A friend of mine had a yacht party on a cool summer evening and it was a blast. We met at H&M landing and headed to our yacht. The staff were so attentive and carried our bags up to the upper deck where we spent the evening enjoying lots of food and some margaritas, The boat moored out in front of the Rady Shell and we enjoyed seeing the Sugarhill Gang and Kool and the Gang from the sea. Good service from the landing, easy check in and since my annual Mexican fishing license had expired the H&M tackle shop was able to renew my annual Mexican fishing license on the spot. Trip price was great, $705 including meals for a 2 day trip. Even better was that I had some gift certificates that H&M offers each year before the holidays that give you $100 value for $80. Why the loss in of a star? My five and four standard is getting tougher to make. When managers do things that piss me off, they are going to be held accountable. For example my rod tip eyelet came off after I boarded a multi day trip on the Relentless. This was going to be my main rod for the trip. I took it up to the tackle shop and pleaded for help. It was 15 minutes before closing. This young punk said he was the manager and told me they would not do it. The incredible Danny Wade fixed it for me anyway. Down on the boat some guy came running down, all in a panic, saying the manager was demanding $7.83 for the repair. I gave him $50 and told him to give the change to Danny Wade. I killed it that trip with that setup. When I got back in, I asked Danny if he got the change money. He did not. Grrr! read more

First time to H&M landing, and wasn't sure how complicated the procedure would be, but everything was very easy. We were there for a day and a half fishing trip & checked in at the windows with no problem and then went inside to rent poles and reels for the trip. They had plenty to choose from and you don't need to make a reservation because I don't think they'll ever run out. The whole area is well organized and did not seem at all chaotic. Everyone was very helpful and we really enjoyed our fishing trip out of H&M landing on the Horizon. Glad to say I came home with an 84 pound bluefin tuna! read more

Today my family went on the grande 3/4 day out of H&M landing.They caught four yellowtail. At the end of the day after tipping the deck hands. My husband noticed they only gave them three yellowtail out of 4. bag #34, the biggest fish was missing. When my husband questioned the deckhand who my husband handed the fish too, after being caught. He said, someone must've taken your fish. Which was a very familiar incident , May 19 my husband went on the grande out of H&M Landing. when a fellow fisherman caught many yellowtail offered one to him, whom that day was unlucky. When my husband went to get the yellowtail at end of trip, a deck hand said, he didn't give you that fish. And my husband, let it go that day . My husband and my family has gone fishing for over 20 years and have never had this happen before. We have gone out of Seaforth, H&M Landing., Cabo, Newport, Kona, and others, have never had anything like this has never happened. We spent over $1000 in the 3 weeks on the grande out of H&M Landing.. while the boat itself was fine. The crews handing of the fish count was very dishonest Not sure if this is one deckhand who is dishonest or if this is a thing on the grande. This is our experience. I hope that this helps so this doesn't happen to any other fisherman. read more

