The drive to the test location took longer than the actual test itself. multiple lines with knowledgeable texts who are friendly. you need to bring your registration, id, insurance card. The test takes about 2-5 minutes. If you pass you pay a $25 test fee and the registration fee and you will receive your tags. Super easy, super quick, painful on the wallet. This will always be my go to place for car registration. read more

It only shows one lane, half of another, none of the other or the equally long wraparound line going up to the check-in station, let alone another line of cars out on the street waiting to get in line. The online website cameras are a smart idea to show current business levels. There were only 2 cars already there and the screener gave me an empty lane and I pulled right in. The guy doing the test today was fine and helpful. Sometimes you'll get one that is neither. I wanted new month license stickers, one was sun faded, but they only have the yearly stickers, and he told me to go online and order them for free. It was exactly as he said. The DEQ test only took a few minutes. Check the online cameras before you go, folks. I wish all of us were better informed about the OREGON e GO program. This is for electric and high MPG vehicles. The DEQ tester cannot give specifics about this, of course. It's probably a good idea, but naturally poorly communicated. I wrote a review about this with my nearest DMV office. I restore cars and have to go to the DEQ quite often. I have always been very pleased with the speed and efficiency of this location. Even if I get here and there is a long line, things move quite quickly. The staff are always very friendly. These people are very busy, and manage to have a pleasant attitude and get me in and out in about 3 minutes once its my turn. You can also pay and receive your tags here, just make sure to bring your insurance and DMV form . Highly recommended. read more

I went to the Clackamas DEQ station tonight and had a shocking and horrible experience. I pulled up, waited a couple minutes, then parked and got their attention. When I pulled in, I was then verbally accosted by the female employee. I was harassed, yelled at, threatened and then refused service for no clear reason. Luckily the man working helped me, offering support and did my emissions test. As someone that has worked in plenty of service jobs, this was totally out of line and un-called for. Very unprofessional, insensitive, and straight up aggressive! I am still just confused. Thankfully the male employee apologized for her (so this must be a regular thing?). Just moved to Oregon. Went to the DMV to get license and was told I have to take my car to DEQ for emissions test. Ok. Well a $25.00 fee for this. I guess it's fine but never had to do this before. With all the beaters driving around the Portland area, I can't imagine they would pass Oh well. It is what it is. read more

I did it all wrong. The DMV suggests you visit the DEQ on Thursday or Friday near the end of the month for shorter lines. So, of course I visited on April 1st, a Tuesday, around 9:00a. A scenario that seemed ripe for frustration, was practically effortless. All of my prior visits have been to the Sherwood location, but I'm sold on Clackamas after this experience. Multiple lanes and they take two cars at a time in each lane, so my wait was shorter than expected. You have a quick check-in and are directed to a lane where you hand over your paperwork (filled out ahead of time, of course) and pay your DEQ and vehicle registration with mastercard, visa or debit card (no American Express or checks). Just moments later, you are good to go for another two years. --------- They weren't monkeying around, but my son sure was today. He hid bananas in my car (I'm totally banana phobic) as a lovely April Fool's Day prank. I wonder what the employee thought about seeing a banana under my seat? Yea I know it's DEQ and it's burden for all to get new tags every couple of years. Yet all the years I have gone here, I hardly have to wait. It is true what other reviewers have said, this is definitely one of the best places to get checked. I am usually in and out within minutes and the staff is on top of their game. The lines go by very fast and even in the afternoon, it has been a breeze. One time I didn't pass because of engine light failure. They were pretty quick and efficient to me know what to do and how to take care of the problem. Within a week later after the problem was solved, I had no line to deal with again and I passed within a minute testing. So yea, whenever you need new tags, this location is the most hassle and stress free, promise! read more

