The Rose of Rose Avenue is a huge shopping and life hub with a great Starbucks, Walmart, Sam's Club, Ross (Dress for Less), Dairy Queen, Chili's, Panda Express, Vons and even more. A lot of big brand favs in one area. Described as a seaside city of the coast, in Ventura County with homes on/off the water like Seabridge Marina and Westport Marina. Enjoy the Oxnard Shores as well as Oxnard State Beach Park. Visit the US Navy Seabee Museum, open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM (closed on Sundays). And just outside the perimeter fence for the Naval CBC Port Hueneme/Naval Base Ventura County/NBVC. Private flights and flying course are available at Oxnard Airport which once took commercial flights prior to 2011. Elevate your mind at Oxnard College, a junior college, off that infamous Rose Ave. The Oxnard School District provides jobs to nearly 4K. The city of Oxnard as an entirety has over 53K in students, grades K through 12 at 54 different campuses. While very spread out compared to some parts of SoCal like Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, Coachella Valley or even parts of San Diego Oxnard has a lot to offer. More so being between the city of Ventura as well as Camarillo. Under 40 miles from Santa Barbara, by car or train, traffic pending. And less than an hour from the start of L.A. County in heading in the direction of Leo Carillo or Westlake Village/Agoura Hills. The Cinemark Century Riverpark and XD is the big movie theater, though the Plaza Stadium Cinemas 14 seems popular as well - their website is down but it still list things as showing... I'm not Oxnard expert in the slightest, but having ventured here more than a handful of times in the last two decades I've seen it blossom a bit. read more

It's #ThankYouThursday and I am so thankful my family chose this city to settle in. I grew up with such a diverse group of friends and have been able to enjoy foods from many cultures all my life. I don't just love the good eats but also the awesome views. Love the harbor, marina, awesome beaches and its people. All the festivals and events that are offered to the community. I love that I can write, call or message my councilmember and he will respond within hours. I have been given random acts of kindness multiple times by strangers at restaurants, coffee shops or simply by walking on the street. It's that type of love that makes me so thankful to be part of Oxnard and say it loud and proud. I have lived in Spain, SB, Washington D.C. but my heart is always in Oxnard. I am so happy with all the new things coming to town from the murals to the revamping of our harbor. Oxnard has a terrible reputation but its peoples resilience is what will continue to make it such a great place to live and thrive. read more

3 stars because i love my city but of course like everything in life it is flawed. We experienced an unprecedented amount of rain which caused floods and millions of dollars in damage to peoples personal property as-well as public property. My question is why does the city wait to react to these situations rather than prepare for them!Hypothetically speaking if the city woulda had measures in place to help avoid or limit flooding in the city like cleaning up rainstorms periodically (rain or shine) trash still clogs them regardless and don't get me started on the homeless encampments inside the "fenced" storm drains! They leave all their "STUFF" there which i assume clogged the run off and created all this mess we got to experience. i hope we as a city can take this as a lesson rather than loss and in the future we prepare better "Those who fail to prepare should prepare to fail!" read more

Oxnard has a lot going for it geographically--beaches, weather, and potential--but the city leadership continues to fall short. Services are inconsistent, communication is poor, and infrastructure is clearly neglected in many neighborhoods. The permitting process is a mess, and trying to get clear answers from staff is frustrating at best. It often feels like residents are an afterthought. There's also a noticeable lack of investment in public spaces outside of a few showcase areas. Oxnard deserves better, and it's disappointing to see such potential go to waste under ineffective management. read more

The City of Oxnard is a California Historic site. Before the adjacent HWY-101 was built, Pacific Coast Highway ran (STILL DOES) right through OXNARD. It merges with Saviers Road as you traveled either to Santa Barbara or to Santa Monica. On 'A' Street or on ANY street in the Downtown area, you can see historic buildings, much as they were in their heyday. I love the WOOLWORTH BUILDING, Amongst others. Seeing how far Oxnard has come in the past 10 years, I have to say I'm pretty impressed. I was vacationing in the area for 6 weeks from Florida and found tons of things to see as I biked around the city. People are definitely more laid back here than in Los Angeles. I recommend (re)discovering Downtown Oxnard, the Seabridge Community, Mandalay Beach and the Collection--just to name a few places that you should check out while you're here. There's still some ghetto areas that's not so safe to bike around in after dark (or any other time), but overall the City of Oxnard is just getting better and its got plenty of beach. 4-Stars read more

