This is our 4th project with Steve. We were sold on him with our first project. It was a 15' entertainment center that turned out better than we had ever hoped for. We were so pleased with the entertainment center that we had him build a 9' buffet with 4 floating shelves. Again, we couldn't be happier. The third project was on a smaller scale. It was a shiplap wall with a 10' shelf. Although a smaller project he tackled it in the same way he does every job - with precision to detail on every aspect. Our last project was a 10' wall with lower cabinets as well as 2' upper cabinets on the left and right leaving area in the middle to accommodate a large tv. This was our SECOND project with Steve and we are even happier this time, if that's possible! This project - different house - was an even more challenging bookcase than the first one, and Steve did an exemplary job. With this guy, his attention to detail and quality of workmanship are top notch. He had to figure out how to how to make the six tall shelf sections (12-1/2' high sloping down to 8') follow an unevenly sloping ceiling while dealing with a wall surface (13-1/2' long) that was not necessarily flat or square. But he did it, and from the pictures you can see that he did it with beauty and style! If you have an easy or difficult job, Steve will make sure it's done well and done right. Was looking for a custom cabinet carpenter with a style I liked, and with a style I can adjust to our home. We didn't fit the traditional/classic style Steve normally does. We asked him to lean more mid century modern/modern and reduce the decorative styling he normally does. This is what he came up with. I had a pretty challenging project and Steve went above and beyond my expectations. He was really great to work with, is a great communicator, and is trustworthy. He really listened to my input and with his knowledge and expertise made my beautiful entertainment center truly custom. I will include before and after pictures but just to give a little background info... I did not like the current wall and cabinets in the house I had just bought. The space for the TV was very small and all the way to the side. I have a see-through fireplace and I had a fireplace contractor convert it to a single sided fireplace and closed off this side and remove the old cabinets. This left me with a very awkward wall and a window on the right that really constrained the possible cabinet designs. I spent hours coming up with ideas even before I called Steve. After a very detailed and productive consult, we had a plan in place. Steve was pretty busy at the time so after the initial consultation, it took a couple months before he could even start on my project. The wait was worth it though. Once he started it took about 3 weeks to make the cabinets and a few days to install them. I would recommend Steve to anyone. I found Steve through his excellent ratings on Yelp, and asked him to build a custom wall unit with bench seats for our upstairs loft area, and two bookshelves for the alcoves under the stairs. From start to finish, Steve and his daughter Sarah was friendly, professional, and so detailed with their work! The unit turned out exactly as we wanted, and as the other reviewers mentioned, he was always so good about communication regarding the stages of his work. He only takes one job at a time, so you can be sure to get his full attention. During install, he was so good about letting us know when he's there, and also when he locks up and leaves. He leaves the work area SO clean, you wouldn't believe he's been sanding and cutting wood! Steve is incredibly hard working and pays attention to every detail, my husband and I are pretty easy going so we left him to it, and he was able to design and build something beautiful, functional and perfect for our space. He recommended a painter, Ivan Balvenada, to us and Ivan was also very detailed in his process, and the painted units turned out beautifully. The whole process from building, install and painting is not fast- however you get what you pay for, and it's worth the wait and patience. I already posted on how amazing Steve's cabinetry work was...but I felt the need to also comment on the quality of the paint that Ivan Balvaneda sprayed onto my furniture/cabinets. I've had a quite a few built-ins done over the years and have always had folks come out and paint. NEVER in my life have a seen such attention to detail and pride of workmanship!! The paint is like glass smooth and I will ALWAYS use Ivan going forward. It was a little bit more expensive than I'm used to but after seeing the multi-step process which eventually ended up in perfection, I totally get it.
