The store carries so many trusted and amazing brands, from high end products to alternatives with many affordable options. I love the Echo Park Time Travel Mart and wanted to give their Mar Vista location a visit sometime while I'm on the west side. Their hours are pretty limited. Google and Yelp claim Friday to Sunday from 12:00-6:00pm, but buried on their own website it says 2:00-6:00pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays. Not sure which is more up to date. But I've gone out of my way on two separate occasions when the hours overlap, and both times they've been closed anyway. Their website does warn they're often closed during their hours and to call ahead, but I haven't gotten an answer. (I guess because they're usually closed?) So yeah, if you can catch them when they're open, great! But I wouldn't advise going out of your way for it unless you can call in advance and confirm they'll actually be open.

Then I saw it on my IG feed weeks later and all I could think was how content creators over-hype all these hidden gems in LA. I just notice that influencers put an exaggerated spin on spots like these to make them seem a lot bigger or crazier than they actually are for the sake of views. Not to say they aren't worth visiting, but I think the fun part about these kinda shops is discovering it for yourself or that element of surprise. I've just been severely disappointed by some places I've visited that didn't live up to the expectations set by content creators. It's not the businesses fault, but just how social media works these days. Anyways, it's a small shop that you'll probably get through in a few minutes, but definitely worth checking out. Do not come here expecting mass produced pillow forms, upholstery or run of the mill kid costume fabric. Come here because you want something special at a price that won't give you a heart attack. Be prepared to hunt for treasures, and if you see something you love, BUY it, because most likely if you don't, someone else will. The family that owns and operates Rimmons are lovely. I read the two negative reviews, and to me, I perceived the reviewers as the problem. Too many people are used to cookie cutter chain stores run by people that have no connection or care for the business. You will not find that here. Each time I go, I feel like I am being welcomed into an extension of their home, in a way, and feel fortunate indeed that such places still exist in the world.

I'm a latina woman and stopped in and was browsing around, and was greeted with a seemingly urgent, judgemental "can i help you??" by a blonde woman who i assumed was the owner or an employee. This was not a friendly "hi, is there something you're looking for today? Let me know if you need anything :)" type of greeting, but moreso said with the undertones of "what are you doing in my store, please leave, you don't belong here" type of messaging in her tone. Obviously because that wasn't explicitly said, I don't want to claim that that's definitely what went down, but regardless, it left me with an icky taste in my mouth. I wish I could say it was maybe a classist judgement- still not a good look for a store- rather than racist judgement, but I was literally wearing an anthropologie outfit that day, so it's hard to make that assessment. So basically, my experience here was a bummer. I don't plan to come back here based on that interaction, but I wanted to.. And a note to the store owner: if you set up a shop in a neighborhood, don't be surprised if the customers match the demographic of that neighborhood.

The store itself had everything you could possibly be looking for, for a sewing project or anything related. Their selection of trims was incredible and they also had patches and other items, yarn as well. They also had many many rolls of different types of fabrics, and they also offer clothing modifications. The best part, in my opinion, was their shop dog, who was so incredibly friendly I spent more time petting him than I did browsing around the store. He was standing right outside of the store, so if you're wary of dogs , even though he's so friendly, it is good to note. The store is right on Lincoln Blvd and the parking situation might be difficult if the front areas of the store already have cars there. There is a small lot next to the store but it might be reserved for the restaurant next door. I parked in the residential area right next to the store, so I did not notice if the lot was specific to the restaurant only. The staff was very helpful and friendly as well. Was fun to just browse all of their items and it was nice to have a dog to pet!

His behavior was enraged, hostile, threatening.and very scary . The most horrifying part was when the woman asked him, "Are you kicking me out because I am Jewish and Israeli?" and he answered, "Yes, you are proving my point." That was not a misunderstanding. That was blatant antisemitism and discrimination. He was so aggressive that I genuinely feared he might physically attack her. I did not step in because the situation felt dangerous. What I witnessed was open antisemitic harassment against a Jewish Israeli woman. It was disgusting, frightening, and completely unacceptable. No one should ever be screamed at, humiliated, and thrown out of a business because they are of a certain race or religion. A couple minutes following this incident, the woman returned and politely asked to pick up her belongings which she left at the store probably due to her fear of being attacked . When the worker saw her - he became enraged and screamed at her to leave - refusing to give her - her staff. She said she will call the police and the man replied "i don't care - call whomever you want" She once again said she is calling the police and complaining about his business to the city and he finally gave her what she forgot when he kicked her out of the store . I am still shocked and shaking thinking about it, and I will never return. I hope this lady file a police report because this was clearly a hate crime and the store worker is also violating

Another customer walked in and happened to be interested in the exact same bikini, which was the last one available. Instead of understanding that I was simply discussing my options with my friend, the employee accused me of price comparing because the other customer was interested in the same bikini. I was not speaking to or interacting with the other customer, nor was I trying to interfere with her purchase in any way. I was simply having a private conversation with my friend and deciding whether I wanted to buy the item. I found the way the situation was handled unnecessary and uncomfortable. Customers should be able to have a private conversation while shopping without being accused of something based on an assumption.