Horrible customer service in the Planning Department. We waited 20 minutes at the counteer before we were told we needed to sign in. There are no signs anywhere indicating this!! They were very short staffed and did not offer any apologies for the extremely long wait. There were maybe 3 people ahead of me in line and it took over one hour for my name to be called. I have been living in Oxnard since 2012 and the city has been improving year after year. There are different neighborhoods that cater to different demographics, speaking financially. There are affordable residential areas, mid-level affordable areas and expensive areas. For the most part the city is clean, but there are areas that can definitely use a facelift, so-to-speak. Seabreeze, Victoria Estates and Riverpark are excellent areas to live in. Over in Riverpark, you will find The Collection, which is an outdoor shopping mall with walkable streets. It is fairly new with tons of restaurants, such as The Yardhouse, Larsens Streak house, Maria's Italian Kitchen, etc. There is a huge movie theater and even a comedy house where A-list comics constantly perform every month. I am talking names, such as Marlon Wayans, George Lopez, Arsenio Hall, etc. Oxnard is not like it was 15 - 20 years ago. It is much different in terms of housing, cleanliness, attractions and even safety. The prices for rent around Riverpark for example runs $1900 1 bedroom up to $3200 for 3 bedrooms, so it is not a cheap area by any standards. I love living here. There are plenty people from different parts of the country who now lives here, so the demographics have and is still shifting towards a higher income/more educated demographics. Get in before you get priced-out. Oxnard is a great value for a coastal SoCal city, but it will not always be. read more

I've been born and raised in these streets and I wish I hadn't been. Love all my close friends and family members but the Mayors always suck and there doesn't seem to be any kind of interest but the damn strawberry festival which isn't even what it used to be. Cops are always assholes and people drive around like it's a racetrack. City was on of the worst voted cities in America for a reason I guess. 2 stars but I'd give 1 and a half if I could read more

I'm not the hugest fan of the Nard, but hey, I lived here for almost 2 years, and most of my time spent living here was positive for the most part. I lived in the El Rio west neighborhood, which is a nice area to live, for a decent price. If you have money to spend, Silverstrand or Oxnard Shores would be my go to. What I loved about this location was the fact I was close to the freeway! I never had the issue of "ugh, now I gotta drive 15 minutes to get on the freeway..." And the noise? I didn't mind it. This location is central to almost everything: the Collection is right across the street (but I never got to fully experience it at the time since it was still developing, so only the theater, target & Panera were open I believe.) It was fun walking across the street to go see a movie. Now I know how awesome this little location is, I don't have all the luxuries as I did in LA, I mean with everything right across the street. My other time spent living here was near Channel Islands beach. I didn't live right on the sand, but I was close to the water where I could hear seals sometimes at night! The drag here? Like I mentioned above, the freeway took almost 10 minutes to get to! My reason for 3 stars: Oxnard lacks nightlife. My boyfriend and I ventured out and tried Ruby's cafe, and it wasn't for us. The shopping is alright, but for the most part, you have to drive elsewhere like Camarillo. I also didn't like how people aren't very career driven here. There's not a ton of opportunity for photographers, so I ended up leaving the Nard. However if I'm driving through the area, and craving Chinese food, my go to is China Square near downtown. But one thing I loved about living here is the traffic, which was almost never a problem like LA. The only time there are jams are near rush hour, near and around the Oxnard Blvd exit. read more

This is a tale of two cities in one. Everything worth going to is in the North and the South is a wasteland of empty strip malls and homes that house up to 2 to 3 families each. Good luck finding parking in front of your residence. And if you need police to respond to a non-emergency call, then you will learn to give up before you try. The police will quickly train you to not bother them unless you are dying. Hell, they might not show up even if you are. Please don't get me started on the schools. I am shocked at the huge disparity between North and South and even more saddened that the city of Oxnard has allowed this to happen. read more

The City of Oxnard is a decent place to do stuff or live. It's got better areas, and some places I don't like to park my car in, but most cities have that to some extent. Close to/on the beach and with decent shopping. The new "Collection" shopping center offers upscale dining and brands, but still has a Target too. Two decent movie theaters, significant industry and some good local restaurants. Roads and freeways can get sort of awful, but we come here fairly often for dining, shopping and working. read more

Either the employees of the city don't care or are lazy , I have been trying to get them to fix lights over cross walks up pleasant valley Rd going on two years I've emailed,called ,and used their 311 issue reporting system with no repairs done . I can't say enough about their professionalism, efforts to help the community, and outgoing attitudes. They really do care about their town. If ever I had a question, I was promptly given help. This city is big and has a lot of people. There's a lot of nice stores and has some good restaurants. But there's only one draw back which is why I give it one star. The meter maids that patrol the area at night leave tickets on almost every parked car. Like if you park next to a tree .. they will see that as a violation and give you a ticket of well over $200. It's been frequently that these meter maids have been doing this so I did some investigating. Turns out that 90% of them are obese and they are hangry all the time. So to let out frustrations they take it out on citizens parked the city. We must be aware of this and help these large people out so they won't bring us into debt. So I send this message to leave out a Carl's Jr. hamburger or any type of food that a fat obese person would eat on the hood of your vehicle so when they come by they will see it and eat there special treat and then they won't be hangry so they pass inspection parking and won't give you a ticket. Let's end meter maid hunger one meal at a time. read more

The City has no help for senior citizens on a fixed income as far a utility bills. They have a terrible wesite for making payments. They can not make payment arrangements and are unwilling to work with you, even though I have already sent the payment through my bank they say they will disconnect my service because they don't have the payment. If they don't improve their website to make it easier to make payments, how can they disconnect service when I can prove I have already sent the payment through my bank? I get it, they want the $50 re-connection fee. read more
