pillow and seat service for concessions ) . The only thing that really bothered me a bit was the volume the movie is played at.. it's extremely loud - a little too loud for my liking ( but I suppose when people have a tenacity to yak on their phones during a movie , I can see why they would raise the volume to drown out the yikkers - why anyone needs to be talking on the phone during a movie is beyond me ! What is soooo important? Overall I would say it was a great experience but I can see how movie theaters will be a thing of the past eventually . I used to love going to the movies but with the prices it's become more of a treat ! The movie was actually pretty good.. if you loved the first two BAD BOYS movies, you will love this one as well.. it's kinda like the Lethal Weapon series- the guys are getting older so the violence is a bit too much but there's still plenty of action ) . I do not have a SCENE card - if you go to the movies often then it would be worthwhile to sign up and get some perks . There is a kiosk you can sign up for one. When we arrived to get our tickets it just happened to be really quiet. Service was great the lady who gave us our tickets was friendly. Grabbed a popcorn waited in line for a long time, but the concession was busy and we had time before our movie so I didn't mind. The popcorn was good and the concession attendant was friendly and tried to upsell us like he should. The theatre was clean, although my seat seemed broken but not enough for me to need to move. We saw The Upside and it was a hit. All three of us would give it a 10 out of 10. read more

This is one of the best cinemas in the city in my opinion. The line up is usually crazy, and it doesn't seem to matter what time of the day you go -- you will line up for at least a little while. But once you get inside, the theater is usually pretty clean and the staff are pretty nice too. The chairs are super comfortable! I can't even remember the last time I went to another theater other than this south common Cineplex, but I don't remember the seats being this comfortable. This is my favorite theatre in Edmonton. I think it's the busiest too. The reasons I like this theatre so much are because it is huge, they have yogen fruz, and the chairs recline. What more could you want from a movie experience!? Granted, it's expensive, but all movies are expensive these days. Thankfully, Telus Tuesdays are now in full operation at Cineplex Odeon South. You get a movie admission and popcorn and a drink for less than the price of one normal admission on any other day! YAY! I love a good deal! As I said, this is a very busy theatre so the lineups can get pretty ridiculous. I like this Cineplex facility as It's close to my office so I can come her any day. At this theater you can find 1 DBOX Screen, 7 (3D) Screens, 2 UltraAVX Screens, 16 Screen in total, 2 Party Rooms, XSCAPE Entertainment Centre and an ATM. Outtakes is the company in charge of the fastfood in the movie theater, they offer hot dogs, fries and poutine, nachos, beef burgers, wraps, chili, chicken tenders, brownies, etc. They also have pizza 73 and Poptopia. If you are on the south side, this is your best choice. I hope in the near future they can have an IMAX screen as there are just two IMAX screens in the city, one on the WEM and the other one on Telus World of Science but nothing on the south of the city. read more

This is as good a theater as any in the city. Actually it's one of the better ones. It doesn't have IMAX though. It is the only theater on the South side so I come here often. My favorite thing about this locaiton is the pizza pizza they have inside. The pizza is so thing and crispy and delicious. Nothing compares to eating one of their pepperoni pizza's while watching a good movie. read more

This location is very similar to the other locations in terms of what they offer. It's nice to be able to go to a movie on Tuesday's when tickets are cheaper, but the snack and drink prices are always crazy expensive. The seats in the AVX theatres are quite comfortable and spacious so that's a plus. read more

Went to see a movie today... first one in a couple of years. At the snack counter I chose the combo 2. This gave me 2 popcorn, 2 pop and 2 chocolate bars. All for the low low price of 40.00:(. At any rate, they didn't have a vitamin water in zero calorie. I asked for a water. Expecting a bottle of water got water from the tap/fountain. Top that off with very very limited selection of candy. Although the candy I wanted was there.... I would have to pay an additional charge for it. The popcorn was cold and butter rancid. 3 stars is not a bad thing... There's tonnes of parking and pre-movie dinner options. The ticket and food lines move very fast. I live about 3 minutes from South Common so this is my default theatre. And there's no reason for that to change. I always use Scene points for my tickets so I really can't complain about the prices. One thing that has changed in the last year or two is that they have moved the ticket tearing station to a central location. They used to have a station set up at each "Wing", so you could still get to the concession even if you didn't have a ticket. but now they moved it right to the front. So as soon as you buy your ticket, you hand it to the ticket tearer. I've never done this myself, but I know people who have stopped in just to get popcorn to take home. So with the new system, I guess you can't do that anymore. The theatres are clean and well kept, as are the bathrooms. Overall it is a very nice movie-going experience. So this is my movie theater, the one I normally come to besides Windermere. Now I don't have a problem with the long line ups. I don't have a problem paying $16 a movie ticket. I don't have a problem paying $24 for 2 pops and a popcorn. What I do have a problem with is this new policy of giving out old popcorn. I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but now they pre-bag the popcorn and let it sit under a heat lamp. The result is old, chewy popcorn. Definitely not worth what they charge (even the fresh popcorn isn't worth what they charge though). I have started asking for the fresh popcorn, of which they scoop some and put it on top of the old popcorn. No, no I want a whole bag of the fresh popcorn please, not just the top layer. So they roll their eyes and do it, and make me feel like I'm asking some outrageous request. Just give me fresh popcorn!!!! read more

