I love this place and would die for the bartenders. Amazing establishment. If you don't like it, you're the problem.

The place is a classic. It has been in Rutland, owned and operated by the same guy (CJ) for 35 years. Sure, some things change and mercifully, the went through a complete rehab about 2 years ago. It used to be a bit on the scary side, not only with the clientele but the interior itself. It has mellowed a bit with age and now it's clean, well lit and even serves decent food. But let's call a spade a spade. It's a drinking establishment. The Jaeger tap machine is a pretty good give away on that front. I always try to stop in whenever I am in Rutland. CJ`s is a great neighborhood bar with a wonderful menu that's prepared fresh and cooked to order. The Tuesday night karaoke, lead by the delightful Tiffany Z, 9-1AM, is always great fun. We're here in Rutland for the first time, our tour guide recommends the Steakhouse next to the Hotel. Checked out the Menu and the pricing was 35 to 40 dollars for a steak. More than we wanted to pay for a light dinner. Walked across the track to CJ's and had a great Burger and fries. There was 9 of us. Candy was the great Lady that waited on us and the bar and cooked. We don't make it up to Rutland often, and most of the places we used to eat at have closed. On our arrival last year we looked for a place for a nice dinner close to our hotel, and the place close by wanted $35-40 for a steak. CJ's was almost next door. Had steak and fries for half the price, tasted great, waitress/bartender/cook was super nice. It isn't so much that we couldn't have afforded the "fancier" place, but our needs were met, and we went back for a repeat this year. Keep in mind it was early in the evening, might get a little loud later. Don't know, just enjoyed our meal and left. read more

I've lived in town over 50 years and finally decided to give CJs a try after reading about the place on Yelp. Saturday at 11:00AM. Went for lunch with my son who had been there a few times before. The burgers and fries were quite good and sitting by the "fireplace" on a cold, damp day was great, too. Waitress was wonderful. Nice interior and would definitely go again! CJ is more concerned with making the almighty dollar than he does about his clientelle. CJ himself came out and yelled at a patron for being concerned about an overly served man, and suggested he take a cab, or let someone drive him home. What did this good samaritan get for her concern? CJ not only gave her crap about it, but filled a Petition of No Trespass to the concerned party. NICE! Shame on you CJ. read more

Having stopped in here at 11am on a Sunday a few weeks ago, I can't really comment on all aspects of this bar. After seeing it for many, many years on trips up to VT, my friends and I finally decided to stop by. I was impressed that they were open so early on a Sunday. The place was clean and had a nice setup with separate seating and pool/games areas. The bartender was great, the beers were cheap, and the draft selection was not bad (Naty Light on draft was defeated by switchback brewing and sam adams winter, and the lines seemed to be pretty clean too). Sucks , not a real bar met up with a couple friends , literally had 4 drinks kept to ourselves and got cut off. We also made it known we we were staying at the hotel next door and not driving. No wonder local bars cant make it anymore read more

CJ's Suds South not only has the best bartenders in Rutland. There drinks are great and resonable priced. Had a bacon cheese burger that had an excellent flavor, the handcut french fries are absolutely delicious. The hot tall bartender I believe her name was Jen suggested that I try the fries with Balsamic Vinegar OMG they were awesome. read more

Great place to go after a day of skiing or riding. Food is good service was great and the staff where amazing. Prices where very reasonable and the music was also great. would certainly go back if I am in the area. read more

They take your money but you cant have a good time people do get drunk but they take your money then kick you out. It is suppose to be a bar right? I like to see what the bartender's do when their out partying???Big 0 for rating. read more
