After working with some of your typical NYC brokers to find a new place, I got really lucky clicking on a place that seemed too good to be true. My gf and I were looking for a new place in the park slope/gowanus area and found a listing for a place right on 5th St right by the park. Turns out it was freshly listed and was actually supposed to be for 5th Ave. after being slightly heartbroken by that, I let Tarek know what our ideal place was. The ideal was a bit of a stretch for our price range and the neighborhood but it turns out he had one that almost got the bill perfectly (no w/d but you can't have it all). Tarek was great working out times that my gf and I could see the place and was not pushy at all, unlike the other brokers we had worked with at that point. After determining that this apartment really was amazing we submitted the application (50 bucks per applicant) and heard back within 24 hours with the good news. 2 days later we met with the landlord and signed all the paperwork to finalize it all. Although I ultimately did not rent the apartment Eddie showed me, I would absolutely recommend working with CitiNest! The toughest parts of apartment shopping in New York I've found to be (1) lack of transparency of fees and (2) lack of upfront measurements/floor plans of apartments. With CitiNest, the initial communication had the broker fee % stated and a link to a virtual tour allowing room measurements, alleviating both concerns. Because I was looking at apartments remotely, these pieces made the decision to see in person so much easier. Eddie was courteous via email, was flexible with my schedule, and showed me the apartment as soon as I got into town. He was not pushy - crazy rare - and was crystal clear about next steps. I ended up backing out of the application and was worried getting my deposit back would be a headache. I got the deposit back one day after asking!