Well, it's a huge Cineplex, probably like most across Canada. I will say that the movie ticket line usually moves pretty fast as does the popcorn lines. The line for the coffee bar and fro-yo is always unbearably slow however. I do like that if you miss supper they have a little cafe place that sells chicken fingers and pizza - nothing healthy but you are at the movies! The theatre and bathrooms are always pretty clean, not the nicest but far from the worst. The parking lot is huge, bigger then most, so parking is easier - compared to North Common, Windermere or WEM specifically. There is an Earls, Caffe Sorrentino, Famoso, Local and Joeys in the same or adjacent lots (I love pre movie vino!). On Tuesday's they have cheap night and it's usually not crazy busy. However Empire Theatre downtown does too and is much nicer, especially if you want to avoid kids. All in all it is a fine place to see a movie. Just remember to bring your Scene Card for extra discounts! read more

Kinda feel the same way about this place as I do about WEM - TOOO MANY PEOPLE!!! Yes - I must be getting old - I realize it most when I find myself thinking "damn punks" or "kids these days..." (while shaking my head in disapproval). When I was young this place was soooooo COOL (mostly cuz we were excited we found a ride out of the Park into the 'Big City' - OOOUUUUUU...). Now the desperate search for parking, huge lineups, and suffocating crowds just wear me out and then I'm lucky to stay awake through the movie (HAHA I know, right? So now your thinking - OK Amanda - grab your walking stick, head over to city center, and quit complaining - LOL - so true!) Ok, so if you don't mind the crowds then this place IS pretty awesome. Huge theaters, pretty comfy seats, and the new AVX theater dealio is pretty neat! Wide variety of food selections, lots of arcade games, party rooms, and many many theatres so they often have special features and neat kids events going on. Once a movie has been out for a while this place isn't so bad - I don't recommend coming on opening night though useless you are a true movie die hard or you have some odd passion/obsession for waiting in lines. read more

I debated whether to give this theatre three or four stars and I settled on four because I've never really had a BAD experience here and I think compared to the other big theatres that South Common Cineplex is gettin it done best. We've never had to wait to long for popcorn, which means both the workers are capable and there are enough cashiers on deck. That's good! Of course I can't dish out a five score because it is always super busy in there and my preference is to generally not be surrounded by people eager to find seats stacked up with pops n treats. But I mean you wanna see a popular movie ya gotta play with the big dogs know what I'm sayin??! Visited South Common theatres for the first time to treat myself to the new Harry Potter flick with some friends. There are some great things about South Common - huge parking lot (since it's not easily accesible by transit), plenty of theatres (so some movies have space to play a few weeks longer), and a lot of food options (although none of it is very good for you - pizza, popcorn, candy, frozen yogurt, and the like). The theatres here are big, with pretty comfy seats, too. Sat up in the top row for Harry Potter and the seats even leaned back a little bit. Bathrooms get line-ups, of course, but they do have a ton of stalls. South Common is a very busy theatre, though! Get here early for your favourite midnight show and be prepared to stand in line for a looong time. read more

This is the closest movie theater from my place, therefore the one I visit the most. It has lots of parking, so you won't have trouble finding a spot where to park. A cool thing about cineplex is that you can buy your tickets online or through your app and then just scan your barcode in the machine when you get there. No need to line up and no need print the barcode either. Theater rooms are in good shape, sound is great and the screens are big enough to enjoy a good movie. Washrooms are clean, and you will find them on both sides of the movie theater. They have cheap nights on Tuesdays, so you can expect a more crowded theater. Buy your tickets online and arrive early. If you have a Scene card, you will get extra discount on your ticket and food :) read more

