Stopped in with my wife and mom for dinner on Tuesday evening. We ordered drinks, a Manhattan for me, glass of wine for my wife, and a banana concoction cocktail for mom (interestingly, no banana in it). We ordered starters of the pretzel and chips & dip. Unfortunately the chips were not house made. The pretzel was pretty good. For dinner, my wife and mom had light appetites order a French onion soup and a side salad while I ordered the pulled pork sundae. My husband and I came to The Vault on a Wednesday evening for our anniversary. We were surprised how crowded it was for a Wednesday night but we soon understood why. There were several seats at the bar so we decided to take those. The Vault is in an old bank and the interior of the restaurant is very inviting and has a wonderful aesthetic. It was national beer and pretzel day and it was super cool that they had a specific beer flight special with pretzel pairing. We were amazed at how well the pairings worked with one another! We ordered the bruschetta but unfortunately it didn't come out as an appetizer but rather with dinner. Our waitress noticed this and took it off of our bill. The service from that standpoint was on point! For dinner my husband and I shared the piggy bank pizza and the brisket burnt ends. The pizza was a typical, but good bar pizza. First time here, but have known about the establishment for a few years. This is an old bank turned into a wine bar. We came on a Friday night and sat outside under the tent area. Weather was beautiful. Indoors has limited seating, but looks really nice. They keep the wine in the vault which is pretty cool. Food was pretty good however service I would say is average. Seem to be some confusion on who was waiting on which tables but at the end we were taking care of. Overall we had a good experience and dined with another couple. Great location. Very cool venue. Food and service is great (even by Columbus standards, and that's saying something!). We only get back to Shelby once or twice a year, and this has become a 'go to' spot to meet up with friends. Great menu selection, the bar area is excellent to help if you want nice glass of wine or a well made craft cocktail, or low and behold a damn beer! Ha! Went to this restaurant for a little date night with my fiancé the other night and we were not disappointed! It is smaller on the inside, so we had to sit at the bar but the service was awesome! Our waitress made great recommendations and was super sweet. They have a ton of wines to choose from, which as a wino I loved. We split a bottle of wine and the bacon wrapped dates for an appetizer. Let me tell you, I could live off those dates, they were phenomenal! Then we split two different pizzas for dinner, the vault and the chicken bacon ranch. We were a little disappointed in the vault (kind of lacked flavor), but the chicken bacon ranch was great, and the crust was awesome! Once you enter it's a wonderful open space with very high open air ceiling and impressive lights. My partner & I took a seat at the bar. We were greeted promptly, handed a specials lunch menu & the list of wine & beer flights. I started us there, I ordered the Three Shades of Sweet flight. (I LOVE Sweet wines) let me tell you the Vault did not hold back. My glasses of the flights were nicely filled for a sampler. All three wines were a hit and I ordered another flight. We both ordered the BLT & a side of French Onion Soup. The bacon was crispy & thick. The French Onion soup was so cold on a cold raining afternoon and weirdly went perfect with sweet wines. I went to the Vault for the fourth time today, in the past 2 months. I go on Friday for the pizza buffet. The pizza is good, how ever the service is terrible. Not one time in the four trips has the server ever came over and asked if I wanted a drink refill. That would be bad enough by itself, but they will actually provide service to the table right beside of me, and never bother to address my table. To me, it does not matter how good the food is, I look for the service. I do not drink alcohol or pop. I only drink water. Twice they have filled the glasses at the table beside of me, and ignore me. I even pushed the glass to the front of the table, so that they could see it better. The only way I get a drink refill, is if I ask for one. read more

Visited The Vault Wine Bar last Tuesday evening after voting. Weather was nasty and we were initially the only ones in this amazing space. We were greeted promptly by a very friendly waitress (discovered later that she is one of the owners) and, prior to ordering, she proceeded to take me on a tour of the restaurant which I appreciated. The upstairs area is by reservation only and can be rented for $25 an hour, I believe. The downstairs has a small room just off the dining area for mingling. The actual bank vault holds various wine bottles and there is an outside area under canopy. The restaurant seemed clean and both the acoustics and lighting appeared to be acceptable. As others have noted, this is not the type of restaurant you would typically see in a small town. I greatly appreciate the uniqueness of The Vault as one can only take so many diners and greasy spoons. Being a self-professed pizza guru (have eaten pizza 350 days a year for over 20 years - read my other reviews) I opt for the boring cheese pizza. My pizza philosophy is show me a dynamite cheese pizza, and I will show you a pizza joint that knows their stuff, but enough about my cheese pizza ramblings. My wife has gluten issues and opts for a gluten-free Caprese pizza with tomato slices, balsamic reduction drizzle, fresh mozzarella, and basil pesto instead of sauce. For drinks she orders a Sangria and finds it ok. We are used to the Sangria at Broken Rocks in Wooster, a restaurant many on Yelp probably wish I'd shut my blowhole about... but anyway, the Sangria at Broken Rocks is one of the best drinks we have had anywhere - period - so that is a tough benchmark to beat. The pizza comes out at the 15 minute mark and we were not impressed. For my pie, the homemade crust and cheese were both solid, but the pizza sauce was not so great. No flavor and the onions hadn't cooked down - ever eat pizza sauce with crunchy onions? Not pleasant. My wife tries her pizza and has a similar, but worse opinion. She did not care for anything about her pizza and really disliked the gluten-free crust (try Borgata Pizza Cafe if you suffer from this affliction). Even though we weren't fans of the pizza they do offer many other menu items, for instance they offered a french dip sandwich the night we were there. They also have snacks, salads, soups, small plates, and cheese boards - I would recommend maybe trying one of these options. This would probably be a great place to just go for drinks as the bottled beer and wine selection is pretty impressive for small town Ohio. When finishing up our meal the other owner, who happened to be our waitress' husband, came over and spoke to us at length about the restaurant and was so warm and sincere. It was easy to see that he really takes a lot of pride in the business. With this level of hospitality and such a beautiful, unique dining space The Vault Wine Bar is definitely one to check out. read more

The Vault is true treasure. My brother and I had lunch the other day while on a visit to Shelby. Service was excellent, food was delicious and the wine and beer we had was wonderful. The ambiance of this place is great. My brother and I grew up in Shelby and used to be customers of the former bank which is now the Vault Wine Bar. To retain the historical significance of this former bank is great. The atmosphere and decor is on par with wine bars I have experienced in NYC and Pittsburgh, yet it is in the little town of Shelby. We come to the Shelby area frequently to visit my grandmother. Since we are from Phoenix, Arizona we struggle to find good food when we are in Ohio. In a span of two weeks, we ate at The Vault three times. We found the wine selection and prices to be much better than any of the local restaurants. The food is far superior to any other restaurant in the area. We had the summer salad twice and it is fresh and delicious. We love the short ribs on mashed potatoes and the pork medallions on sweet potatoes. We've also had The Vault Pizza with short ribs, caramelized onions, cheese, and horseradish drizzle. We enjoyed their buffalo pizza which was very tasty. We also had a side salad and a few appetizers -- jalapenos wrapped w/bacon and carrot fries. Both of those were awesome.
