I drove an extra 15 minutes to pick up barbecue tonight from City Barbeque from the drive through. The recorded message stated that they were closed even though it was over an hour before closing. I went inside to place an order and mentioned that the drive through stated that they were closed. All she said was that happens sometimes. As I was placing my order I noticed that a guy who was preparing food was eating a sandwich in the food prep area . He didn't was his hands after eating the sandwich. I mentioned this to the girl at the register with no response from her. I left without completing my order. This was my worst experience at a City Barbeque. Management seems to be lacking. The cleanliness and organization seems to be Lowe than other City Barbeques I have been to. read more

We went for dinner tonight. 6:00. Only two people I dining room. Once we perused the menu, we went to order It was going to be 15 minutes for sausage. I couldn't do the two meats I wanted for a sampler. I ended up doing 1/4 chicken white. Baked beans and hush puppies. Why I got baked was beyond me, as my wife had with her meal. She had brisket and pulled pork. Brisket was so lean, it was really dry. The pulled pork was ok, but not even close to being warm. The beans are way over sauced and really sweet. The chicken was ok. The skin wasn't as edible as I would have hoped. Overall, it was fairly expensive for what we actually ate. The crew, while nice seemed in disarray. To go orders seemed to have been an issue. Since there was not many people in the dining room, it was easy to notice. A young couple ordered shortly after us and it took at least 1/2 to get their food. Open for about 3 weeks when I visited. Ordered the Judges Sampler, which included brisket, pulled pork, chicken and ribs. The half-rack of ribs in our sampler were unacceptable and I had to take them back to the counter. They were dried out, with no meat. The manager did replace, but with brisket, as they were out of ribs. Smoke flavor across all meats was lacking. Maybe I'm spoiled because I do a lot of my owner bbq at home. Nonetheless, I was hoping for more smoke. Green bean side was very tasty. Mac and cheese was good. You get quite a bit of cornbread with this sampler. We have tried to get food from here twice. The first time we ordered in person. After waiting for half an hour, they tell us that they are out of ribs that we ordered. The rest of the food was good, but you don't get much. Second time:Ordered on the app and paid. Arrived to pick up and we're then told they were out of the three different meats that we ordered. My husband and I went to the drive thru at 7:50 today(May 28) we waited and waited, finally get up there and the girl said she would be right with us. We still waited for a period of time. At some point minutes later Someone gets on the speaker and says we are closed now. I really wanted to like this place! It's new, they have a drive-thru, very convenient and fast service. That's all good. About the food. I wasn't impressed the first time and it was new so we tried again. But the barbecue just isn't good! The first time we had the meat sampler, it was average. The pulled pork is not pulled apart it's big chunks. The brisket was a bit dry, sausage is dry as well, and the ribs are tough but I like the smoke flavor. Just needs some more time smokin! The macaroni and cheese has no taste at all. None. We tried every side dish. They were all mediocre. Not a lot of flavor. The best thing about this place are the hush puppies. Tonight we also tried the banana pudding and it was good. All in all the ribs are so dry and tough You have to pull them off the bone and can hardly do so. Was excited to see this place in Avon close to my shop. I was disappointed in my meal I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries and green beans. The pulled pork sandwich landed in the garbage after 1 bite it was full of fat and the meat was mushy. The fries where not cooked all the way thru and the cup was half full. Very excited to have a new BBQ place in town; we've been longing for some smoked meats since moving out of Kansas City. The meats were phenomenal. We ordered the judges sampler so had a bit of most to try. Would definitely recommend the ribs, pulled pork and chicken. Sadly, I think there's too much bark on the brisket, not much meat to taste. We're very happy to see that the meats are not served with sauce, it's add your own. Frankly, I'd suggest stopping by McConnell meats accords the way and bringing some BBQ sauce in to add. City BBQ's sauce wasn't the best. Sadly, we had to take two stars away because of the sides. The beans and coleslaw were not it. Even the hush puppies were a bit of a let down. Perhaps the green beans and Mac and cheese were the way to go, but a good BBQ spot must have good beans. Not the case here. It was a busy night, service was responsive when asked. The self serve sauce station needed to be serviced, no soap in men's room, no sauce lids. Plenty of sweet tea and lemonade. Very friendly bussers. Table space was at high demand. Price was $45 for the judges sampler (feeds 2-3), side of hush puppies and two drinks. I think next time we'll just order the meats to go. I went there this past Friday for lunch. I got the pulled pork and potato salad. Both items weee excellent! I like that you get to choose which bbq sauce you want to put on your meat. It was very busy tonight and we wanted to eat there but there were no tables. We ordered two sandwiches and fries to go. I got the Lolo and my daughter got the pulled pork. We both loved them. The ambiance is good but they need more tables there. They did not get a liquor license yet but eventually they'll offer beer. We had the sweet tea and lemonade. Very good too. I tried this place for the first time. The pulled pork was amazing ! The baked beans were loaded with brisket. The corn bread was flavorful and fresh. The place had ample seating and there was plenty of parking. I will be a regular customer from now on. They also have a rib special on Tuesdays $1.79 per bone. It bugs me when employees are standing around yakking at in the pick up zone and tables need cleaning and sauces are low. But that's just the manager in me. Lets start with the OK. Tuesday is $1.79/bone rib night. They were tasty, skimpy on meat, there was one extra tossed in due to one being really skimpy. People in front of me commented they were running out of items but had all of mine. Brisket was very dry. Sounds weird but not cooked long enough, wrapped to keep moisture and all those good fats inside, prior to sitting out on cutting block? Sausage was not impressed. Tea marked unsweet was sweet. Nice variety of sauces to dip in. Banana pudding good. Part of this comes from someone who lived in TX for 6 years. One compliment given was by boyfriend telling me mine is better. I'm really not pleased with city barbecue yet. They're new in my city Avon and I think they need some time to get it together. I tried to order takeout on Saturday night and couldn't get a pick up time because I guess they were too busy. So then I made an order Saturday evening for Sunday pick up at 1:15p curbside. We arrived at 1:05p and we sat in the car u til until 1:25p. No one came out to the car even after we notified them via the app that we were there. So my husband went in and our bags were on a rack, but no one was going to bring them to us. We get home and found out that the dessert we ordered wasn't in our bag. So I called customer service and after giving them all the information, they said that they will replace what we didn't get. I said great i will be there in about 15 minutes. Five minutes later we got a call from the restaurant and were told that the dessert wasn't in the bag because they didn't have the ingredients to make it. I said well OK but no one told us that when we picked it up and you charged me for it. So she says well you got charged for it because you paid online. OK, is that a bad thing? Then she told me that I can come in anytime and tell them that I didn't get it on this day and they'll give it to me later. I asked her should I ask for you? She said no you can't ask for me because I won't be here - I'll be opening up another location. But the manager will help you, or I could come in at a less busier time than the lunch hour that I ordered and they should have it then. So now I'm told I can't get the dessert that I ordered because I ordered my lunch at a busy time. This is a new business in our town. They're trying to get it together , but it's not together yet.
