The USS Midway lite up at night

We went on the dinner cruise on a Tuesday evening. We enjoyed everything about it. I was skeptical about it being a buffet, but the buffet was absolutely wonderful. It is an expensive date for the 2 of us, more than $300 include 4 drinks, but the taxes and fee, and fuel charge was $90 alone. It was worth it. I've done these before in Portland, etc. This one was very nice. It's a one and done for us.

I went on city cruises for a brunch for an event and let me tell you the food did not disappoint. I would put it up against any other Sunday brunch in town then the bonus is you get to tour around the bay stand up on the deck, take pictures of Coronado, but I'm telling you don't sleep on the food and everyone there

Thanksgiving Brunch Cruise Highly Recommend! If you're looking for an stress-free, unique and memorable way to spend Thanksgiving, this is the place. We had family in town and I was definitely not in the mood to cook this year so we booked City Cruises and it ended up being the perfect choice. We chose the 11 AM sailing (my in-laws like to eat early) but they also offer a later afternoon option. The moment we boarded, everything felt organized, festive and relaxed. The food spread was immaculate. It was a true buffet-style feast with Thanksgiving classics plus breakfast favorites. They also offered bottomless mimosas and champagne, although our group didn't drink. We talked to a few regulars who said they come every Thanksgiving and swear this is the best option in San Diego which made us feel even better about choosing it. We upgraded our tickets (each around $85 each) to sit by a window and I highly recommend doing the same. The cruise takes you past Point Loma and through beautiful parts of the bay and having that view made the whole experience extra special. You're free to get seconds, thirds or wander around the boat to take in the scenery. Before boarding, they take a group photo, which ended up being a cute keepsake from the day. They charge for the photo but I can't recall the price. Small touches like that made the experience feel really thoughtful. The staff was genuinely kind, upbeat and accommodating. You could tell they were happy to be there, even on a holiday. One tip for future guests: Make sure to leave gratuity for your servers. It's easy to assume that tips are included but they aren't and the staff truly deserves it for how hard they work on such a busy day. This was my first City Cruises experience, but definitely not my last. After hearing from other friends who also love these cruises, we'll absolutely be back!

I took my mom and her friends on a City Cruises brunch cruise, and it was a fantastic experience. The all-you-can-drink brunch was delicious, the service was great, and the views of the San Diego Bay were beautiful. Everyone had an amazing time--highly recommend for a fun and memorable outing!

My group and I had a phenomenal experience with a private post wedding party event with this company. The dinner cruise we booked was superb all around. Excellent and friendly service, tasty food, and great ambiance. The views in the harbor at night are beautiful and it's the perfect backdrop for any occassion. We all loved this experience so much we are talking about chipping in as a family and booking these kind of events annually :)

A Fantastic Experience on City Cruises San Diego. My time aboard City Cruises San Diego was absolutely lovely the atmosphere was vibrant, and the service was exceptional. A special shout-out to Ms. Christina, whose outstanding hospitality made the experience even more memorable. If you're looking for a unique way to dine and cruise, I highly recommend it. It's perfect for celebrating with your significant other or spouse, and an incredible choice for anniversaries, engagements, and birthday celebrations. A must-try! Until next time

I joined in on a Brunch retirement for my old boss and wow what an experience. Bottomless mimosa brunch on a city cruise was so much fun. The food was very tasty and as soon as you step foot in the yacht you were welcomed with a glass of champagne. Once seated at your table there is juice ready to mix into your champagne if you choose to (pineapple, orange and cranberry available). The staff were very friendly and it was nice to go to the upper deck and enjoy the view. There is plenty of loungers and games to play so it's perfect if you have to bring kids. I highly recommend this experience, it won't disappoint:)

It was amazing. Had all you can eat buffet with the unlimited Mimosas. Everything was perfect. And the view from the boat in the middle of the bay is something you can only dream of. I wish this on everyone to give it a try. It is worth every penny. The customer service there was amazing as well. They never let my glass hit the bottom. They had our champagne and our juice always available.

