I came here under the recommendation of a lawyer friend, after quitting a demeaning job of over 5 years that had no room for growth. First understand, this is not an easy process. I went in for an "interview" where I met with everyone from the receptionist to the owner. I was initially impressed at how warm and seemingly genuine everyone was. I clearly stated the fields I was interested in and the type of work I wanted. They told me they would revise my resume with a few jobs in mind, and I would hear back from them. They wanted to offer me a job with them which although was appealing for experience, was not something long term I wanted to get into and felt would interfere with my dream job. I applied to all available legal and admin jobs listed on their site. I even interviewed for a lawyers office that I thought went exceptionally well, especially considering how well prepared, dressed, and articulate I was compared to the girls much younger than myself that interviewed me (6 in total in 3 rounds). I was also offered a job that I had no interest in far away from where I live where traffic was horrendous and would take me over 2 hours round trip daily. Again, I stated these were not the positions I wanted unless they pertained to legal, admin, government or municipal employment. I had to email and call them over 2-4 times, which I have copies of. They were apologizing because they couldn't be bothered at the very least to call me and tell me if I was considered, employer wasn't interested in hiring, if they were still interviewing, etc. It's sad when you have an interview and don't hear back from them since you cannot directly deal with the employer-seems like they dropped the ball. For being out of work for almost 2 months, being more than well qualified for these jobs, and not hearing back after an interview for over one month since I had to send an e-mail asking what was going on.. I'm all set with dealing with such an unprofessional agency. I understand things happen, but I shouldn't have to hold your hand to request basic information. It makes me that much happier I didn't entertain an office assistant position with them, which seems to have a quick rotation in vacancy. I can't get a response after a month for an interview, but they want to call me last week about "another job opportunity." I've gotten this 4 times. Each time, it's either something I specifically don't want and no explanation as to what happened with the last job. For the resume they "edited" and I requested a copy of, they included NONE of my experience being self-employed, interning for a police department, or working for a senator, which seems to me would work well for legal jobs. I watched them right it down on a rough copy, which is interesting since it's nonexistent on the one they send out. Good luck to anyone that deals with them. I'm baffled by the 5 star reviews they have considering the lack of Linked-In traffic. I seriously doubt the credibility of this organization. I'd love to hear from anyone who has had success with other agencies if you could e-mail me :) To City Personnel...no need to respond to "You do everything you can..." in response to this review. I went to City Personel looking for assistance in finding employment. I met the owner and office manager for a position and ultimately was offered a job directly for City Personel. I spent the entire day (MLK day) with Dawn and her staff getting to know them, gaining an understanding of the position, and allowing them to get to know me. I will say that while I ultimately did not accept the position, I was so impressed by their office culture. Everyone worked well together; the owner was a class act, pure and simple. As a result, I continued my search and accepted a Marketing Specialist role with another company shortly after that. I wish I could give no stars for this staffing agency. I was looking to go back to work after having children. Dawn pushed and pushed for me to take a temp position. I told her a temp position wouldn't work for me Bc of my children... sick days were needed in case of emergencies. She insisted I apply Bc it was "a good fit" (they May hire permanently within 3-9 months) and told me she would give me the weekend. On that Monday I decided to at least give it a try and talk to the controller about really wanting a permanent position. (It wouldn't hurt to ask) I emailed Dawn back and said to submit my application and she asked if I could go in for an interview that Wednesday. I told her I could. She emailed me back shortly after to tell me they weren't interested anymore Bc I took too long to give an answer. This is after SHE TOLD ME to think about it over the weekend. I think she's poor at communicating and only looking after herself since she will obviously be getting paid from the companies her clients apply for. I would not recommend them at all. read more

