Almost two years since my last review and this place still has some great Mexican food! On my most recent visit I went with the (ginormous) steak nachos and Birria tacos. I was not disappointed. El Torito Blanco is another good spot in NEPA for authentic Mexican food. It's definitely taqueria style so if you're looking for a fancy restaurant with a mariachi band, this isn't your place. However, if you looking for good Mexican food with a simple, straightforward menu, this is a fantastic option. They serve standard taqueria items: tacos, tortas, burritos, nachos and the like. This place was my go to spot when I first moved in the area, but sad I am to say it has fallen. The food was amazing and service was excellent at that time. Food now is lack luster at best, service is reapectful yet not attentive. I got a chicken burrito,which I have had on numerous occasions and was my favorite, and received what can only be described as the under inflated baby brother of the burrito of the past. It more rice than anything and it was almost half the size and almost 1.5x the price. Flavorless rice with chicken bits and lettuce. What in all that is good and holy happened to the gargantuan size tortilla wrapped around juicy chicken, flavor filled rice, beans, lettuce and tomatoes smothered in a melted white cheese. What I got was a Fisher Price my first meal and I hope the chef finds a better recipe book or at least a real chef to follow on YouTube cause this meal was not up to par. Also the refried beans they served my wife looked and tasted like the just opened a can added a ton of water and slopped in on her plate, bland and watery is how she described them. I have never seen refried beans swimming in a thin flavorless sauce like that. read more

FINALLY, an authentic and GREAT TASTING Mexican restaurant in this area. We've tried multiple Mexican restaurants in the Scranton -Wilkes-Barre area over the last few years with subpar outcomes at best. This place may not look like much from the outside, but it's easy to find, has a parking lot, and great prices. We've tried the quesadillas, tostadas, Elotes, and tacos - ALL amazing. The green sauce and the avocado sauce is a must try. Not too spicy and very tasty- definitely approved by Angs' non spicy handling palate. Literally, nothing missed. I don't even know what else to say. The staff is pretty cool too. Very good indoor dining experience - quick and attentive. No issues experienced there. The only downside is the wait time for pick-ups. Depending on the size of your order, you'll likely be waiting 20+ minutes for your order to be ready. Not bad really as long as you're not in a rush. Again, this is probably the best Mexican restaurant in the area. A definite must try. We'll be updating this with more pictures for sure. read more

Another place we were meaning to try and didn't get around to it. Oh boy once we did we cannot eat any other Mexican food in NEPA. I think since trying is on 5/30 we have ordered it 8 times. Another awesome food find. My family is traveling back from Spring break vacation coming through Wilkes Barre toward Connecticut. This is a authentic Mexican restaurant hidden in a strip mall. Their portions are huge. The food is freshly made on premises. Excellent homemade tortilla chips and sauce. We had shrimp tostadas, a chicken burrito and a veggie burrito. This place is like a hidden gem! I'll eat at places like Chipotle, but often what I really want is legit, authentic Mexican food, and it's hard to find. That's what you get here! They are good at accommodating my mom's seafood allergy, which is awesome. The burritos are gigantic! The tacos are my new favorite item on the menu - I ordered the pollo (chicken) with the additional toppings, and I was blown away at the presentation and taste. My mom said the flan was the best she's had in her life. Salsas have a lot of kick, even the mild! Guacamole is soooooo fresh and delicious, and the chips rock. As a person that grew up in California and Hispanic I would never call their Caldo de Res anything but a sopa casera. None of the ingredients or color are what a Caldo should be. Never again. Pay no attention to what Yelp says the hours are. I'm glad I didn't I wouldn't have gone. They are open from 11-11 most days I got 2 chicken and 2 steak tacos and struggled to finish them. We were in town for a show and went for dinner here, based on the 5 star Yelp rating. Very disappointed! The sides were cold, the meat overcooked. My husband loves Molcajete, so was excited that it was on the menu, but not so excited that it was lukewarm and one of the meats was hot dogs! The homemade tortillas were good.