We went whale watching on Valentine's Day. The whole process from ordering tickets, to checking in and getting aboard was smooth. The ticket booth staff were helpful. The photographer at the top of the landing was funny and personable. San Diego always shows up, even if the whales don't. I appreciated the Captains honesty when we boarded that, we may have to return early due to weather. We got out of the bay, and it was gorgeous!! There were some waves, and the staff was very safety minded. They reminded everyone to now bow-jump, keep at least one hand on the boat. We ordered some snacks, which was very easy with the QR code. They know their customers well. We got a pretzel and a hot cocoa, cuz it was sunny but cold. They were both ad expected very good. The narration was perfect. A mix of history and current events and tin bits about San Diego and its wildlife. We saw dolphins, sea lions and a slew of different birds, and some cool military installations. No whales this cruise, but that's ok, if you don't see a whale, you get a whale-check. The seas were a bit rough (I guess) the day we went out. Some pro tips, look at the horizon and not the water. Also later up, the wind can be fierce, use sunscreen and stay hydrated. We have a fabulous time and can't wait to sail again!!!

Our ever growing practice held a holiday dinner cruise last December for our clinicians and affiliates and it was fantabulousThe Hornblower was spacious and elegant, super friendly and attentive staff, and the buffet was outstanding (oooh and the phenomenal DJ and the bar tender) ~ can't sing enough praises about the fun and exciting experience we all enjoyed. I think they offer lunch/dinner cruises year round

Our family has been their customer since 1998. We have always enjoyed their cruises. We have taken Valentine's, Mother's Day, Sunset Cocktail, etc. Service is always exceptional and friendly. We have noticed the quality of the food has declined terribly and the vessels have not been updated since we took our first cruise with them. The interior was a bit depressing. They need to revamp their menu, especially their brunch. It is NOT restaurant quality. A little more effort needs to go into it. Presentation as well. The 2 cruises we have taken this year have been quite empty, I wonder if it has to do with the food. They also don't have alive entertainer like they used to. I do have to say the service today was above and beyond. Our server was Salvador, he made up for the stiff croissant and bagel and the dry Salmon and chicken with his friendly and attentive service. We might wait until you improve the quality of your "experience" before considering doing it again. Thank you.

This year for Valentines Day I had the joy to experience my very first themed dinner cruise. Thank you to my wonderful boyfriend and City Cruises for making this experience one to remember! Upon arriving at the dock we were promptly checked in and provided complimentary hot chocolate on this chilly San Diego night. The valentines day decorations were super adorable and set the tone for the rest of the evening. From entering the boarding gate until getting seated at our table, we were greeted with a smile by every single employee we passed. We were then offered complimentary Champagne upon entering the dining room. The cruise started at 7 PM and didn't end until 9:30-10 PM. Giving us plenty of time to eat, chat, and explore the boat and take in the beautiful night skyline of downtown San Diego. Although it was freezing it was still nice to wander. The meal itself was a 3 course meal. We each got to choose from a selection of appetizers, main course meals, and desserts. The food itself was ok. The presentation was great but it wasn't anything spectacular. I was worried if the 3 course meal would be enough to fill me up but I'm glad to say it was the perfect amount. We were pretty full halfway through our dessert. They also had an additional menu provided at the table in case you wanted to order more side dishes or drinks. I want to note that even though this was a pre-paid package the servers kindly let us know at the beginning of the service that Gratuity was not included in the package so if we would like to leave it they would greatly appreciate it. My boyfriend didn't know so we kind of wished we brought cash beforehand but thankfully we ordered drinks so he was able to add a tip on his card at the end. Overall, it such a thoughtful and cute date idea. The food isn't amazing by any means but you're really paying for the experience. I loved the little touches they added such as the rose on the table, DJ playing love songs, rose petals on the ground, and valentines day ballon decoration photo station. City Cruises seems to offer a variety of cruise packages, so whether you're celebrating a birthday, holiday, or anniversary for a loved one it'll definitely be an experience to remember.

Such an amazing, narrated tour cruise of beautiful San Diego. We booked their 'Sightseeing Cruise' and paid about $92 overall total for 2 of us (they also offer brunch & dinner cruises). We got there about 1 hr early and struggled to find parking on a busy Sunday afternoon. Once we got to the meeting spot, we noticed there was a parking lot right on Hornblower Pier (which is next to the meeting spot). We walked over to ask, and their rate was $15 (cash only) to park. As we were boarding, a souvenir picture was taken and was later available for purchase. All crew members were super friendly and attentive. You can purchase snacks and alcohol beverages at the bar, which was awesome! Plenty of restrooms and very clean. Overall, we had such an amazing experience and can't wait to go back and enjoy their dinner cruise.

