We had DeLeers come out to look at a small remodeling project. At the appointment, we discussed…read morebudget and ballpark estimates, and Brian felt confident we'd land roughly in the $20k range. He used phrases like "on the high side" and I can't imagine it being more than that," and made us feel assured that our budgeting was appropriate. Given that, we agreed to a deposit of $250 for him to go ahead with a formal quote, per company policy. When the proposal came back, it was $45K, which is more than double what we had discussed. While I understand that quality work and materials are costly, I don't understand how his verbal estimates were so grossly inaccurate, especially when he said he's been working there for 18 years. While I understand the deposit was intended to cover his time in gathering the estimates, and that he "doesn't work for free," a large part of his job is properly estimating potential costs for potential clients, and he did not do that. We agreed to the $250 deposit based on incredibly inaccurate numbers, and when I requested our deposit back, we were denied (twice.) While I don't think it was his intention to be deceptive, we felt swindled out of $250. I was very disappointed that they weren't willing to refund us.

But after I…read morequestioned the inappropriate behavior of his plaster guy, Chris called me ridiculous and basically ghosted us. He stared in May and was supposed to dine by beginning of June. The week before Memorial Day was the last time I saw him. He ignored my texts when I reached out, continually lied and said he couldn't come install anything because he was so busy. We were pushed off so many times. After 2 months of him not responding or telling me I was ridiculous (he did this twice), he finally came to install doors. He didn't finish the job, he left of door laying on the ground and other doors without knobs. I messaged him and he said it was because of the handles we chose...I'm not sure why he couldn't tell us this so we could pick out different handles. Overall he was really difficult to work with. He ignored my texts until I finally told him that we would have to hire someone else. I did let him know that we had exposed wires behind drywall that his plaster guy covered up. He covered several outlets, heating vent, aair return and receptacle for hard wired smoke detector. He didn't care and said he wasn't going to fix their mistake because we had said we would have to hire someone else to finish the job. He was well aware of the covered wires before we made the decision to hire someone else. Throughout the process he ridiculed the way my husband had completed work on the 2nd floor. Several times he also left a 16 year old alone at my house to finish the days job. I'm not sure that is even legal. And he was incredibly rude and picked on the 16 year old. He made fun of his weight and intelligence. It was really uncomfortable. I would never recommend him. We paid him 2/3 of the contract price and he did maybe half. And that half wasn't even done correctly as we are still fixing the mistakes he and his hired sub contractors made. Really a terrible experience and he was incredibly condescending and rude to his 16 year old helper and me when he decided he didn't want to do the job anymore.
