I went in a few weeks ago to renew my license, I got there shortly before they opened and had the usual long-ish wait (but the people watching was pretty great, not as entertaining as at Walmart but not far behind!) The actual renewal process went pretty smoothly and quickly. A few days later, I received a letter in the mail... "The photo taken does not meet our quality standards, we need to retake your photo. The service is free." Okay, couldn't they determine that at the time the photo was taken so I wouldn't have to return?! Sure, it's free but my time isn't. I went in earlier this week to renew my driver's license. I scheduled an appointment in advance and completed the application online in advance. I was in and out in under 30 minutes and that included renewing the tabs of my two cars. I didn't even know that was something I could do in advance so appreciated that convenience. The person who helped me was so friendly and helpful. My husband had the same thing going on that day and had the same very positive experience. The front desk person was also friendly. DMV is not a place to dread anymore! read more

The service excellent in and out 25 minutes but unless you know where to enter the mall you are doomed If 1225 Southdale center was somewhere outside on a sign it would help I looked for an entry beginning with a 12 because there are door numbers on entries . But no luck. Enter door 17 by Cheesecake Factory follow the Hennepin service center signs go down escalator turn right then left then right on lower level It needs to be marked better externally I could see a closer door once I got there but drove around outside later to try to find that door but no luck. There is an application form on line to fill in advance for transfer between states, selling you car privately , transfer title, get new registration, etc. Do the form in advance to be prepared. Marielle( Im not too sure if thats how you spell her name) was such a sweet heart. She was so patient with us and very polite. It's something about southdale that makes everyone so sweet. We were at midtown for a permit for maybe 2 or so hours and they didn't advance more than 4 people in that last hour we were there. Half the staff had left. Half of the ones who were still at the desk were arguing with customers. And that was midtown. We got inpatient, and went to southdale. We went here the Thursday before Memorial Day and there was a large sign on the door warning patrons to expect an extended waiting time. I had no choice since I was only visiting. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was extremely helpful and polite. I expected a long wait, but the warning sign was just there for the impatient suckers that believed it. We were called up to the window within an hour and had everything finished within another hour. Pretty impressive for a 59 year old car with a missing title, registered solely to a deceased owner, that hadn't been registered in 49 years. ***Special thanks to Lora Juracek, the veteran employee that met us at her window. It is so convenient (now that I'm use to having to go to a shopping mall to do state business), if you can time your visit here with some shopping needs. Otherwise, it's just a bit of a walk from the parking lot to get here. As long as you don't show up during peak times (lunch hour, near the end of their day, etc.), you can generally get in and out fairly quickly. My shortest wait time has been around 10 minutes, and my longest is around 30 minutes. But if it's a longer wait, you'll know it and can shop for a few minutes if you want. But just know you'll likely have a wait time of something, unless you show up 15 minutes before they open in the morning to be first in line. Note: They do NOT process Passport Applications here any more. 2019 update: they seem to be either be busier or more backed up. My attempt at getting Veteran places wasn't able to happen on two different occasions. I don't know if it was the worker not knowing how do to do it (the first time) which caused my account to get locked up it it's just the faulty MN Lars system. Regardless, it took me an hour there to get service. 2 stars on this visit. read more

I went in for a driver's license address change and to upgrade to Real I.D. at the same time. It could not have been easier. I made an appointment online beforehand and was called to the counter before I could even start my paperwork. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I was in and out in less than fifteen minutes. Absolutly the worst customer service. I was given a number and when it was called, I went to the designated window. Daniella, without looking up from her phone told me I had to wait in line. I pointed out that my number had been called and the number was illuminated above her head. She grudgingly put away her phone and condescended to wait on me. She refused to accept my paperwork, although I had everything specified in my confirmation letter. She was unable to recognized a pay stub. After finally taking care of my paperwork, she didn't give me any receipts. I finally got what I needed from the very wonderful clerk who was handling my husband's paperwork read more

Went in to get copies of documents for passport renewal. 3:45 pm, hardly anyone there. I was in and out in 20 min. The clerk was super-nice and so helpful. He gave me a manila folder to keep my docs nice and even printed out the applications for me, taking one more thing off my list. And all with a smile. You might ask why I give a DMV four stars. I've been here twice already and had unexpectedly fast service. Wednesday before 12 pm and Friday near closing time seem to be the best times to go. I was in and out in 15 minutes on both occasions! No, I do not jest on such a serious matter as time wasted during a DMV excursion I've been to the time vortex called the Ridgedale - DMV. Believe me, it's worth the extra minutes of drive time to go to the Edina - DMV. Customer service is excellent. They do not accept VISA and charge 2% extra on other credit card transactions. There is a US BANK cash machine on the premises. If you are not a US BANK customer, bring cash. read more

I'll start by saying that I was in and out with a renewed license in about 13 minutes. I made a weekday morning appointment online (highly recommend doing this; this may have been the main reason everything was so quick), arrived 10 minutes early, filled out the paperwork, was called up, paid, had my photo taken, done! The clerk named Lora was polite and efficient. This was the most chill and clean DMV office I've been in (though the St. Louis Park location was also quite lovely). I'm now feeling happy that I checked this errand off my list and can go on with my day. read more

I know it's random to write a review for a DMV but hey, I'm here. Came in to do a change of address and wow, what a simple process that was. Convenient, easy to get to (right inside Southdale mall across from Jimmy Johns), and staff was friendly! We made the mistake of coming in 15 min before close and was expecting to either not be served or be served by someone who hates their job. Neither happened. I moved to MN not long ago. So I need a new registration for my car. Today I went to the center. I am impressed by the well organized and clean office. There are many chairs there. The staff that I met were nice and professional. Even the line was a little long sometimes, but it moved fast. I stayed there for about 30 minutes in total to get my plates in my hands. Slow terrible service! Tabs that I ordered online never got delivered so I had to go to the service center anyways. Had to wait in line twice because they skipped the number they gave me. Talk about a frustrating trip to the DMV. read more

Overcharged with the new system. Never received license tabs that I ordered in the mail. Then they charged me a fee when I went to get duplicates, even though they were never sent. Get it together state of Minnesota! read more