My son has booked three trips within the last month and spent almost $800 on those trips. I will list the positives first. The deckshand - all of them were great. Hands down the best part of all the trips. They were attentive and helpful. The food was good. Now for the negatives: The first trip was to be an overnighter on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, which was subsequently canceled due to "bad weather-high winds". So he booked on a full day for the next day, Friday October 3rd, 2025. When he arrived at the dock on Friday he was told by several other anglers that it is common for the company to cancel trips though the weather is fine. That should have been our first warning not to use this business. On that trip due to poor captaining of the boat there were only six fish caught. There was no management of people casting over others. We thought it would be a one-time problem so he booked a 1.5 day trip this past weekend on the Odyssey, October 11, 2025. On that 1.5 day, again to the gross incompetence of the captaining of the boat again only six fish were caught. And again anglers were allowed to cast over people the entire time. Below are the fish counts for H and M Landing's for this past weekend. Other charters like Seaforth Sportfishing's, Point Loma's and Fisherman's Landing's for overnights all were posted and had ample fish counts. I found it highly suspicious H and M did not post the Odyssey's 1.5 day trip's fish count with 29 anglers on board in their fish count log at all.. H and M -10/13/2025 Ocean Odyssey with 29 anglers 1.5 Day NO REPORT Poseidon with 25 anglers 1.5 Day NO REPORT Relentless with 19 anglers 1.5 Day NO REPORT But somehow their Vendetta (2 Overnight with 11 anglers 18 Bluefin Tuna, 3 Yellowfin Tuna, 3 Yellowtail) and Sea Adventure (1.5 Day with 17 anglers 10 Yellowtail, 10 Bluefin Tuna, 3 Dorado, 2 Yellowfin Tuna, 1 Skipjack Tuna) posted their counts. The Pacific Queen returned this morning with 76 Bluefin Tuna, 4 Yellowfin Tuna, 2 Dorado, and 3 Yellowtail for 24 anglers on their 3 day trip. The Pacific Dawn - LIMITS (60 fish up to 135 lbs) of Bluefin Tuna for their 2.5 day trip with 15 anglers aboard. Both times we have used their services there has been a total of 6 fish caught on each boat. Both times we have reached out to this company regarding our poor experiences and NO ONE has responded back. This review is for the 1/2 day Premier boat Saturday tour (1-6PM). November. The recommended time to arrive for the tour is 12PM. However, we were running late and didn't get there till 12:30 or so. Thankfully we were able to still get checked in, get our rental rods, grab some snacks and even had a chance to chill before boarding the boat. Note* The parking lot for this was CROWDED so do try to get here as early as you can. The lot is $12 for a full day parking but we actually parked a few blocks down in the neighborhoods for free. That's also because the lot was full when we arrived so we had no choice. The check in process was smooth and easy. The rods were also really good quality and clean. When we boarded, everyone checks in for the "Jackpot". I believe whoever gets the biggest fish at the end of the trip wins a prize. The boat was spacious and had 2 clean bathrooms, a top deck with some seating. There was also a lower part with additional tables and the food service area. They ONLY take cash so make sure you take money out of the ATM. The food options and prices were great. We ordered a cheeseburger, a bag of chips as well as a beer. The cheeseburger was amazing. I wouldn't have thought someone could cook up a burger like that on a boat but they certainly did. I highly recommend trying their food. They also had breakfast items too. I kind of wish we brought our own food (all we brought was water) but I'm glad they even had food on deck because we were definitely hungry. If you're looking to save some money though I highly recommend bringing a cooler with some food, drinks and snacks to hold you over especially if you're with a large group of people. The ride out was beautiful. Also as we rode out there, they rigged everyone's rods so it was ready to go. We stopped somewhere around the border line. They did a quick lesson on how to cast the rod and also about the fish you could catch. After that everyone went in. The spot we went to was pretty much a guaranteed catch. As soon as I dropped my line in I immediately felt bites. I believe I caught about 8 fish that day. The crew was fantastic. I wish I got their names but they were highly skilled in what they do. If you need anything at all they can handle it. They were also extremely kind. On the way back it was FREEZING. I'm glad I brought an extra jacket but definitely recommend packing a thick coat. Especially if you're doing this tour in the winter. As we rode back they also filet the fish you caught if requested and you just pay a few bucks per fish and get to take it home afterwards. Overall this tour was super fun and great for fishers of all skill levels! I love how freeing this tour was. It seems like if you want to bring your own rods, food, it felt so customizable. This is also a perfect tour to do with friends and family. I highly recommend this tour and can't wait to go again! read more

This review is for the Ranger 85 as it is my go-to tuna fishing boat for the last couple of years. I LOVE this boat! The captain and crew are always willing to help with anything you need and I've seen people of all levels and ages enjoy their time here. I've gone with different guys driving the boat and it has been an awesome experience every time. Fishing: Of course you can never control where the fish will go and what they'll do, but I've limited out on both trips I've taken with some nice-sized tuna! We've looked for dorado and cows during the extra time after hitting limits, but those were a little tougher to come by. The bait was always lively and the deckhands will help rig you up for any type of fishing you might encounter. Onboard: Plenty of bunk beds and there is AC to keep you cool --especially in the hotter summer months. Three square delicious meals a day given in huge portions -- plus there are plenty of snacks and ice-cold drinks to enjoy as well! There's a spacious galley by the kitchen and another one downstairs to sit and eat, chat, and watch some TV. If you want to trek out for a couple of days to catch some bluefin and maybe even yellowtail or dorado, I highly recommend booking a trip on the Ranger 85 out of H&M Landing. Best fishing trip of my life!! I had hands down the best sportfishing trip of my life aboard the Grande this week. The crew took such good care of us. Captains Tyler and Maher put us on the fish! Chef Ash made the best meal I've ever eaten at sea - the tri tip was spectacular!! Deckhands Max, Max, and Silas were on their A game from saving tangled fish to serving dinner to tying up all my fishing poles to ensure I had the best chance at catching. Speaking of catching: I managed to bag my two day limit of bluefin tuna including my personal best! I can't recommend Grande sportfishing enough. 100/100 read more

