I marked down only because they don't sterilize tools. Beyond that, my sip French manicure is perfect. They soaked off the previous color instead of wrapping in foil with a cotton ball soaked in acetone and using the grinder so much. I really really appreciate that. The pedicure is great. Basic pedicure was well done and Nguyen was careful with my toenails and calluses. I have one nail that is thick and bothersome. She took care of it gently. I will ask for her next time. While they do take walk-ins, I would get there first thing in the morning. They open at 9:30. Overall, busy busy busy but I didn't feel rushed as a walk in. read more

at first I was a bit doubtful, I was seated immediately however it took about 25 minutes before someone started working on my nails (only removed previous nail polish and filed my nails before getting up and working on someone else.) Although that's not bad given they don't take reservations. In total I spent about 35 minutes waiting before a man came over to actually do my nails. He was very polite and friendly and did an amazing job! Nail places in Boone aren't the best, I usually get my nails done in Greensboro when I visit family but I needed a fill in so I came here. My nail technician was very nice and asked me during every step of my appointment what I thought of the shape and length and everything. He even thinned them out and made them a little more narrow than my last technician in GSO did which I appreciated because they were a little round looking. My nails turned out pretty good, the shape on my nails is lopsided on one or two nails but overall they're very nice looking and shaped well. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is how expensive a was for a fill in. With tip included I paid $43. Anywhere else in a different city wouldn't have been more than $30. Other than that, this is the only place in Boone I'd go to get my nails done. read more

My daughter has been coming here for a while and her nails always look fantastic. I was visiting from Charlotte and was overdue for an acrylic fill in and my nail length was far too long for me, so I hopped into City Nails. When you walk in the shop is a nice size - not too big and not too small. You don't feel like a row of people are gawking as you walk in the door. All of the staff are friendly, nice and welcoming. They asked what I was needing and didn't seem bothered that I wanted to soak off my acrylics and switch to dip powder (and they have a TON of beautiful colors of dip powder on top of gel and polish colors!). I sat down and they set up the soak (two ziplock bags, each with paper towels soaked in acetone and then hot water in bowls) and I was very comfortable. They checked on me periodically and took layer after layer off. They never rushed, but kept things moving in a timely manner. I liked that they didn't turn up the electric drill to mock-ten to rush through the process! My own nails are very thin, so they decided to keep a thin layer of the acrylic to keep some strength and I like that. The dip process was great - plenty of layers, thorough and neat. And they finished off with a lightly scented oil. Everything is clean and neat. Finally, I was overdue for an eyebrow and lip wax and I meant to ask but forgot but they asked me if I would like a wax too (great upscale) which I did. That went smoothly and I think she even penciled in some too, because my brows look extra! All in all, this place is really great, calming and relaxing! I highly recommend going to City Nails. And the bad reviews are 3-6 years ago - well outdated! You won't be disappointed going here!!! read more

