But anyway, I was happy with that) I drove all the way down there ( I live about 40 mins away but this is not their fault) I went there with all the papers that they needed, we filled the application and they said that everything was ok and in up to 2 weeks we'll have the new one.I also asked them if we could change the direct deposit of her retirement to different bank account and they said that they cannot do that at this office and I should call a number that they gave me. The next day I'm calling the number that they gave me and they told me that I should get an appointment for that and at this point I realized that it was the same office so I asked them why we couldn't do that yesterday when I was there and I have to drive again down there? The woman I was talking with she just apologized and didn't give me any answer. I was pissed of so I said leave it I'm gonna try again to do it online... after 3 days they called me back and they said that they were sorry but they missed one document that we had when we were there but they didn't get a copy!!! (I don't remember which one) and the application was not completed so we should arrange another appointment... so I got an appointment for 2 days later. I drove down there again and I did the whole paperwork from the beginning (filled the application again and provided all the documents that they asked for) and I asked them 'why we should do that again I thought that you missed just one document, I already filled the application the last time' of course I didn't get any answer. The woman at the window she just said we have to do it again. Anyway, when we did it and she said that everything is ok and that we gonna have the new ss card at our mail in up to 2 weeks I asked them if this time she was sure that everything is ok and cause my mother has a long Greek name I asked her to be careful and NOT misspell her name ( it was like I knew that this gonna happen). 10 days later the card came with... Guess what.... WRONG NAME. I didn't even call them to complain. I don't want to spend not even 1 more minute to talk to these guys. Those people there they are awful, I think that the only thing that they can do correctly is to sleep in their office.

In the 28 hours I was held here: barely any water. unable to eat --the one "meal" they offered I couldn't consume because of a medical condition that causes severe illness when I consume wheat. Harassed and mocked for my gender identity (after an arresting officer unzipped my coat and grabbed my chest to determine my sex). Fellow inmate denied medical attention for symptoms of a concussion after being dropped on her head by arresting officers. Ignored and later mocked for screaming and crying for help for her. Denied necessary medications and then released feeling very ill and barely able to see straight. These guards could not care less who you are or why you are in there. They would literally not care if you drop dead. They are sick people who get off on others' suffering. Shame on them all.

Re:  RESIDENTIAL ELECTRONICS RECYCLING PROGRAM…read more Wow!  I sure was happy to notice this program in a Google search!  Needing to recycle two old TVs and a fax machine, I was thrilled to find a place where I could recycle for free that was near my home. I found out that besides the City of Chicago permanent facility at 1150 North Branch Street, which is open every Tuesday,  Thursday and the 1st Saturday of the month, there are six other Streets and Sanitation locations that accept certain electronics once a month from April to December.  This location at 52nd Street and Oakley, is open on the  third Wednesday of the month  from 9 am to 1 pm.   Unlike the North Branch facility,  which accepts a larger variety of items, only certain electronics are accepted here:  computers,  computer monitors,  TVs,  scanners, printers, fax machines,  keyboards and mice, VCRs, DVD players/recorders,  video game consoles, portable digital  music players, digital  converter boxes, cable and satellite receivers, and small-scale servers.  Dropping off the old electronics was very easy.  A truck was located on 52nd Street near the entrance to the parking lot.  The guys working on the truck were very nice and helped transfer the items to the truck. It is so nice to get these items out of my house and recycled responsibly for free! It is best to get there as early as possible because once the truck is full, that's it for the month at this location.  Re:  Streets and San service from this location  I have been satisfied with my garbage pick-up.  Any time that I have called this office, I have encountered helpful people.  Sonia Campbell has been especially helpful in the past.  Date of this review is April 19, 2023.  Probably best to double check the information in the future to make sure that the recycling program is still in effect and that dates and time have not changed. Got to visit this important part of Chicago history. It may only be the entrance but it's still…read morequite impressive. The Union Stockyards was where most of the meat came from and got packaged. At the entrance was this gate with a cow. You can still go through it, and check out a memorial to city firefighters. A lot of butchering went on here, and it got pretty smelly in this area. It's been redeveloped into an industrial park. The gate was designed by Daniel Burnham and John W. Root in 1879, and is the only important structure still intact from the stock yards. It's located just west of Halsted. This is located on Exchange Avenue at Peoria Street. Beyond here is a memorial to city firefighters. In 1934 a significant fire leveled the yards. A few other fires occurred in its history. The gate was added to the National Register Of Historic Places in 1972, and restored. John D. Sherman was the stockyard superintendent, and he had a favorite bull. This bull was named Sherman, and there's a bust of him on the center arch, welcoming workers to the stockyards where the other bulls weren't as lucky. History is here even though this area looks pretty boring. It's just a bunch of factories and other buildings, with almost no signs of what used to be here. There's not a whole lot of other stuff to look at, but this is pretty cool stuff though.

Sherman stands for a prize-fighting bull that was named after John Sherman, one of the founders of the Stockyards. This historical site is out of the way but worth a visit if you are a history buff or interested in the culture and flavor of Chicago's past. There is a some good reading on the informative plaque and the arch stands right next to the railroad crossing. You can just imagine the animals traveling on the tracks and the horrific suffering that they and the immigrants working at The Stockyards underwent before Upton Sinclair wrote his muckraking piece "The Jungle." The drive back will also take you through the South Side of Chicago to see the infamous neighborhood, and you can roll out around Hyde Park to check out the old grounds from the Chicago Exposition of 1895.

There are two parking lots as part of the canal plaza, which can easily fill up depending on the time of day (earlier times seems to have worked out better for me). People also park directly outside on Archer for quick appointments but try at your own risk (not allowed at a certain point) The place is small but set up in a way to move efficiently and in an organized fashion. You'll line up outside to get your appointment details verified and will be let in shortly Once you're in, the staff is generally pretty tame and helpful compared to other locations. There was less asian representation than I expected but overall pretty diverse, mainly with English and Spanish speaking individuals with limited mandarin but no dedicated Cantonese staff on site (at least when I went) Besides all that, the pacing will be limited to 6 computers/stations attending to patrons at a time. No public restrooms and 2 dedicated seats for seniors. While you wait, you can vibe to some mainstream pop music as thats what theyre often playing inside lol (PS: there is a place next door where you can print documents for $3 if you need to if itll save you a trip back and forth) I think things will move relatively quickly - i had a more complicated use case so spent over an hour there but that should certainly not be the norm. Paul and one of the managers Luz worked patiently with me to verify my documents and answer the questions I had while walking me through and explaining why some procedures were being done (green card, marriage name vs maiden name type situation).