This review is about a particular boat charter out of H&M. We went all the way out to SD ca from Az to get a good experience on the Producer (boat 1/2 day). Did some fishing with H&M on the Premier on 12/21/25 and 12/22/25 and had a great time that I had to come back a second day. Shared stories w co workers here in Az so they wanted the same experience so we all agreed on going. And of course I made sure bite was still on with the bonito going off. Make a long story short this boat (producer) was "explaining to us that the bonito had gone up north and it would be to far to chase them down so he went to a spot about a hour or so away to bottom fish because he says the bonito has gone. BS!! I have been fishing my whole life and been on boats plenty even have my own. What I don't understand is that people (us customers pay good $$ to have a good time) not waste time to go somewhere where the fish aren't biting (bites were here and there bunch of tiny fish) only one person caught something worth while. My explanation for why this boat did this is because they were too lazy and penny pinching the budget. I can honestly say only one deckhand seem to be doing his job. Cook sucked playing with his phone was more important than tending to his customers. The bait wells were always empty we would have to wait for a deckhand to scoop from main tank to fill bait wells. Squid bait was nowhere to be found. Trying to save bait for pm time. And if we were on bonito they would have to actually work cause the blood and filleting these fish, the line tangles. I get it it's a lot of work but that's what your job is. I can honestly say that a lot of people were disappointed. Never been on a boat so quiet because of disappointment. I seen birds steal people's fish while they fillet because there too lazy to make sure that don't happen like maybe burlap sacks instead of laying these lil fish on the deck like tuna . They can't even pay attention correctly people got there fish filleted when they said they wanted there fish whole. Very bad experience on this boat. I seriously think they were not trying to do the work probably cause too hung over or just plain lazy. But they sure want to be tipped they made sure they said that plenty of times how hard they worked and such ... ya right with this review I'll post a pic of another boats fish count also a 1/2 day boat same price and almost the same amount of people. Just a better boat and crew. I highly suggest that you go to fisherman's or Seaforth unless the premier is doing their 1/2 day trips. This boat the producer does not produce. Went out on the Producer overnight trip out of San Diego. Boy did it "Produce" lol. We woke up at Clemente Island at about 5:30am. Once we anchored it was wide open yellowtail for about 2 hours. The boat ended with about 90 yellowtail! I ended with 4. Tom the lead deck hand was a legend. He was able to help anyone that was having trouble with tackle or getting their first bite. I forget the young kids name who was the pinhead. Had a great attitude and worked hard. Had some good conversations with him. Food/kitchen was awesome. Amazing breakfast burritos and Philly cheesesteak for lunch. Plenty of beer! Overall I'd definitely recommend. read more

Been on the Floating Lab field trip put on by H&M twice in the last three years with both of my daughter's classes and can vouch that the information presented to the kids is consistent. Before coming aboard, kids are polled about their knowledge of the ocean. Immediately upon boarding, we go over safety measures and procedures like how to put on a life vest and what to do if someone falls overboard. Kids learn get plenty of hands-on experience during the excursion: - Take Measurements: water temperature, depth, etc. - Gather samples to analyze microorganisms under a microscope on board. - Learn to cast a net and work together to reel it in - touch live sea creatures The kids get the satisfaction of seeing all of the different ocean creatures collected in the net they helped bring in and get to touch many of them in dedicated touch tanks aboard the vessel before they are returned to the ocean. It's a fun experience for kids to board a boat and get to use scientific equipment. Happy to play chaperone and spend time with my kids and their classmates. read more

She worked hard to get us the boat and day we needed and even helped us extend the trip last minute to reach the further tuna grounds. First and probably last time going out of HM landing. Boat did not catch anything. We were targeting tuna/yellowtail/dorado. Did an overnight trip on the old glory and no one got anything. Typically, a landing will give you a trip to make up for it or a voucher for a discount on the next. Not HM landing. I contacted them about the whole thing and never got a response. $350 down the drain. For the record, I have gone fishing out of nearly every single landing in Southern California. Every single time a person did not catch any fish or the boat did not catch any fish, the landing would give out vouchers. Sad to say HM does not follow that protocol. Lastly, food prices across all boats are extremely overpriced. Pack your own food. I have had better luck, experience and times with fisherman's landing. read more

Had a reservation we made online. Got there at noon for our 1 pm departure. Was told the boat may not go because of low turnout. About 15 min to 1, we were told it had been canceled and we could either get a refund or go to the neighboring spot. And they would transfer everything over. We had already paid for licensing, etc. Got to the new place and had to pay the licensing and rod rental again! Hopefully we'll get the refund from this place. Just came off the Ranger 85 from H&M Landing on a 1.5 day trip. A complete joke . The two younger deckhands know what they're doing the older guy can barely tie a knot. Never had our rods in the water for more than 5 minutes at a time before we moved on. I would completely recommend booking a different boat. The the fish count was a joke five total bluefin versus seven other boats in the fleet that were producing limits. If I could give a negative star I would. read more