AVOID CITY NAILS IN BOONE!! This is gonna be a long one, sorry. I just had the worst customer service/experience of my life. I literally left the salon in tears. I had to be at work this morning for a while for a work fair and my nana was keeping my daughter for me. I got out of work earlier than I expected so I went to City Nails in Boone to get a pedicure while I knew my daughter was taken care of and I had a few extra mins (as a mom, I don't have extra mins very often, nor do I prioritize self care). I haven't gotten a pedicure in over a year, but it's been even longer than that since I have been to this salon. So last week I called and asked if I could come use a gift certificate that was expired, it had expired a while back and they said yes that I could come this week, I said okay I will try to do that but told them I wasn't sure what day I would be there. I repeated on the phone again with the lady that it was expired and they were okay with that and she said yes that they would honor it. So today I go and get a basic pedicure ($40) that took them about 15-20 mins. I go to pay and hand them the gift certificate and told them I talked to someone last week who told me that I could use it but today they refused to take it and denied ever talking to me. I didn't even bring my wallet with me because I wasn't going anywhere besides work and the nail salon. I didn't have any other way of paying besides this gift certificate. They proceed to tell me I needed to leave either my cell phone or my Apple watch on my wrist at the salon to ensure I come back to pay. I told them multiple times that I would be back but I wasn't going to leave my belongings. They told me I didn't look like someone they could trust to come back and pay. Then they asked for my license which I did not give them because how am I supposed to drive without my license? Then they told me they were going to take the tag off my car and keep it until I came back. (Uhh what?!?!) I said no, I'm certain that's illegal to do, you can't do that. A man named Tim told me how "irresponsible" I was and for not bringing my wallet and how I'm "not a mature adult". They told me I needed to call my family or friends and have them come pay for me. I told them my friends and family are at work and can't just leave to come do that. Then Tim said "wow you don't even have people that trust you or will help you, why would we trust you?" Then they wanted me to write my social security number down for them so they could keep it in case I didn't come back. At this point I was APPALLED and in tears I'm being treated this way at a salon I have been to since I was in high school, literally over a decade. Every single worker in the place (about 5-6 people) were raising their voices at me and speaking a different language amongst each other and then would start yelling at me again. Then the cashier lady goes around to every single customer in the salon and shows them the gift certificate and that it was expired. She was telling all the customers I was refusing to pay and telling them to tell me to pay. One customer in particular was an older woman and starting telling me I needed to pay them for their services and how I was ruining her experience. She said she couldnt believe I was not willing to comply with their requests if I was a decent person. All while I'm literally in tears because of the way they are treating me. I physically didn't have a card or cash to pay them, I only brought the gift certificate with me. Then they told me they were calling the cops on me because I was refusing to pay for service. I told them I wasn't refusing but I didn't have a way to pay them and that I wasn't comfortable leaving my belongings with them. So they get on the phone and call the police and I can hear them telling the police they have a "aggressive customer" they need taken care of. At this point, not once have I raised my voice, cussed, called any names, NOTHING to be accused as an aggressive customer. I called my husband because I literally didn't have a way to pay and I didn't know what else to do. Thankfully he was there in minutes and they started yelling, cussing and pointing their fingers at him because he was questioning what was going on. He gave it right back to them which wasn't necessarily the right thing to do but he was upset that they were treating me this way. He asked how much they wanted him to pay and they had changed the price all of a sudden. I told them to take whatever charge they had on there off and charge the original $40 they had on their iPad screen originally for him to pay. He paid their charge but of course they told me I was never welcome back. Which is totally fine, I would never go back anyway. I truly cannot believe I was treated this way though. I have never in my life been so embarrassed and treated so poorly from a business. And for a business to treat their customers this way, I don't know how they even have customers. read more

City nails is 100% the best in Boone! A few years ago I went to a different nail salon in Boone for prom nails and ended up getting a wart on my thumb from them and I haven't been back since. One day, a couple friends and I decided to try city nails and haven't looked back! Tim is the owner (and the best nail tech there in my opinion) but all of his other family/employees are just as good, as I've had my nails done by most of them. Unfortunately they don't do appointments as of right now, but if there is a wait, it is definitely worth it. Just got my nails done for college graduation pics and I'm OBSESSED to say the least. They also make every customer fill out a covid screening form, use hand sanitizer, and have their temperature checked right now for Covid precautions. Give them a shot :) read more

I went in to the shop for a French gel but decided on just the polish because it was slightly busy. The young woman who did my work seemed rushed and was very rough with my nails. I am not a picky person when it comes to my nails but these nails all came off within the day. I know polish is short term but within 24 hours? She had to redo my nails at least three times from when she would rub some off. The polish seemed cheap because it kept rubbing off and the place did not look that clean. The price was a lot higher than other places. The staff wasn't very nice. I would recommend going elsewhere and will not be returning. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! Better to save your money and your sanity. I visited City Nails to have a relaxing pedi and gel fill. Well, that didn't happen! This was the worst nail experience I've ever had in my life! I was put with the little skinny guy with hickeys all over his neck! He was rude and could care less about what I wanted. He was rude, dirty and smelly. After the pedicure, walked across the cold dirty floor barefoot to the table. He proceeds to use the drill and file my nails down all the while talking and looking at people coming in the door! I would pull my hand away after the first burn due to his inattentiveness, he would say, "relax, relax." He continued to do this and had me almost to tears. So much for relaxing. He was TERRIBLE!! First thoughts: pretty & efficient. Having already tried the one other nail salon in town (and not being impressed) my expectations were not very high. I was referred by my boss to try this salon & boy am I glad. The tech greeted me as soon as I entered (very impressive) and immediately seated me. The salon had 3 other people ahead of me but I still managed to get a beautiful gel manicure in under 30 mins. Staff were professional & very nice. Did an okay job on my nails, but super pricey for the area. I got one color of SNS with tips and it was almost $70. I usually pay a maximum of $45 in this area for SNS. Nail shape is uneven and the nail tech said "I'll do my best but they won't match." As a nail tech, I am pretty sure it isn't appropriate to tell a customer that. Lastly, they do not take appointments, so it's hard to fit it into a busy schedule. read more

Fantastic nail salon! The staff was very nice and well trained. It was clean and they had a Christmas movie playing with the sound on so you could watch while you got your nails done.
