They were happy to give him treats (which he loves, and it makes a huge difference), they Dremeled his nails exactly like I asked, and they were careful with his ears--he's sensitive to ear flushes, so I requested just water, and they followed that perfectly. I took my double-coated English Springer Spaniel in to be groomed, and they shaved her entire coat. When I made the appointment, I specifically asked if they were able to do breed-specific ESS grooming, and I was assured they could. When I dropped her off, I also made it clear that she should not be body-clipped and that I only wanted her feathering trimmed. After the appointment, I called to understand what happened and how this miscommunication occurred. Alison was very apologetic and explained that the receptionist's notes said to do a 1/2" trim all over. If there was any confusion about those notes, I wish the groomer had called me before starting to confirm that I actually wanted my dog shaved. City Dogs did issue a refund, but I'm extremely disappointed, and now there's a real possibility that my dog's coat will not grow back correctly. read more

This place has injured my dog on more than one occasion. Last groomer shaved under my dog so close that they cut her privates and she ended up scooting for a week. Called to talk to the owner never received a call back. Also had my Cat scheduled for an appointment following week and expressed my concerns since my dog was injured, ended up missing the appointment. Still haven't heard from the owner - they then called me and told me that if I wanted to keep my next scheduled appointment I needed to pay a deposit. What a joke. I am very disappointed this time. I have been using this place for years and the quality of the grooming just got worse and worse, and the price just keeps going up. They ask what I want as always but what came out are not what I said. I said round faces and none of my dogs had round faces. I tell I want the same cut for all my dogs, they don't even look the same. And they try to charge more because what the kind my dogs are. The price got higher but the quality got worse. And when I pick them up, two of my dogs have not had ears cleaned. All of them had long hair around the bodies which means need to be fixed but I just left because the lady who checked me out had attitude. I check the ears because sometimes they forget and I was right this time as well. I guess I will stop coming here. I'm sure I could get some better service somewhere else. read more

Amazing - super friendly and professional team. They clearly love their customers and my labradoodle always looks fabulous. My puppy's first groom at another groomer was unsuccessful, she said he was too difficult and nervous to groom - if you have a similar experience dont give up, City Dogs had no such issue with him and he is happy to walk in their doors. They are so accommodating that they opened on a Sunday to make sure they were able to see all of their customers who had missed appointments due to weather / plumbing issues so they could all look their best for the Thanksgiving holiday. read more

I've been to a few different grooming places, and this is by FAR my favorite. The space is open and welcoming. Though there are inevitably some dog sounds and barks, but nothing compared to the cacophony in other places. The staff are all very friendly and clearly love dogs. They have a service of a free face/paw/nail trim between grooming s that we took advantage of today. It was quick and incredibly skilled. I can't say enough good things. I have taken my Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier to City Dogs Grooming in Bellingham twice and I've been very pleased with the work they've done and their good attitude. It's difficult to find groomers who are able to do a pet cut that is reasonably close to the Wheaten standard and that is what I got both times. My elderly pomeranian is going blind, deaf and really REALLY does not like his back end messed with in any way (and that's unfortunate since small dogs need their anal glands dealt with. We have had issues in the past where he'd come home from the groomers and hide , or was in obvious pain after being groomed. City Dogs, however, are amazing. Not only was his hair cut amazing - he has been happy and tail wagging ever since! It has been, by the far, the best grooming experience we've had for Max. He even fell asleep afterward, which he never does because he's so anxious. Yikes... not only are they rude but now I have vet bills to fix their mistake. I had heard good things about City Dogs so made an appointment for my two Chis, one of whom needs monthly anal gland attention. The customer service was deadpan, they look like automatons going through motions. The place downright reeks of anal gland liquid, but I still had faith that if I left my dogs there their decent reputation would come through and perhaps they are friendly to the pets and only blow off the humans. They did managed to get my girl's glands a little less full, but because they didn't do it right her glands are impacted and I'm paying vet bills to get her poor bottom fixed. So, if you can get past the rude service and the absolute stink of the place, then be careful what you ask for or you'll literally pay to fix their mistakes. read more

