I've been to Thailand many times, tried hundreds of Thai restaurants in the U.S., and this one is very good and traditional. The servers and friendly, quick and responsive. Last year as I was having breakfast at One Love Coffee House in Roanoke, Virginia, I met a nice older couple who enjoy eating at different restaurants and they recommended I go and try Nakhon Thai Cuisine, a small, clean, and cozy Thai restaurant with good food and excellent service. I did go with a friend and we were very impressed. So much so that I gave it a 5 Star review. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review. So today, I invited my friend who had invited me last year to go with me to give this restaurant another try, because consistency is what gives a restaurant its success, and helps develop its good reputation. We arrived and the small, clean, and cozy restaurant was still there, under a beautiful blue sky with white clouds. Outside in the small porch it had two tables with chairs for people who preferred eating outdoors on a nice Summer day. It was a hot day so we decided to eat indoors under the comfort of the air-condition. As soon as we walked inside a young lady warmly greeted and welcomed us and took us to our table. Soon after we reviewed the already familiar menu we both ordered a glass of iced water to drink. On a hot day there is nothing like a glass of nice cold water to quench the thirst. To eat we both also ordered the Pork Pad Thai. This traditional Thai dish had rice noodles, eggs, bean sprouts, green onions, and pork, with peanut and lime on the side.we both didn't want it too spicy hot so we asked for a #2 spicyness. Not long afterwards our dishes arrived. The presentation was simple, yet clean and appetizing. Everything looked so fresh and appetizing. And tasted amazing. Our server came by to check on us with a smile to see if everything was to our satisfaction and we told her it was. Everything so far was far exceeding our highest expectation. The food was so savory and the pieces of pork were so lean and fresh. I also loved the feel of the rice noodles and the taste of the grind peanuts. Even though the dining room was small, it didn't take long for itn to get full while we were eating, and we saw other customers come in to pick up Takeout orders. A lot of the seemed like repeat customers. It seemed like this small family-owned and run restaurant was getting the right attention and had become successful mostly through word of mouth, ju DrWe were very happy to see this. For dessert we both ordered the Coconut Ice-cream with Fried Bananas. It was wonderful. Excellent service, the staff at the counter was very busy but prioritized her tasks well, was orderly, attentive and friendly. I got the chicken satay appetizer and the pad Thai with chicken to go and both were very flavorful. The portions are generous for the price. The pad Thai was delicious but it did not have much spice to it which I would have enjoyed. The dining room is small and when busy there is not a lot of room for standing or sitting to wait for your order so I'd recommend calling ahead. Overall excellent Thai food. Will return. read more

The staff is so welcoming and the food was perfect. We got the Tom kha soup, yellow curry and tried the cashew combo for first time. Highly recommend all. We had chicken larb as an appie (a couple good bites of flavor among a largely bland dish), and for entrees, Pad Thai and Dragon Noodles. This food is top notch Thai! It's very clean- a bit bright inside so not really "ambience" and they don't serve wine or beer which is a bummer. BUT the food is delish. We had the chicken spring rolls which were piping hot and yum, edamame and drunken noodles spicy with chicken. Noodles a bit on the mushy side but not complaining because the flavors were all there. I asked about the Thai ice tea having never had it and they kindly brought me out a sample! They staff is so nice and they really keep things moving. Highly recommend! read more

We happened to spot this place on the way to Lowes. So glad we did! The food was amazing!! I enjoyed the pork drunken noodles which I ordered extra spicy. My wife ordered the Pad Seeu no spice. Both dishes came out fresh and reasonably quick. The spice leveks were exactly as we had ordered, whis isnt always the case in other establishments. I'm in town for a while. In one month I have ordered 3 times from Nakhon Thai Cuisine. The food is consistently flavorful. There are no greasy aftertaste. The soups are fantastic. I've tried takeout and dining in, seems you'll get a bit more food when dining in. Regardless, it's worth the effort to at least give them a try and post your own opinions. As far as I'm concerned, I'll be a regular until I find a reason not to be. The service is great and friendly, the ambience is relatively relaxed and definitely not pressured or bothered while dining. I HIGHLY recommend. The restaurant is small with a very casual ambiance. The service was fast and friendly. The menu has everything you could want at a Thai restaurant, including chive dumplings which I haven't seen at many other places. I would have preferred my food a little spicier (I got medium and would definitely describe it as mild), but it came out piping hot, and the flavors of what I tried were all really good. This is a terrific Thai restaurant! My first visit was about 3 years ago and my most recent was this week. I've had consistently excellent food and experiences across many trips, both eat in and takeout. I don't live in Roanoke but frequently make a point to stop by this restaurant when I'm in town. Sometimes I'll pick up a variety of entrees for a dinner sampler "buffet" with friends to try different menu items. This week our favorite new dish was Panang Curry with beef - a hit with all 4 of us; moderately spiced but phenomenal, rich, complex flavor, and beef (meat suggested by staff for the dish) really added to it. The basics like Pad Thai and Pad See Ew are great, and most of the other dishes I've tried have been somewhere between good and terrific. Unassuming location in a small strip mall with a gas station, but the dining room is cozy and clean, with excellent service and staff. This place is a gem! read more

After flying into RoA from Nevada we were craving our fist real meal of the day, and selected this restaurant about 18 minutes from the airport. The chive dumplings were a new to me dish, with a surprising texture: very crispy outside and soft gooey inside. Delicious, must try! I also loved my tom yum noodles (shrimp & chicken) soup, which was basically an aromatic tom yum broth with pho-like ingredients: rice noodles, bean sprouts, lime wedge. Plus shallots, ground chicken, 3 large shrimp and diced peanuts. Very comforting and hearty while remaining fresh/snappy from the aromatics. My parter's drunken noodles had a great texture and flavor. If you like spicy I'd recommend asking for a higher spice level on that dish, we just didn't have the time to bother asking for chili oil to spice it up. Everything was fresh and quickly prepared. Appeared to be a family business/family oriented. Several customers knew the polite woman running the counter personally, and she knew their children well. Absolutely the BEST MEAL we've had in a long time. The service was quick and friendly. The food was extraordinary. The chive dumplings were unusual and delicious. Loved the Thai Fried Rice. Crab Rangoon were larger than the usual and very tasty. The Tom Yum Noodles were the best of both worlds: Tom Yum soup and noodles. A great combination. The spice level of 2/10 was quite mild. I ordered 4/10 for the Tom Yum and I would call it less than medium. Next time I'll try 5 or 6 spice level. Only downside is that the place is quite small. We'll definitely be back.
