Myself, wife and daughter were avid fans of City Corner for years, but not anymore. The last three visit's were really bad. We use to visit at least once a week. The last time my wife ordered a meal with shrimp and it was not cooked at all. Lost her appetite. My drunken noodles were stuck together and lacked flavor. Service has dropped as well. It seems that since the old fellow who once ran it left, things have slowly gone down in quality. The lady who cooks is really nice and always greets with a smile. The young man taking orders, not so much. The overall big drop in quality of food and service have driven us away. I really hate that I have lost one of my favorite restaurants. read more

I thought it was just ok. A nice surprise to find a Thai restaurant in a seemingly residential neighborhood in Roanoke, but nothing I was crazy about. Coconut lettuce wraps were a nice light starter, wasn't sure about the chipped lime (thick rind and pulp) included. Massaman curry just tasted really peanuty. Crispy Shrimp balls were actually chicken with pieces of shrimp?!? Says nothing about chicken on the menu. My associate had the baked fish and said it was fantastic. Favorite Thai food in town if you don't mind the unique atmosphere! When we first came here it seemed rather "hole in the wall" type place, but the quality and portions of their dishes do not disappointment! Very authentic. My husbands favorite is the combination rice dish that has a ton of seafood and is a big mixed stir fried rice type dish. I love getting the pad Thai or a unique Thai soup with veggies. read more

The same people who opened up City Corner downtown, which I think is still the best Thai in Roanoke have opened up this place. It's a hole in the wall location on Plantation road...and I wouldn't have it any other way. They have all the same dishes that they have downtown. Can't go wrong with the angel wings appetizer. I usually like the papaya salad which is shredded young papaya prepared with a citrus fish sauce. My go to is either the drunken noodles or a noodle soup. The only downside is that they have one person cooking everything, so if the place is packed, the service can get really slow. And I've struggled with whether I should share this or not, but I've been told that this place will be doing dim sum. I haven't tried it yet, but if I find you people preventing me from getting some dim sum, I'm putting parking boots on all your cars in the parking lot. read more

I so very want to give this place five stars. I have eaten there many times and the food is some of the best Thai I've ever had. Fresh and authentic, just ask the owner for a recommendation when you go - I thought I knew the various options of Thai before I went there, but the owner has suggested several things that are now my favorite. The Pad ka Paow with a fried egg would be my final meal choice if I was going to be executed for a crime I probably didn't commit. His wife is the chef and does an AMAZING job. The big problem with going here is the service. It's not that the servers (usually the owner or his stepson) aren't nice - they are extremely nice. The problem is their ability to time their food. If you order a soup, it may take 5 min or it may take 20. If there is somebody with you, they may get their soup and then another 10 min passes before your soup is delivered. The entrée may be served before. You honestly never know. This isn't a one-off situation, either. This happens almost every time we go. Also, if you go when they have more than one or two tables, it will take a very long time. So be prepared for some of the best Thai food in the area (if not THE best). But also be prepared for some wildly inconsistent service. read more

A trusted colleague (who travels all over the world for work and has eaten every type of cuisine possible) recommended this place last week for lunch. I went, and the fact that I returned a couple of days later with my family for dinner is testament to how much I loved this place! Hands down the best Thai food I have had in the Roanoke area, and right up there with anywhere else. I agree with the previous comment about the food timing being a little off (the group of 6 of us from work got our food at 5 minute intervals) but that is to be expected with a 1-2 person kitchen. The flavors and price more than made up for it. I hope a small business like this survives. Their prices are very low and this out of the way spot makes their level of activity lower than it should be. This is the best place to get Thai food in Roanoke. The papaya salad was so incredibly tasty and their signature dishes are also really good. Never judge a book by its cover! The exterior of the building makes you question the yelpers but this is as one reviewer puts it, a hidden gem. The interior looks very nice and the service was phenomenal and extremely friendly. I visited about a month ago so my recollection of exact dishes is vague. My wife had the green curry chicken and I had a spicy red curry duck dish....Both were excellent. I couldn't find anything that met my 4 yr old's picky taste buds but she really enjoyed the atmosphere.....especially the koi fish pond. A unique, authentic hole-in-the-wall, especially for Roanoke. There is nothing fancy or consistent about this place, but I think that's part of its charm. The entrees are SPICY, the decor is dingy and the service isn't always super attentive (mostly likely because they're also doing all the cooking). So far, nothing I've had has been a huge standout in the taste department but I know there is something amazing in that big menu somewhere. My standard is the Thai Salad, which includes chicken, tofu, fried egg and veggies along with a delicious sauce. On our most recent visit, my husband had the Green Curry and we split an order of the "fresh" rolls. We agreed that the rolls (and most of the appetizers) were overpriced, but the entrees are a great deal, especially since they can easily be split in two. Fried spring rolls awesome! 4 small rolls for $1.99. We tried chicken larb for the first time. It was okay... very zesty (from lime) and gritty. Prices reasonable overall. I order Chicken satay and duck red curry the chick was thin and dry and had no flavor and the duck was dry and rubbery like it was microwaved the curry had caned pineapple in it and overall it smelled off like the meat they used was old I will not go back and advice people to not try city corner2 it's a waste of money and if you want to fell sick like I did after I ate the little I did. The owner was very nice and friendly, he walked around and talked with each table, and even gave us free coconut rice with egg curd. The building and decor was pretty cheesy and tacky, and the food was ok. I've had worse Thai food for more money, so at least it wasn't outrageously priced. Today when I got my soup to go, I was told it was $11.12! I could see the container and the soup was about 2" away from the top. I live in New Jersey, and I was visiting friends in Roanoke around the Christmas holiday. I wanted to know if there was a Thai restaurant in the city, and so we looked for choices. City Corner 2 came up with excellent ratings and we went there. The food was delicious! I lived in Thailand for a year and a half, and their food is as good as you get anywhere in Thailand. Drive slowly or you'll miss it the first time by. I traveled down for another visit the week after Easter, and we returned to City Corner 2 twice. I wish I lived in Roanoke, I would be here all the time. The restaurant has the feel of a Thai restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone. The prices are very reasonable and you can request spicy or not so spicy, as you like. I am looking forward to my next visit. read more