The staff here were very helpful, and my skittish and honestly kind of belligerent little dog was handled calmly and came back in a good mood instead of the usual pouty rage she usually has after a visit to the groomer. Her haircut is good, they listened to exactly what I wanted. It took about three hours, which is longer than I'm used to, but won't be a problem in the future now that I know what to expect. Her hair is a little short around the face, but I feel like that was a communication error on my part rather than on theirs. All in all, good job, I will be going back. While spending a few hours at City Dogs Grooming to do some work for them, we were extremely pleased to watch and to listen to all the dogs and all the staff. They played soft,soothing music,let you watch the beautiful pets get their snazy new styles and nail clippings,they greeted each client and their human fondly and comforted the nervous ones with praise and petting.When we went to the bathing and drying area it was just as nice.And they wrap a sweet bandana on every pooch after their appointment. It's easy to tell what a great place this is and how much they truly care about serving their clients. This is the only place I'll allow to touch my dogs fur. They gave him a thorough flea bath when he had his first infestation and afterwards they gave him a beautiful cut that would make people cry from the site of him for just being so unbearably cute. I have taken my little scaredy pants Pixi to CITY DOGS multiple times for a bath, nail clip and clip. All went perfectly. Every visit. These groomers are so kind and patient. I watched them deal with an angry, biting old fellow with such compassion and understanding. My opinion of all their groomers is that they love animals and are in this field because of that. I had been taking my toy poodle to Petsmart to be groomed and after the last time, put my foot down after watching how horribly they treated the animals and promised to never take her there for grooming again! So I researched and found that there simply aren't many reviews on dog groomers in Bellingham, so I took a risk and went with City Dogs. Upon walking in with my anxious dog, I was greeted with friendly, warm faces and asked what cut/style I wanted for my dog. I explained to the best of my ability and the lady speaking with me was very patient. I left feeling like I probably didn't say the correct grooming terms and I would come back to find my dog looked like a shaved rat. They told me it would take approximately 3 hours, and I was called at 2 hours and 55 minutes and told my dog was ready. Very speedy! When I returned, I found my dog very happy and looking ever so adorable! Even more so, the cut was EXACTLY what I wanted! The lady who groomed her was very sweet and complimented my dog, my dog gave her lots of kisses, and then the next step came to payment. I was worried I would be charged for matting fees because my dog was pretty matted in the ears/face. Little to my surprise, I wasn't and the price came out to be $45! Least expensive groom I've ever had for my dog! However, this is the cost for a small 7 pound toy poodle, the bigger the dog, the more expensive. If you want an estimate, call and they are happy to help you! Overall, I've never been more satisfied with a groomers and will definitely return here again with my dog. The owners/workers are genuine, my dog was happy, and she has received many many compliments! read more

The second time, we explained exactly what was wrong previously, and what we expected. Came back two hours later, and she looked awful, again. Never again! I have taken my Shih Tzu / Poodle mix to City Dog's about 10 times. I'm not sure why we kept going back as there was always something wrong with the haircut. The most common issue we had was unevenness. We told them time and time again that they need to check to make sure the face was even. They never did. Also, multiple times when I called they told me they couldn't find our dog information card. So there was no cut history. I had to explain to them many times how to cut my dog's hair. They must have created at least 5 cards for us. This last time was the last straw. Not only was the face uneven, they didn't even cut the nails (which is included in the haircut, not an add-on.) So essentially they ripped us off. Perhaps it was an oversight - I'll never know because I'm not going to step foot in that place again. Finally, their facility, including their parking lot, is nasty. It smells and there is fur every where. Simply nasty. Don't waste your money here. read more

My family used to have a Portuguese Water Dog, we never took him anywhere but here. The staff does an amazing job with the way the treat dogs and the grooming services provided. I have never walked out of there with anything but a smile on my face. I now have a Havanese who I took here for his very first haircut and they did the best job of introducing my puppy to the new experience. He now gets excited every time I pull up to the building. My husband and I would call City Dogs grooming a miracle. We have been turned down for service at Petsmart and Petco because our little 4 pound male Yorkie HATES being groomed and can be awful to deal with. My husband took our puppy in and I had bets that we would get a call in an hour to go pick him up with nothing being cut or washed or cleaned. That call never came! 3 hours later my husband went in to see the damage and Boone looked AWESOME. The lady who groomed him (wish I knew her name) was exhausted, but he looks like a new dog. I SO appreciate this place for handling him and putting in so much time and effort. Good price- better service than anywhere else we've ever taken our dog. Will go back to them forever. The first time I came here I wanted a summer cut for my dog and when I got there to drop her off the groomer at reception told me very rudely that I should not give my dog a summer cut and instead told me a different type of cut for her. Somewhat embarrassed by her rudeness I accepted and asked if it would give me a similar length of coat. She assured me it would, however, when I came to pick my dog up she looked exactly the same. I left and called right away and asked them to get me in for a shave. Thankfully they did it that day and didn't charge me for it. However they treated me so rudely because I was going against their recommendation. The choices I make for my dog are my own choices as a responsible and loving pet owner. I have had her shaved in the past and had no problems growing the coat back, to be judged so harshly on a choice that is solely mine is unacceptable. If this weren't the only semi-decent pet groomer in Bellingham I would never go back but unfortunately there is not much choice. I'm only giving two stars because they did finally cut her fur the way I wanted, not the way the groomer wanted. They also cut her belly when they shaved her. read more

I used to be a mobile pet groomer so for the last 8 years my 112 lb medium haired mixed dog always was groomed by myself. Taking him to someone else was like dropping off a child for their first day of kindergarten! My pup is quite an easy groom since he loves everyone and isn't upset by nail trimmings and dryers. However, my husband and I decided that since I'm pregnant it's a better idea to have someone else take over. I was hesitate to just take him anywhere since I know ALL the horror stories. I asked around and found this place. Close to our house, next day appointment, and he was done in under 2 hours! Talk about easy! My pup was really over-do for a good blow out (undercoat) so I knew when I picked him up how wonderful of a job they did! He doesn't seem upset at all by someone else bathing him and he looks and feels amazing! We will definitely be back! Another note...all the dogs I seen while I was there looked completely at ease.
