There are two sides of the dog park - big dogs and small dogs. There is plenty of shade and lots of parking. The only downside is that people don't always pick up after their pets and sometimes they put big dogs in the small dog area and vice versa. Honestly a great, low-key dog park. It's shady and good size. They have a smaller section and a big dog section. It's never usually too packed. I have found .myself visiting this pooch park more often than the others in the area. Saturday and Sunday is usually the most busy but overall it's nice and you can use the benches to sit on. They also have water stations. My favorite part is that it is super shaded. Although you do have to walk a bit from the parking lot to get to the smaller section, it is still not bad considering all the trees and size of the park. read more

Poorly maintained, Since the poop bag dispensers were removed and now seems there are people who are not picking up their dog's messes. Leaking sprinklers, pools of water/mud, Grass poorly maintained even when the City closes it for a month (especially this last time) nothing was done and the drinking fountains for the Dogs and Humans rarely work. Some of the benches are rusting and deteriorated Very sad for a city that has many dog owners. I called about the removal of the poop bags and was told that is was to save money...... really? The Good: Its pleasant, secluded and relatively well kempt. Not a whole lot of shade so it can get pretty hot. The Bad: People. Some people don't monitor their dogs and bring their aggressive pets. This park is so big and has a lot of people coming here so it's nice to have your dog socialize. The water fountains don't seem to work so make sure to bring some for your pup! They also do not have any doggy bags so make sure to bring those as well! Also be aware that some owners don't pick up after their dogs so watch where you step. Decent space but there are many dog owners here who have no interest in other dogs playing with their dogs and get upset when dogs make dog noises like barking and growling while playing. Recently a couple with two large poodles got mad that our dog kept chasing after their ball and then tackled our dog when he barked at their dog. Luckily our dog was fine and we left. We live close to here and have gone many times but every time we're here, we get the "you don't belong here" vibe from the other regulars...it's one of the worst I've ever experienced in a park. We like to bring our pup here but there's lots of poop everywhere which is gnarly. I would say that it feels like a safe park in a safe area. There is a separate area for small dogs and a bigger area for big dogs. I've seen lots of owners bring their little ones into the big dog lot and I just am so fearful for their little ones. I've seen elderly little dogs and small pug mixes there and I just feel like it's an accident waiting to happen. The park is great for our pup who is huge and loves to run, Socialize and play. There are occasional dog owners/parents who don't keep a close eye on their reactive dogs so I would say, pay attention to your pup. Last time we were there, there was a highly reactive dog, growling at other dogs, who chased our pup and growled at him and me. The owner came to say he meant nothing by his growling and that it was friendly competition. No sir, that was a guttural, aggressive, angry growl that was continuous and never ending. We left after our pup snapped at him to warn him to get away and the dog kept getting more and more bold with his aggression and appeared to want to attack. The park cleared shortly afterwards. This isn't the best park around, but it's still a place I'll go to when San Dimas is closed because of rain. The people there were very friendly, and the dogs were okay too. A couple of them tended to be a bit too aggressive, but the easiest solution to that problem is to stick near your dog. Because even if your dog isn't being the aggressive one you'll at least be there to step in if something goes a bit awry. I noticed the low fences, but didn't worry too much about them. My dog isn't much of a jumper or a runner. If your dog is then stay close to them or don't take them. Was a bit disappointed the grass was patchy and there was tons of mud, but what do you expect when it rains the day before? My biggest issue? There was tons of dog poop around. I saw a few owners cleaning up after their dogs, but obviously there's more than a few who aren't. Poop there ranged from super old to super fresh. As I cleaned up after my dog I did my best to clean up any other poop in the surrounding areas. read more