Whenever we come here on a Friday or Saturday night it's mad busy. There's like no where to walk and you're constantly walking into people. We came to Cineplex on a Saturday afternoon and the place was pretty much empty. I'm not sure if that's the norm or if it was because the weather was really nice. It didn't really matter because I was able to fully enjoy the movie experience. I didn't have to keep standing up and down so people could get to their seats. I also didn't have to hear the annoying sound of smacking and crunching of popcorn. The customer service here is okay. The bathrooms are clean most of the time. And there's no better way to end a movie date than to play games at the Xscape Arcade! read more

Let's be honest if you're going out movies there are few other choices.... The Cineplex locations are fine places to go to. The place is clean for the most part. It is a fun night out and they do take coupons which can make the experience a little less pricey if that is a concern. Today, we were seeing Sisters, and we came during the day because it was sold out the night before. Thankfully, they had told us that before we walked in and ended up in the front seat. I personally don't like the fact they have cut out the refills on the pop and popcorn while raising prices but it's still a fun night (or day) out! I've come here for midnight movie premiers as well as middle of the day movies. The staff have never been particularly friendly but I have always enjoyed my movies. I like now that you can reserve seats for premiers, it makes the whole experience a lot better because you don't have to show up 4 hours before your movie to get a decent seat. This place is usually crazy busy on weekends so make sure you come early, this is one of the reasons I prefer cineplex north. Also be prepared for everything you buy to be over-priced... but you knew that before you even bought the tickets.... read more

Edmonton's second best theater. It's got a massive parking lot so issues parking, it's part of the Cineplex chain so you can use your scene points. And it's clean and tidy. It only get's second best because it's not as good as the VIP theater 10 minutes away which is aweeeesssome. read more

Gotta give this place 5 stars because of the staff's attitudes. Spent 17 hours here on Dec 17 as part of the Star Wars marathon and even at 4:30 am the staff were all pleasant and welcoming. Theater was comfortable and washrooms were well cleaned. Managers were also fantastic there. Had an issue at a concession till (it got stuck in a loop) so they had to get me to pay a second time and manager, Vamshi, made sure to give me his contact information in case I got charged twice. When I called on Monday morning because I did get charged twice, GM Stuart was incredibly helpful and made sure I was taken care of. For the second time in two months (out of maybe four trips to this particular location in that period of time), staff here left the house lights on well into a movie. This time around, it was at least 20 minutes -- I entered the theatre at 7:00 p.m. and staff didn't turn off the lights until at least 7:20 p.m. by my watch -- and when I went to speak with a gentleman who appeared to be the manager about this issue after the movie had ended, he insisted that the house lights were left on for only five minutes. Balderdash. The movie had already been playing for a few minutes when I entered the theatre, and having had the unnecessary and aggravating task of going out to inform staff that they had failed to turn off the lights there two months ago, I wasn't going to trouble myself with doing so again on this particular visit, missing part of the movie that I had paid to see. Thankfully, another annoyed customer took it upon himself to do so. When this manager-type fella was informed that I had checked my watch and that the house lights had been on for about 25 minutes, he was equally insistent that they had been left on for only five minutes, which is interesting, if only because he hadn't been in the theatre, whereas I had been. I told him that I verified it by my watch and it was 7:20 p.m. that staff visited the theatre and turned off the lights. I told him that I wasn't lying, and he insisted that he wasn't lying, either. The necessary implication of this is that the manager didn't believe me. I was given a courtesy ticket all the same, so all's well that ends well, but when management implies, either deliberately or innocently, that a patron as loyal as me is lying, that doesn't sit well with me. I don't need the free ticket -- I'm not skint -- but I do expect that cinema staff will observe bare minimum standards of competence when showing movies. A courtesy ticket goes a long way to say "we're sorry we messed up; here's a token gesture of apology". I'd rather not be served that courtesy ticket with an apparent mixture of disbelief and annoyance. I know that this is a particularly stressful time for cinemas and their staff members. I get that. Really, I do. But for the love of all things holy, try to avoid taking it out on faithful customers like me, even if you might be having a bad day. And if even your staff members are stretched to the limit, as I expect that they are, remember that customers are paying to watch movies in dark theatres. Please ensure that the house lights are turned off before the start of any films your customers are paying to see. read more

I went here today for the first time because I absolutely had to see The Muppets on the big screen. Wow - the place is huge! Definitely adequate parking. The seats are comfortable, have lots of leg room, and recline. I loved that there are multiple sets of washrooms conveniently located close to the theatres. Refreshments are expensive, but that's pretty much the story in all movie multiplexes - good variety, though. I wish the place was more accessible by public transit, but I discovered with planning it is not impossible. read more
