We love going to CK's when we have time and are in the area. Today was a bit of a different experience. It was busy, but not crazy busy. We felt very rushed. We received appetizer plates and the plate on the very top had old food on it so that should have been noticed by the server and not given to us. Then we had a dinner plate taken when the person was almost finished, but not quite. Items were taken so quickly and more than once. It was odd. I rarely write negative reviews, but our experience here was extremely disappointing. My husband and I visited this restaurant tonight and were met with blatant rudeness from the bartender, Sam. She was blunt, impatient, and consistently disrespectful, not just to us, but to other customers and even the staff. I wouldn't be surprised if several other reviews were written based off of her behavior tonight, I've never experienced anything like it. The service completely overshadowed the dining experience. It's hard to enjoy a meal when the person serving you is outright rude and disrespectful for no reason. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place based on how poorly we were treated. Happy Fall! This was my first time at this restaurant, it has really great word of mouth reviews and I can see why. We had a large party for COVID times and they were able to seat us no problem even though they don't accept reservations. Everyone was happy with what they ordered even the fussy people. I ordered the shrimp tacos with the seafood-inspired sauce. For appetizers, we had the Top Shelf Guacamole and mild wings. The wings had honey in the sauce, so it was a nice balance with the zing. The guacamole was good with plenty of chips. They had a couple of martinis on special along with a pumpkin sangria. CK's has a nice draft beer selection for beer drinkers. Oh my word. So bad. The sangria tastes like boxed Franzia. The meat is flavorless and chewy. I ordered the burrito bowl and it was inedible. Liquid bean goo down one side and questionable boiled beef hidden under over cooked rice. The server was kind and attentive. We enjoy CK's, but it's important to know it's not really "authentic" Mexican food. It's definitely an Americanized version, but we're fine with that. The dip sampler is a good appetizer - guac is awesome, and so is their pico. Chicken enchiladas with verde sauce are delicious. Sauce is tasty but not spicy, which is perfect for me. My husband adds hot sauce to kick them up a notch. Rice and beans are okay - nothing special, very plain, and beans are very mashed, almost like a paste, but I like that. Burritos are huge and delicious. Fajitas are served sizzling with a rather large portion, and they're great. Hard and soft tacos are both good. We've tried all four meats and prefer the beef or steak, but that's a preference call. We haven't made it to dessert yet, and we typically have leftovers to take home, which again is fine with us. Coming from LA I was bound to be disappointed since the Mexican is SO good here. Anyway, it wasn't bad for the area, very fast food-ish, very fatty, little taste. I had the burrito and it was OK, bland tortilla, bland steak, basically it was all pretty bland, that was the main issue, I think it just needed more taste. We have a certain idea of what a really authentic and good fish taco should be like, and we haven't found anything great in our area, yet. CKs had two different type on the menu. One was a premium fish taco that allegedly had a better fish And it was a bit higher priced. We both decided to try it. They were, OK, in retrospect I would have liked to have ordered one premium and one regular and compare the difference. My biggest complaint was that the meal was not served hot enough. So sad.. it's a good restaurant and everyone knows it's hard to get good wait staff but CK's is hiring the bottom of the barrel. I was in town over Easter and it was subpar waitstaff at the bar and I was in there recently when I was in town and it was 10 times worse! I went in around 2:00 for lunch and they weren't busy at all, I was the only one at the bar my food took a half an hour and normally my food comes out in like 5 or 10 minutes. I think the bartender just didn't go back to the kitchen to see if it was ready. Then she never asked if everything was okay or if I needed anything after she brought my food, she never asked if I wanted another drink and just gave me my check. She's lucky she even got a tip. CK's management and owners you need to do better and tell your lazy wait staff they need to do their job.. they aren't getting paid to to chat with her co-workers when those people sitting at the bar. I mentioned to another bar staff at a nearby establishment how horrible their customer service is and she said she's been hearing that quite a bit lately also. When I told my sister, who is a student at Misericordia, that I was coming to visit her she said that we had to go to CK's. Apparently she brings everyone who comes to visit her to this place and all of her roommates do the same. We came here around 7:30 on Friday and while there was a wait, we did not have to wait long. The mixed crowd showed that this place was a local fave. Bottomless chips & salsa for the table are a must so we placed that order right away with a few sangrias. When the sangrias came out and my eyes lit up, they were served in huge mason jars! The pineapple sangria was soo good. I could have just sat there and kept drinking them as I ordered refills on the chips, but since we had plans for after dinner I had to control myself. For dinner I ordered the veggie burrito bowl - I loved it. The burrito was served in a huge fried tortilla bowl so it was like eating out of a giant chip. The veggies were perfectly cooked zucchinis, mushrooms, peppers and onions. The bowl was filled to the top with the rice, refried beans, cheese and veggies then partnered with sour cream and salsa. I can see why my sister chooses to eat here every week because I am still thinking about how nicely those veggies were cooked. Yum! read more