With more Covid shutdown regulations are they still currently open and doing the Saturday brunch cruise?

I feel silly asking, but does the $75 for the brunch cruise include the meal? Or is that only an entry fee? Do you need to pay for your meal/drinks separately?

The 75.00 pays for your meal, coffee lemonade, ice tea, juice. Alcohol is extra as well as carbonated beverages. This cruise is so amazing and the food is exceptional. I hope you enjoy it. Bon voyage!

Has anyone been to the dinner cruise? If so, How was the dinner cruise?

I went on the dinner cruise June 19, 2020. It was our anniversary and added champagne and special sitting for window. Well due to the pandemic there was no dance music, rather dry atmosphere, our special add ons were not present upon seating. The…

Going mid-March for whale watching...do we need to buy tickets in advance? If so, how far out? Ideally I would like to check the weather before selecting a day. Is morning or afternoon better for seeing whales?

Hi, how exciting to plan ahead and look forward to Whale Watching! you don't have to buy in advance but if you're going on the weekend, it sometimes can sell out. The whales are not picky about breathing times throughout the day, we have equal…

Has anyone done the party cruise? If so how was it? How was the music?

Hi Leilyn! I went on the Sights & Sips (6-8 pm) two hour cruise around the bay. It was amazing! And if you're asking about the music, I'm 35 and enjoyed myself! This is not…

Is the one hour cruise usually smooth or choppy?

For the whale tour I would say choppy. I would say about 20% of the boat was throwing up for being sea sick. They do warn you and have lots of vomit bags which would tell me that they are use to it.

I purchased 6 tickets for the 2 hour harbor cruise through Groupon! I'm trying to make reservations online but can't find the link. Can someone send me the link?

Hello Marissa - Thank you for your inquiry. You should be able to book your reservation on our…

Where do we park our vehicle? Any specific place when doing the cruise? What are the rates?

Parking is crazy in that area. If the lot isn't full, there is parking right next to the dock for $10. It's between the horn blower and the uss midway museum. There is also a parking lot on the other side of the museum that has meter parking but…

Hi I am.just hours away form going on my first trip. They never sent me my tickets just a confirmation email. Where do I get the actual tickets? Or can I just present the email?

    Are you open Thanksgiving?

Do you have to be 21 to book and aboard?

Hi Audree - Thank you for your inquiry. Our Dinner Cruise, Brunch Cruise, Sights & Sips Cruise,…

How formal is the brunch cruise? Would a polo and nice shorts work, or would a button up and slacks be more appropriate?

Very informal. I wish folks would dress better, but you'll see everything from suits to shorts and flip flops. And to answer your question, a polo and nice shorts will be fine. Enjoy!

How much are drinks and snacks on board?

May vary from cruise to cruise. On the San Diego Harbor cruise, a Hot Dog Lunch (hot dog or corn dog, bag of chips, fountain drink) was a very reasonable $7.50 in February 2018. Alcohol is served - again, prices vary.

What is the average price for alcohol for the Rock the yacht cruise?

Hello Antonio - Thank you for your question. Alcoholic beverages on board range in price depending on the level of the brand (Standard or Premium). Bottled beer is priced between $5-$7 and mixed drinks range between $7-$9. Hope to see you on board.

What does the 2 hour cruise include?

WHAT YOU GET 1- and 2-hour narrated San Diego Harbor cruises…

How cold is it on the water? Is a jacket recommended?

