Both dishes were spiced perfectly and not overly sweetened. I'm looking forward to exploring their menu There is no City Corner 1...it's closed. 4.5 stars for this hidden gem. My shrimp kapow was delicious. A good amount of spice although I could have handled more. Food was ready fast. I knocked off half a star because this is a place where I would only do takeout. The restaurant is small, dark and looks old and not super clean. Health code rating was fine but this is really a little hole in the wall/ takeout only kind of place. I hope they do well because this is delicious Thai food. Looks like a dive but very cute and clean inside. Friendly staff. I've never been to Thailand but I think it's authentic. Second time here. I recommend the veggie egg rolls - probably best I've had the dumplings and wonton soup. Got the pad me to go for lunch tomorrow. I'll report back. read more

I had heard really good things about this place. When we pulled up out front, I was very skeptical. So glad we went in and ordered. Had some of the best spring rolls ever and the potstickers were also incredible. Soup was also delicious. What an amazing place. Great service, fresh and delicious food. Stopped here for dinner while driving towards Virginia. The small town was a little bit of surprise which we weren't prepared for. Building were run down and we weren't used to the rural environment yet. We were skeptical about the restaurant but went ahead any. The restaurant had a bunch of spacious booths and some little tables in the middle. There were lot of decorations and artifacts from Thailand. I have to admit the place was well maintained and clean compared to other Thai restaurants who place similar artifacts but never bother to clean them and it ends up all dusty. The menu was humongous with the large file and many laminated pages! I even wondered how could anyone have the patience to flip till the end and decide what they wanted. We ended up going with the usuals - Masamaan curry and some fried rice. The waiter was very polite and accommodating! The food came up after a short wait. It was not like regular restaurant food with shiny white plates and glamorous looking dishes but more like home cooked comfort food. The taste was satisfying and we felt good. Every time I pull up to City Corner 2's gravel-y parking lot, I still wonder whether I'm at the right place. The unassuming exterior looks more like a convenience store or house than a restaurant! Nevertheless, the inside feels like a quaint, comforting diner. The extensive, affordable menu (and cheap lunch specials), coupled with friendly, quick service, warrants more than 1 visit. During my most recent visit, I decided against my usual noodle dishes and picked the Green Curry with a side of egg rolls and Thai iced tea. The Green Curry was a bit oily for my taste, but overall flavorful and comforting. I adore the creamy, sweet taste of Thai iced tea, and CC2's hit the spot. It is funny how "hole in the wall" is one of those terms where something that could have drawn up negative connotations before, forms positive imagery and thought in the mind now. With positive imagery being associated with the term now, City Corner 2 is, for me, the pinnacle of a "hole in the wall." This restaurant is definitely a place that if you blink you will miss it while driving on Plantation Road. By far, it is the best Thai cuisine you can get in Roanoke, VA, and trust me, there are some pretty good Thai restaurants in the area. My wife and I particularly love the Massaman Curry. If you love peanuts and Thai curries in general, this is the dish for you. They will make it as spicy as you like and they have a spice rack that you can use to add various spicy condiments for more flavor and heat. Their duck dishes are fantastic too. I personally enjoy the Duck Stew Soup. They always have numerous options including a Dim Sum menu featuring Chicken Feet. To top everything off, the staff is very easy going and friendly. Ordered the green curry -- not sure if they ran out of ingredients but I had to fish for vegetables in the bowl-- very few tiny pieces of bell pepper, a small amount of bamboo shoots, and 4 small pieces of chicken. Good spicy level, but lacked the typical basil flavor-- in fact, there was no basil in the curry at all (though I saw it pictured in other reviews here.) The place seems family owned and everyone was very friendly. They were great hosts. Our server even got my boyfriend a cup of warm water with lemon for his cough. I thought the interiors was nicely decorated too. Seemed nice and Cosy. The food was okay. I didn't like it Coz it wasn't hot or spicy and seemed a little bland. However that might just have been our choice of stuff off the menu. We ordered angel wings, a pork fried rice and the vermicelli noodle dish. Great portion sizes! We couldn't finish more than half. would have loved the place had the food been a little more spicy. But it was a nice experience overall. Hidden gem. Food was flavorful and spicy per my request. Had Che Che chicken and asked to add broccoli. Dish was delicious but no broccoli, few things I preferred the dish without, curry leaves,ginger slices and bamboo. Bamboo I don't really mind when they aren't so hard. Other than that service was fast and friendly. Even offered me more rice, I'm arab and love rice, but their portion was plenty for me. Even offered to refill my thai iced so I can take it to go! It's the small things that matter! Lost a star for forgetting the broccoli, but other than that, will definitely return and highly recommend to give this place a try! read more

The food was quite good however, I was shocked to find out that their prices nearly doubled. I was around the area and found this place on Yelp and was excited to get some Thai food at a good price. My friend and I ordered roast duck over rice, egg rolls, and red curry. We expected the bill to come out around $22, but to our surprise it was $36. Their mixing jasmine and white rice to save money (just charge me... jeez), the portion size has shrank considerably and the ingredients are really subpar. I ordered egg roll, pad see ew, and pineapple fried rice. Plenty of food for two!!! The egg rolls were very tasty, pork inside was flavorful, and the dipping sauce was a perfect compliment. The pad see ew was delicious!!! Full of flavor and the veggies were perfect!!! The pineapple fried rice was also flavorful!!! Moist, but not too moist. All in all a really good meal. I recently discovered City Corner 2 when I had a craving for Thai take-out. Ordering over the phone was quick and easy, and my food was ready within 15 minutes after placing my order. The egg rolls with sweet Thai chili sauce were delicious. My other favorite from the order was the mango sticky rice- with its sweet coconut flavor it made for a really tasty dessert. I liked the pad Thai but I wasn't blown away- it had a good flavor but I wish it had a bit more sauce and more shrimp. The cashew chicken I wish came in a bigger portion, however I really enjoyed its sweet spicy sauce and assorted veggies. I am excited to try out more menu items next time! read more

This is the by far the best Thai in Roanoke. We love the Beef Ka Pow. The coconut soups are fabulous. Papaya salad, yum. Drunken noodles, double yum. Chicken satay is really good too. I have never had anything bad here, and they actually make your food spicy. I get rather annoyed when I order spicy food elsewhere and I get bland to medium spiced food. Thai tea is great and the desserts that the chef whips up are always tasty (sometimes interesting, but still tasty). :) I love the family that runs this place, they are very nice and remember what you like. First I was really excited about going to this restaurant. However my experience was not pleasant. As you can see in the photos I ordered the chicken satay this is the smallest satay I have ever seen somehow they managed to cook the flavor out of it completely. Followed by what they're calling peanut sauce the next picture it looks like gelatin beef and taste worse than it smells. I ordered the duck red curry it was OK the deck was a little chewy and the curry was missing the essence of flavor. I ordered what they call non-fried spring rolls which are actually called fresh rolls they left the desire is basically iceberg lettuce two little pieces of shrimp and limited carrots. I would give four out of five stars to their what they call fried egg rolls which are actually Thai spring rolls they were actually really good. The Thai tea I would give a four out of five stars very authentic very tasty. But the rest I wasted $40 and I'm still hungry I will not be going back read more