We boarded the Old Glory and were met with a very helpful and friendly deck crew. The deck crew were amazing at helping with everything from tying the proper knots on your poles, how to bait your hooks and helpful hints when you got a fish on so you could land it on the boat. They did a good job filleting your fish and packaging it up for you. The meals on board were a bit pricey, $12 for a breakfast burrito and $15 for a cheeseburger and fries. Beer was $7 for a domestic and $8 for an import. I get the covering costs and making money so plan accordingly if you want to eat and drink. Water's and sodas were about $2 a piece and they had lots of snacks available for sale as well. The cook was a pretty rude dude, I sat in the galley off and on taking a break from the action and just observed him being really rude to other anglers when they were asking about food. The communication could have been handled so much better with kinder words for paying customers who were very kind in asking him a question. I personally didn't have any issues interacting with him but watched others look taken aback by his response to their questions. The boat was large but older and a bit worn. The seat cushions in the galley were torn and worn. Lots of wear and tear around the boat and the bunks were the most uncomfortable bunks I've ever been in. They were very small and narrow so if you lay on your back your arm would rest on top of the wood rail on the outside edge or your arm would just fall out of the bunk. The center divider between you and the guy next to you was only half a barrier so when you crawled into your bunk you would be face to face with your neighbor. Because the bunks were so narrow every time you or your neighbor would roll over, the dividing wall would bang both of you around. I served in the Navy and my bunk on board the submarine was a luxury bed compared to the bunks on Old Glory. I would love to have this crew on other boats I've been on. They have been the best I've ever had but the bunks and the wear and tear on this boat would probably keep me from going out on Old Glory again. read more

I just had to take some time to leave a positive review for Captain Brandon and crew on The Premier fishing charter. I came home with a massive amount of fish. Sand Bass tacos with Sculpins for days; burritos, cocktail, soups, and some more. I'm more accustomed to in-shore fishing and brought my own Rod, Reel, & Tackle. I regret not renting one of their poles. I would've caught way more & bigger fish like everyone around me...on top of this structure we were anchored on. As an adventurist and adrenaline junkie, I'm glad I came hip to the "re-write". All day for the low...low price. I'll definitely be back. The Cheeseburger was fire. **Disappointing Experience - Trip Canceled with NO warning after 2-Hour Wait** I had a terrible experience with this fishing charter. I booked a trip well in advance (3 months prior!) and was looking forward to a great day out on the water. The night before we even received a booking confirmation reminder. However, the trip was canceled without notice after I had already been waiting for **two hours**. We got there at 5AM for the 6:30 departure time. We were told that they were waiting for more passengers to check in and to wait. We checked in every 30 minutes and were told to continue waiting. Once 6:30 AM came around we were told that not enough people booked for this time slot and that they were canceling the charter. There was no additional compensation for wasting my time. I understand that sometimes cancellations are necessary, but the lack of professionalism and respect for my time was unacceptable. I won't be booking with this company ever again and would not recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable fishing experience. **there was a total of 7 people waiting and ready for our boat. My over night trip on the Old Glory was very good. the captain and crew were all good. you must have a little experience to catch fish on this type of boat when everyone is fighting to catch a fish and also having the right gear is crucial!!! being able to cast just a little further than others makes a huge difference. also if you don't get bit within 3 minutes, wind it in and recast a fresh new bait. i was lucky and caught 1 28 pound blufin and 3 yellow tail. read more

My 5 year old son had been asking to go fishing on a boat. My dad and I figured a 1/2 day would be a decent test run. I really just expected a boat ride and a few bottom fish. The 'Premier' was the boat we took but I was really impressed with the captain, crew and the catch! They team was friendly, helpful and patient with the new people. Shake down cruise. I tried H&M one more time, my mistake. We had paid over $450 for a 1.75 day fishing trip. What we got was a surly, unhelpful crew more interested in shaking us down than having lines in the water. Once we were aboard we were informed that if we wanted anything to drink, like WATER, for the next two days we'd need to give the crew another $20 each! , For the next two days we motored aimlessly around San Clemente Island almost zero fishing time. At the end of the trip, with just one decent fish for the entire boat, I was charged another $20 for a piece of the fish. It was a very large bluefin, about 200 pounds, but apparently it was the only fish with no belly....the crew made sure of that, they must have had a great meal. Boat; Horizon Been on many boat out of SD and highly recommend the Horizon. Excellent staff and captains. We limited out on bluefin tuna on our trip which was wonderful. This post is about the @Excalibur. The captain (chuck) put us on fish and the crew was amazing. Ryan, Jack, Omar, and Matty were welcoming and inviting. I think the landing (h & m landing) in general is great. However, this boat, and the crew were top notch. The @Excalibur is a spacious boat and they know how to make a trip. If you want to get some fish, eat some great food, and have a blast, come to them. I left a hefty tip for them and I hope to be on the @Excalibur with Jack and Ryan again soon. P.S. Omar is a great chef and he probably should do stand up comedy cause he made me laugh harder then Kevin Hart. read more

A++ deep sea fishing trips and the captains and do a good job on putting you on fish almost everytime I've booked a trip with them. Highly recommend going on an overnight to a week trip! read more