I met with Dawn, the owner, for probably an hour. I've met with a lot of recruiters over the years, and Dawn is one of the good guys. She asks the right questions, you can tell she's genuinely invested in finding the right fit for you. it was explained to me that most of their positions are temp to perm. She sent me on one interview that on paper met all my requirements, but during the interview I realized it wasn't for me. I called the office and told them that on the drive home; they were fine w/that. A week later they sent me on another interview with a fabulous small company here in Providence. After temping for them for 16 weeks, I was offered a permanent position yesterday! The time frame is standard in the temping world....after XXX amount of hours they no longer have to pay the agency a fee to 'buy you out'. I don't want to negate other people's experiences (re the negative reviews here) but I've found there's a lot of negativity regarding agencies & recruiters. They won't always find you a position. Sometimes the right fit just doesn't cross their desk in the right time frame. I can think of 2-3 recruiters I've worked with over the years who never found me a position, but whom I'd highly recommend ....because they were a great resource for career advice....resumes, interviewing, etc. Amanda & Anna in the office were always available if I needed anything. Working with a recruiter does not mean you stop actively looking, it's just one more facet to your search, and if they find you something, great! They called me for a couple of jobs since then but it wasn't until late 2016 until I was placed in one. Ashley was super helpful and also quick to reply to my emails/calls. It has everything I told her I wanted in a job, from the great work atmosphere to the job description. One thing I can say..is my temp hours have been up for over a month. I haven't heard from dawn nor have I got hired as a perm yet.. HR at the job says it will be happening soon and they are just waiting for permission from the office headquarters overseas... a little feedback would be nice from city personnel or they should have told me about this in the beginning... Since the last review was from 2012, I thought I would write a more recent and fair review (read honest) about the service I received from City Personnel. As a job seeker, I found City Personnel to be professional, honest, and thorough. I was wary about using an employment agency, but City Personnel quickly quelled my worries. Although I applied to a position through Craigslist that they didn't end up placing me with (the ad was NOT marked as an employment agency ad), I still give City Personnel 5 stars. I made it clear that I only wanted permanent, full-time employment with full benefits, and an honest employer. The staff at City Personnel honored my request and didn't waste my time with temp, temp to perm, or otherwise unfavorable jobs. They also met my salary requirements and didn't present me with anything less. In addition, I noticed they offered meeting times before and after normal "business hours" of 9-5 for those who are currently employed, which is thoughtful. City Personnel has been thorough with their follow up with me, always calling/texting/e-mailing promptly with updates. I received a hand-written "congratulations" card when my employer offered me a position, which was a nice touch. My now-employer that City Personnel placed me with (an HONEST and ethical employer) has hired multiple employees using City Personnel and has nothing negative to say about their service. Seems as if they DO, in fact, have a pool of qualified candidates, and as a candidate myself, my references and candidacy were indeed verified. read more

This was the worst agency I have ever attempted to work with! I responded to an ad for a job that I was interested in. I met with Dawn and she discussed my goals, the job and future placement. Turns out the job was not hours that I was able to work but that did not stop her from trying to shove the job on me anyway. I have written emails and expressed interest in other jobs since then as I can work in more than one field based on my experiences. Emails have been completely ignored and phone calls not returned. It felt like because the one original job I responded was not a fit for me that they just said "forget him" for anything else. I had a good working relationship with CP but i've found them to not be as accommodating with finding full time positions that pay relatively well. they're great for part time work that pays slightly over minimum wage, but other agencies are much better at finding full time work with decent pay. read more

Very eager and professional company that wants to help consultants. Unfortunately, the bulk of their contracts are secretarial and or pay below market rate. When we moved to RI for my husband's job from out of state and I could not get an interview due to moving here and not knowing anyone (Yes, RI is that kind of state for job seekers). I originally had a great experience with city personnel. Then, things went south. I was placed in a job that turned out to be lackluster. It definitely seemed like Dawn rushed me into a position but I was happy to be working. After a few months I decided to leave the job I was having difficulty with it (my manager left for maternity leave 2 days after I started which may be why I wasn't trained properly). Anyway, I reached out to Dawn after leaving the original position and she straight up turned me down. Didn't even make an attempt. I would like to think of myself as a hard worker and valuable asset to any company and she just told me she couldn't help me. ALSO, I left a nice review originally because she asked me to and in return would send me a gift card. They never sent the gift card, not that I care but still, what a whack agency. ALSO, I happen to run into Dawn a year or so after the incident, I was in a parking lot and I moved a shopping cart out of the parking spot for her since I'm a nice person and she didn't even thank me. Just went into the store and pretended I didn't help her at all. Rude. Would not recommend. Overall not a good experience. read more

Recently, I decided to try this agency again after having no luck the first time I applied with them 2yrs ago. The first time I applied with them, I met with the owner a year ago. It was the rudest, most combative interview I had ever experienced. I chalked it up to a bad day but decided to go with another agency. Currently, I'm hoping to find a permanent position closer to my home. So, I decided to apply again to two positions that were not listed as temp to hire. I received an email from Allie who said that she had a position in mind for me and to give her a call. When I did, she was not available and I spoke with someone else who went over the questions Allie had and advised that Allie would contact me later. A week has gone by and I sent an email to Allie to follow up on the position mentioned. Her response indicated that the salary range I was looking for ($14,000/year less than the median for Providence) was unrealistic. She also indicated that, despite a number of years as an admin, that I lacked not only skill but also experience. If I were you, I would definitely look for a different agency. read more

I have had an overall good experience with city personnel. I submitted my resume through a CL ad and was contacted right away. I interviewed for two different job positions and went with the second. I have never been happier at a job placement, the company is amazing. However, initially when I interviewed I had specific guidelines to what I preferred in reference to a temp to hire position. City personnel assured me of a specific time frame but that was never honored. Their follow up to how your job placement is very minimal. None the less I have had a very pleasant experience. I can only suggest more involvement from recruiters and accuracy on job placement details. read more
