    Too much fun!

I'd never participated in an escape room before and tonight was the night. My fun workmates had set this up and we had a dozen engineers including PhD's. Our practical knowledge is perhaps limited but we had a team and we were here to experience it!. No escape room can stop us?! We played the dreaded Zombie Room. I won't provide any spoilers but I will say it was challenging, adrenaline-inducing, brain-twisting, hair-raising, and hilarious! We finished in record time and escaped with most of our lives. I dare you to try it!

After doing four different escape rooms, I can say this is one of the best in the Bay Area by comparison. The one room they have open at the moment is very challenging. We did escape, but used more clues than I'd like to admit. The staff is very friendly, and parking was an ease. I can't wait until their next room opens, I'll be one of the first in line! If you've never done an escape room, I highly recommend going! It's very addicting!

Wow... unbelievable how money can truly change a person's character. Although, I am not aware of the type of person the owner, Kristi, was prior to becoming owner of "Can You Escape" on Memorial Hwy in Tampa. I would rate this review ZERO stars if I could. My husband and I were planning to visit "Can You Escape" on Memorial as a party of 6 people, all couples. We were referred by my sister who previously attended to the Clearwater location. Upon her visit, she was given a complimentary card for the free admission of one person, in a group of 3 or more people. My husband attempted to book a "Midieval" room for this upcoming Saturday, March 26, using the promo code provided on the card. The promo code was not working properly online. My husband phoned the company trying to troubleshoot. We then were informed that the promo code ONLY applied to the "Office" rooms. On the complimentary admission card, there was no specification that the promo code only corresponded to the "Office" rooms. In fact, the exact statement on card is as follows "One Team. One Adventure. One Hour". I have even included a picture of the card (front and back- blacking out promo code) in this review. Not by any means, is there clarification that the promo only applied to the "Office" rooms. We were instructed to contact the owner, Kristi, and address the issue with her. We did just that and awaited a returned phone call. Surely, she did respond and was relentless in her stance continuously reiterating that those cards were produced prior to the existence of other "non-office" rooms and that it was unfortunate that we misunderstood the coverage of the free admission. Despite the fact that the admission card revealed no such information. She completely evaded fault and maintained her position. Kristi was arrogant, impolite and disrespectful. She continuously provoked my husband and even insulted his intelligence by blatantly asserting that my husband was guilty of several "fallacies". Kristi persisted in her condescending tone and was unwilling to negotiate. She even asked my husband "So you and your party of 6 would not come over $28?!" After my husband countered and explained that the principle still stands that considering the error was on behalf of the company, it was their responsibility to honor the complimentary admission. She then responded saying "I asked a simple question". Implying that my husband's lengthy response was both unnecessary and unappreciated. Kristi even laughed in his face taunting him with a comment along the lines of "Wow you are really working hard for this $28, aren't you?!" My husband and I own a small family business and we are well aware of the severity of false advertisement, and how that could sabotage the publics' and consumers' trust in and loyalty to a company. Not to mention how important customer satisfaction is in order to assure customer retention. Not only will we NEVER make any contribution to this company, but we will also steer anyone whom we know away from supporting this location or any location owned by Kristi and/or her associates. We are terribly disappointed in the quality of person that Kristi is and how arrogantly and rudely she presents herself. We have never encountered such a negative and degrading customer experience. We will proceed to also file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Although I doubt that will spark a reaction from Kristi, seeing as she is entirely motivated by greed and pretension. Sadly, the point still remains, that the issue was not the $28, but rather the lack of customer appreciation and false advertisement. It's a shame. Truly a shame.

After completing the medieval room. Themed pictures for whichever room you choose. "The Office" is the best for beginners.

The medieval escape room was so much fun! My husband and I have done several escape rooms and John was one of the best room advisors we have had. He knew the perfect moment to give us a clue and knew when we just needed time to think. I highly recommend Can You Escape? and specifically John as your room advisor.

When we asked Luke, who was our front desk person about it he said sometimes they are late giving the hints, because they are overseeing multiple rooms, which is why the hint that they gave was no longer helpful. Luke, however, was fantastic so shout out to him. We did the Scooby Doo escape room and overall it was pretty great. I really like how they have little signs that show when something isn't part of the game, so you don't spend unnecessary time trying to break into something that you're not supposed to. Overall, I thought all the clues worked well together and they were all different enough to keep things really interesting. We thought we were doing really well when we got into the third room with 30 minutes to spare, but that one was particularly difficult for us. The room is well themed and clean. We started right on time. Pro tip that you can get your 90 minutes validated here and if you go shopping at sprouts they validate on top of that so you can save $10 total in parking. However, I think they don't stack 90 minutes on 90 minutes, they only stack 60 minutes on 90 minutes so you can get a total of 2 1/2 hours of free parking. I do enjoy the games here so we will probably be back.

We were greeted by a friendly hostess, who made us sign waivers. A TV playing Looney Tunes was in the lobby. When we went to the room, a TV showed us the mission and timer, while there was a button to press for clues. The top secret room was well themed and had lots of good puzzles. Some of them were challenging, and we had to ask for clues. However, sometimes it did take some time to get the clues, and we were a bit stumped figuring it ourselves. Additionally, some clues given were for puzzles we already solved. Though, once we got the clues we needed, we were able to solve the puzzles. We also had to wait 5 minutes per getting another clue, which was fair. We got very lucky to escape successfully in Top Secret, but we may have received additional time as well. The Dracula room was a bit easier, as the puzzles were more understandable and easier to solve. We didn't have to use many clues, but when we did, they were given to us a bit faster than the other room. The theming was nice and was a bit spooky, but thankfully no jump scares unlike their other horror room, horror circus. We were able to escape that room with ample time left. After finishing the rooms, the staff asked us if we had any questions regarding the puzzles, and congratulated us after escaping the rooms. There was a tone when we got each clue, as well as the staff occasionally giving it to us in character. They did a great job keeping the immersion of the rooms. We were also thanked for playing before leaving the facility. For 40 dollars per person per room after taxes, I would say it was definitely worth it for the experience. The rooms are nicely themed, the staff were friendly and mostly helpful, and the puzzles were understandable. I was also happy that there weren't many locks and most puzzles made you interact with the equipment. I'm looking forward to doing more rooms with them, maybe one day I would be brave enough to do the jump scare horror circus room.

We were instructed on how to play the game. We were told to just ask for clues when we needed them. We were walked to the room and the different areas explained. The room was locked and the hunt commenced. Disclaimer we did not make it out, though we were one step away. We forgot that we could ask for clues so we had to figure everything out alone. There are clues for each step if you request the clue. We didn't ‍. We felt like real Sherlock Holmes searching for the clues. The room is hard and simple if you can get into the Holmes mind frame. When we did request a clue, we could barely hear it. That would be my only issue. It seemed like whispers coming through and we weren't sure if someone was talking to us or if it was outside noise. I would definitely recommend visiting and taking on the challenge.

I did find the room to be a bit bare bones in terms of the amount of decoration and puzzles to solve but then again I've been in some very elaborate escape rooms such as Doldrick's Escape Room in Orlando (check that place out). Even though the place is fairly new we didn't run in to any technical difficulties while trying to solve the puzzles. The staff member there was really friendly and helpful. We got a great discount on Groupon to try this place out so it was worth the money. We had an enjoyable time.