I'm always cold so I travel with some sort of jacket all the time. The time of year does matter too. I will suggest for the cruises that are just along the bay (Ex Sights 'n Sips) a lighter jacket or non at all will be ok.....Now for the cruises…

Check in process was easy, just follow the email instructions, all very clear. Bring sunscreen, a hat or sunglasses. You can bring your bags and snacks. There is plenty of space under the benches for your belongings. Lots of options for seating all around the boat, both inside and out. Also 2 restrooms available. As well as a Galley with snacks and souvenirs! I didn't realize, but they also sell photo packages of the wildlife from the trip. So you can focus on documenting your group and the good time, They'll capture the animals! :) This crew was Captain Vanessa, Naturalist Ruth, Deck crew Colleen and Sara, and Galley Oscar. They were all so helpful and accommodating. I cannot tell you how warm and inviting they all were. You could definitely tell they loved their jobs. For me...So, despite Dramamine and sea sickness bands I got really nauseous; and I think my 3 year old did too but couldn't verbalize, because she passed out about 1.5 hours into the trip-so I was just kind of sitting towards the back holding my toddler mid trip. Which is about the time when the whales appeared! (Up to that point we saw different birds, pods of dolphins and sea lions.) So these whales on our trip were on the starboard side when they appeared, but I was on the port side, kinda stuck sitting with my sleeping toddler. At one point Colleen came and asked if she could help me move to see the whales, but that was easier said than done, especially not feeling well. I let her know she was sweet but we were okay. Well as the boat tracked the whales, I guess Colleen and Sara both mentioned to the captain that we were kind of stuck in the back on the Port side and the captain ended up turning the boat towards the whales so I could see them. It was the sweetest thing and I felt so seen as a mama. :) I didn't know how a whale watching trip could go above and beyond, but they did! We did a 12:30pm tour on a Monday and there seemed to be a good crowd, but they were not at full capacity, which meant moving around was an option for those that wanted to. We will be back, this was a great choice!

One of the crew members took pictures on a DSLR and sold them to us if we couldn't get good enough pics ourselves. You can buy early access to the ship to pick out a good spot, or you can buy a VIP ticket to have access to your own section of the boat right up front. The things I didn't enjoy - which, honestly, I'm not sure how the crew would handle any differently than they did. Some of the people on the boat were super rude. Lots of coughing in close quarters without covering their mouths; one group of people was so hellbent on getting the perfect pictures that they all stood in front of each section of people at least once, running side to side instead of giving everyone turns. The captain did ask that everyone take turns, but the behavior stayed the same all ride. A couple of people actually stood in front of other people who remained seated, completely blocking their views. The bad: You were supposed to get there early to check in and line up, but there is nothing to do in the area, and no seating, so prepare to stand in a line for an hour if you get there right when they say to. The photo package was really expensive for what you got. 3 hours is a long time to be on a boat not learning about things - lots of lulls in programming.

There are 7 total ships, including the Star of India, and a submarine. You can purchase your ticket…read moreat any of the main booths/boat entrances, then show your receipt to visit the others on the same day. The flexibility of a self-guided tour was great. One ship was away on a sail in the afternoon this past Saturday, but there was more than enough to explore on the various vessels during our visit. Plenty to see and experience on each of the boats. We stepped onto the swift boat where staff educated us about its machine gun. And we walked through and checked out the different sections of the USS Dolphin submarine too. The HMS Surprise was a lovely ship with plenty of references to its use in films. The Star of India was like a museum all on its own, so many areas to explore and a ton of history to learn. The Californian was pretty basic, not very different from many other ships we've visited in the past. Steam Ferry Berkeley was the largest, with displays showcasing scientific instruments, model boats, artwork, the riverboats in Vietnam, the engine room, a torpedo caught by a fisherman, and a special exhibit featuring the "histories of the black pacific". There's a gift shop on site as well. Altogether, the variety of ships at the Maritime Museum made for an interesting adventure, a bit touristy, but worth the cost if you're into history or simply like boats.

Ok so I will split this into two reviews:…read more 1: the ships and actual adventure 2: the reservation process and customer service 1: booked a trip for the Spanish replica ship adventure the San Salvador and really loved it. The ticket also got you access to the other ships to walk around which was cool. But the coolest part was that San Salvador was sailed like they would have sailed it waaay back when. We got to see real rigging masts sails steering all being done by a crew and it was a totally amazing experience and such a perfect day. Bonus: we saw dolphins and it was a perfect day. Drawback: the gentlemen speaking throughout didn't talk into his mic often so missed a lot but oh well - who's really going for history?! such a good time!!. 2. I had a good with my tickets and called and tried to talk to folks in person and could never get someone. The tickets were cancelled but not refunded which was a bummer and staff in the kiosk even said they phone lines were messed up. A bummer. :(
