    Before and after

We had a favorite family heirloom bench needing a new woven seat. We are absolutely thrilled with the workmanship and professionalism from Paul Thibodeau and his team. Thank you so much! Definitely worth it!

before and after; now we can actually use these chairs in our home!

Paul is a gem! He restored four original vintage Carl Hansen Hans Wegner CH23 chairs to perfection for us. The original paper corded seats were falling apart after 70 years of use, naturally, and after searching far and wide for someone who knows everything about these chairs, we found Citizen Cane and Paul! He replaced them perfectly with a perfect period-appropriate Danish weave, all four are immaculate.

I was referred to Citizen Cane Chair repair from a friend and they did not disappoint! I was gifted these chairs but they were in need of repair. Paul was incredibly communicative and even finished the chairs early. His service was well worth it , prices are quite reasonable and the result is beautifully restored chairs that will last. I really appreciated how informative his shop is; from the outgoing voicemail recording with ANY info you could possibly need to the cane care instructions on the back of his business card. I would recommend Citizen Cane Chair Repair to anyone. Get a quote...it's worth it!!!!

I have four antique ladder back dining chairs whose rush seats were in sad shape and needed to be replaced. I searched for a local business and reached out to several, having no luck since it's apparently not a common repair in today's modern standards. Finally, I found Paul Thibodeau, owner/operator of Citizen Cane's in Westminster, who specializes in restoring vintage pieces to their former luster. I found his quote to be fair and his timeline reasonable, given the workmanship involved. Stepping into his shop was like going back in time, as I found myself surrounded by many other heirloom pieces in various stages of restoration--my chairs were in good company! Looking at some finished work, I knew I was in the right place. Paul's highly specialized skills and friendly nature assured me that my precious chairs were in quite capable and caring hands. They were finished a week before the estimated date, and Paul sent me a before/after picture. I was stunned at how beautiful my chairs turned out! Seeing them in person, I was in awe at the quality of the craftsmanship and amazed how rejuvenated they looked. My chairs now have new life and turned out better than I had even imagined! Paul also gave me care information for the new materials, which will be very helpful in preserving the integrity of his work. I am so grateful for Paul's expertise and highly recommend this business for anyone's heirloom treasures.

    Upholstered chair

We have 20-year-old dining chairs that originally were upholstered but I'd always wanted to have them redone in the traditional French-country rush-woven style. Paul gave us a quote that was reasonable considering the amount of work required. The final results are lovely! He completed the job on time and for the amount he quoted. He gave us options for pick-up: within the next two days or in two weeks when he was back in the shop near our home. We knew this would be the system so we did not have a problem working within his parameters. The workmanship is beautiful- which is what you get from a local, independently owned business of craftsman who work by hand. I highly recommend this shop. I've included a before and after photo of one of the 8 chairs.

Top photo shows restoration, bottom photo shows old seats. Paul also restored the teak wood.

What a great experience dealing with a craftsman like Paul who knows his business. We took our 46 year old Danish chairs to have new cording done on the seats and were also delighted to learn that Paul could also finish the teak wood for us. They look like new--maybe even better than new. It was one of our gifts to ourselves for our 50 Wedding Anniversary. I don't know how I would have ever even found Citizen Cane if it weren't for the Internet. We live in Simi Valley, CA (about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive) and can't imagine we would have found an ad in the Yellow Pages even if they still existed. It was so wonderful to deal with someone with an aesthetic sensibility. We have only the highest praise for Paul.

MCM chair with new cane back.

We had a mid century sofa and chair set needing a full refurb, including new cane backs. Asked around for recommendations at antique dealers and collector friends and got no where. So glad we found Citizen Cane on Yelp. They did a beautiful job at a good price. Truly a craftsman's handiwork. The original cane backs were completely gone but Paul researched the original 1950's furniture details and pulled off what I consider a challenging, complicated weave for us. Just like the original. Highly recommend.

Now I have to find a different company to help and this company stole money from me. I will NEVER use them again nor do I recommend them. This company's communication came out to repair a lift recliner chair. The technician, a very nice man, reported that the problem was a wire under the chair. He claimed to have repaired the wire and fixed the chair. I paid him $125. The next morning, when the chair was used again, it once again failed to decline after lifting. I called the company back and reported the chair was not fixed. They got back to me two days later. Then they requested more pictures of the chair in order to schedule a technician to return. I sent them immediately via email. I also told them via email, voicemail & text that it was the Control Box under the chair and to have the technician bring a control box on his vehicle. The company never acknowledged this information. And the technician did NOT have a control box with him when he showed up a week later. Once there, he reported it was indeed the control box and he now had to order the part which could take up to two weeks to receive and 2-4 weeks to come back and install it. AND he wanted to charge me an additional $185 for the part. Their rate for a diagnostic is supposed to be $50. I paid $125 already. And 2-4 weeks? This chair is my mom's only chair and it still doesn't work. Wtf did I pay for? So...instead of fixing the chair, I decided not to. Why sink over $300 into an old chair when a new chair is less than $500? That makes no sense. This company's customer service is non-existent. They don't answer their phone and everything is robotic about the experience. While the technician was nice enough, he did not do the job correctly and preferred to argue when I called him out on it. I maintain that I will not use them again.
