Easy parking at the Hennepin County Parking Garage. No line when we arrived. Waited about 2 mins before my ticket number was called. Extremely helpful and friendly staff (yes, friendly DMV staff!!). We went on a Thursday first thing in the morning in case that's part of the reason it was slower. I think people may avoid this location thinking it would be busier downtown, but now that a lot of people work from home, I think this is a hidden gem of a DMV! I also overheard someone being able to email their proof of residence documents to reception because they didn't bring the right documents. Just an overall wonderful experience. Would come back, but hopefully won't need to ;)

I recommend having an appointment, but I have also dropped in as a standby and didn't have to wait too long. There is ample parking across the street in the garage and it is below the midtown exchange, so you can get a bite to eat if you have to wait for a while.

Taking eight years to complete, the Hennepin County Government Center opened in 1977, to…read moreconsolidate county government and judicial function in an indoor setting. It is 24 stories, 403 feet tall, and consists of two towers, connected by a very impressive atrium. My wife and I spent a Minneapolis weekday afternoon, exploring downtown using the Minneapolis Skyway System (which itself is extremely impressive: second level pedestrian bridges connecting 80 city blocks with 9.5 miles of walkway). We ended up at the Center, which was different than the other places: the center is a giant indoor atrium that sits above 6th street, connecting the two towers, all indoors. This means that for office workers looking outside from the towers, the view could be that of a giant indoor space, matching close outdoor space which could get quite cold. It's a great marriage of how the Skyway flows into the atrium, almost presenting a model of how an underwater city might look like, with a giant 400 feet high open space. It also reminds me of the design on some of the giant cruise boats that I've recently been on, and maybe even being inside of a snow globe, watching a large Minneapolis snow storm, passing through. It's a great example of thoughtful design and great engineering.

You can't see into the tinted windows and they were pretty much watching me be lost in the courtyard, lol. A security guard eventually walked up to me to help and opened the door for me to wait with the others inside. I've never been to this building and not sure how courthouse weddings work but we were guided upstairs once everyone got there and the quick ceremony was right in the upstairs lobby just standing around. We were able to stay and take a few pics and left out. They had a bit of construction going on and some areas closed off since the building was technically closed. No good solid areas to take photos though.