So to start with, it's been about a kazillion years since I had to have a car tested in America for emissions. I mean, seriously, that was over 17 years ago... So it was with a bit of trepidation that I headed over to the DEQ because I thought I first had to get my car tested and then send in the paperwork. I had filled in the back of the papers sent to me, read the directions, and that was how it stuck in my mind. I also remember reading the part about not being able to use a credit card with a pin -- which is exactly what mine was. And I knew the DEQ was supposed to cost $21 to do the testing, and that much cash I had with me. Bear with me. I drive up to the place my GoogleMaps took me, out here in Clackamas where I only go to the Target because I have my granddaughter with me and the Target downtown, though nice, does not have the home section this one does, so to make this more clear, to a far-away place (40 minutes driving is 'far' for a Dutch person, generally speaking, as Holland is only 4 hours driving wide and 8 long, not including any traffic jams ;0). I did pick a Wednesday morning, not the one they suggested in the letter but I was 'more in the neighborhood'. Drive up and NO LINE. Not one person, I think I was the second car that morning. I was directed to Lane 4, went there, parked, left the car in neutral, the nice test person hooked my car up, and not 5 minutes later, done! No double checking my insurance card, no asking for my car papers (requirement in NL), just plain and simple. What I did not know, this test person turns around and says the bill is $$ -- including the $$ I owed in tags, oopsies! I was not really ready for that, so I sneaked my credit card in (pin and all) and crossing my fingers, it worked!! Glued those yellow stickers on and badaboom, DONE: for the next 2 years. Honestly had a really terrible experience here yesterday. I recently brought my new car through for a smog test and later found out that a VIN inspection wasn't done, so in order to get my plates mailed to me I needed to return and get that done. I get there yesterday and explain my situation the the guy working outside at the entrance and he tells me I pretty much have to go to DMV to do this or pay to go through DEQ again, so he sent me to the office to talk to someone. I walk into the office and there are two guys in there who go "what can we do for you" I said "well I'm supposed to be meeting a someone in the office to talk about my issue" and they go "ok well we're the office" in a rude way (that alone made me just want to walk out) they just had terrible attitudes, talked to me like I was an idiot, and quite frankly were just extremely rude and unhelpful. read more

Government agencies typically get a bum rap and usually for valid reasons--- long lines, rude workers, bureaucratic red tape, yadda yadda yadda. The Clackamas DEQ DEFIES this stereotype. I arrived at 8:20 am. They don't open until 8:30, but you could see all the bays open and the inspectors readying their stations. At 8:29 am, the first car was waived in (in all 5 bays!). I was second in line in Bay #3. At 8:35, I was driving away but not without the following happening first: 1. I was greeted warmly and my door was opened for me with a "Miss, please exit the car and enter the waiting room directly through that door." 2. While I entered the little room next to my car, the inspector did his "inspecting stuff" of the car emissions. 3. He entered the waiting area, took my paperwork, punched a few keys on the computer. Swiped my debit card. 4. Handed me my car registration, my new license plate tags and with a smile said, "I hope you have a wonderful day." If his shirt had anything more than the DEQ Inspector embroidered on it, I would have thought his name was "STATE WORKER OF THE YEAR." Thanks you DEQ Man. read more

This place is so organized! I arrived about 30 minutes early on a weekday and, per the instructions at the gate, pulled into the first position in Bay 3. It was very quiet and clean but no humans were in sight . . . At about 8:20, staff started coming out and heading toward their positions and setting up. Promptly at 8:30, they all waved cars in to get processed. THREE MINUTES LATER, I was leaving with my tags. I don't know if they all function this smoothly but, if they do, then the U.S. Post Office could benefit from their training. read more

We had to renew our car registration and get our car emissions tested. I was bracing myself for a terrible experience, but thankfully, that's not what happened here. We were able to just drive up to the first available teller, they tested the car, and then we just paid for everything. They were even able to finish the car renewal process and give you your new tags (no trip to the DMV required)! All of this happened within the time span of maybe 10 mins. Easy peasy. Went on a Saturday morning, arriving at station at 8:15, fifteen minutes before opening, number four In my lane. Glad I arrived slightly early, because by the time I left, there was a very, very long line. Three of four lanes were open and all three opened spot on at 8:30. The three cars in front of me were done quite fast and I was entirely done at a staggeringly fast 8:41. With new two-year stickers, license renewal and DEQ charge, I paid $133. Expensive, but the DEQ was extremely efficient and the man that did my car was enjoyable to work with for the (literally) three minutes we spent there. Few are ever impressed by a government experience, but I was. Made the required annoyance pretty easy to swallow. read more

After realizing nobody could help a deq employee named Charles, who I believe to be the shift manager, helped me push my car out of the line. The lines were short got done quickly. However the young boy running lane 2 was a complete jerk talk down to me and you can tell either hates his job or hates women he totally treated me like crap.
