We really enjoy Cirque performances; however, "Toruk" was the worst Cirque experience, in my opinion. Toruk included beautiful set design that Cirque is know for. However, it contained none of the amazing human talents. Not the acrobatics or other performance art. Instead they used story-telling to compensate for lack of performance. That would be fine, if this was explained going in (and in that case, we would have avoided the show). But this really isn't the type of show we've come to expect from Cirque. In addition, the story telling was difficult to follow. Partially because there were many concurrent moving pieces, exacerbated by heavy use of the "Toruk" language, leaving the audience (who I assume was filled with people from the planet Earth) having to interpret the dialog through the drama. I get it. If I were a real thespian, I'd be fine without the dialog. Okay, sure. Unfortunately, I'm just an average person that wants to see an exciting, visually-stimulating, moving performance for the $100+ per ticket, once all fees are added. I've attached a couple photos of the beautiful set design, the one redeeming factor of the show (for me, at least).

Save your time and money, show is worthless, kids may enjoy the effects but the whole thing is a total joke for an adult

At the show with family, hated the show and my daughter 11 has seen more then 12 of them

Like many others have stated, this is by far the worst performance from Cirque, the performers were terrible, acrobatics was horrible, the story boring compared to the movie, felt like a African jungle with idiots beating on drums and running around like monkeys during most of the show. I've seen almost every show from cirque, MJ being the worst however this one topped it, people were leaving during intermission which I've never witnessed before. The pavilion was only 65% full which explains why the show has had terrible reviews from every news organization. Stay away save your money , go to vegas and watch O or Love , two of their best

It's about teenage angst, and about aging, too, "akimbo" referring somewhat to an awkward posture. It's not easy to explain the story without giving a lot away. It's funny and also personal. This performance was quite good, by a national troupe on a nation-wide tour. The staging is casual-looking, the acting perfectly real, the dance and singing quite good. We came in large part for the wonderful music: a variety of jazz, folk, and rock, plus more, in a cabaret style. The Hippodrome was easy to drive to on a weekday evening, coming as we did a few blocks east of MLK on Baltimore Ave, or you could drive west from Light Street on Fayette. We love the classic vertical sign and broadway-like marquee, especially when it's glowing at night! The attached garage was super convenient, with elevators direct to the theater lobby, but note: cash isn't accepted for parking. The inside 1914 theater-space is gorgeous! Ornate walls and ceiling, and plush seats. Our seats were pretty comfortable with enough legroom. The theater is beautiful - very comfortable and intimate - not a bad seat in the house. They have a couple of bars and some seating areas, which made for an enjoyable intermission. My only (very small) complaint about the theater is that it was hard to find the bathrooms, and we waited a while, because the one women's room we found was a single stall bathroom. I think there was a larger women's room somewhere, but we didn't find it! The play was interesting - I'd never seen a theater adaptation of a Jane Austen novel, and the adaptation was interesting and some of the actors were really great. We had a great time. I was surprised to see and learn that not all of the Company's performances are of Shakespeare - later this season, they have August Wilson's Fences (part of the Baltimore August Wilson Celebration), Shakespeare's The Tempest, A Christmas Carol, and Shakespeare's The Tale of Cymbeline (performed outdoors in Ellicott City). I'll happily return for another performance!