I have been carefully trained to make sure the dogs that I have do not associate with other dogs, because I have to treat every dog as a threat. It is hard when the dog wants to just be friends with other dogs. My heart breaks when two dogs become acquainted with one another. It seems this job is right for me haha. This dog park really brings out the joy in the dogs I bring. They are all puppies no matter how old they are. The only dog that did not seem to enjoy this was a 1 year-old tiny Dachshund dog, I hope the walks here can regain his confidence through time! Man I would honestly walk dogs for free if they are as cute the Dachshund haha - Please vaccinate your dogs before you arrive! There have been a few altercations I have witnessed in the past month and it was saddening to see. I do hope the dogs were alright. Make sure you know your dogs telltale signs when they are in aggressive state. They might seem they are playing around, but holy mackerel sometimes it is not what it seems. read more

I came here this afternoon with my husband and our 3 dogs to give them a different change of scenery from the usual dog parks we frequent. Well I was a little bit disappointed because this park seems smaller than other dog parks (Pasadena's dog park & Long Beach is definitely tops in my book),. Also this park has more dirt than grass. I was also not thrilled to see the low fence surrounding the park. Honestly, low fencing could be a problem for dogs that love to jump. Anyways, like all other dog parks that I have been to, there is 2 sides of the park. But when we came, dogs of all sizes were in the larger park of the dog park. There are a few water fountains here (I did remember seeing 1 in the other part of the dog park), dog bag dispensers (1 in the other part of the dog park too) and a metal scooper pooper (and yes, 1 in the other part of the dog park). While walking around the larger part of the dog park, I saw some poop here and there, which makes me think that some owners are not nearly as responsive to pick up their dog's business than others at other dog parks I frequent. But one great thing about this dog park is that it is quite shady and there is also this large blue covering/ tent covering thing that provides plenty of shade from the sun. There is a parking lot right next to the dog park (which seems to share the parking lot with a baseball field... also this dog park is right behind the Metro railroad tracks). By the way, when we came in the afternoon today, there were about 6 or 7 other dogs there in case you wanted to get a feel for the number of dogs are there in the afternoon (around 1-2 pm). I wasn't terribly impressed with this dog park and is definitely not worth a drive to come here, when there are better dog parks. But at least it got the job done of allowing our dogs to run around and meet other 4 legged buddies. I am pretty sure I wouldn't be coming back here. read more

We went to this dog park for the first time last week and had a great time. This was my dog, Luna's first time at any dog park and everything went great. I was a little worried at first since the fence seemed a little low, and could probably be jumped by a bigger dog. My dog is an American Staffordshire terrier mix and is about 40 lbs but is kind of short, and could put her paws at the top of the fence. There is both a big dog and little dog side. The park seemed mostly clean and there was plenty of benches to sit at. We will definitely come back to this park! read more

I have been taking my boxer here in the evenings for almost a year now. She's loves it. She has her group of friends that she loves to play with..but it always happy to meet new friends that seem to appear each evening. Every once in awhile there is a not so friendly pup that shows up but...no real issues. They are dogs, and are not all going to get along all of the time lol..get over it lol. This dog park is nice with nice dogs and nice owners. There are a couple "regulars" who fell like they own the joint. Today I brought my 6 month old pup for the 5-7th time over the last couple of weeks. She is very socialized, with countless dogs, kids, and adults since I got her at 8 weeks old. And the other 4 large breed dogs in the park I have seen there before and we're playing as usual. Also in the big dog park were some little dogs. A 2 year old boxer came in the park and was playing, one of the little dog owners felt all the dogs were playing to hard with her dog and leashed and picked up the dog. Well the boxer a jumper by nature was jumping after the dog she kept putting the dog higher and higher and a panicked state. Making the boxer jump higher and higher. I have been bringing my dog Xander here for the last few weeks. The park itself is really nice. It's split into a big dog section, which has lots of benches and a track that goes around the perimeter, and a little dogs section (where we stay), that has 3 benches, a picnic table, and a smaller track. It also has a water fountain (for you and your pup!) and a poop station equipped with bags and a trash bin with a lid. The center has grass, which is patchy in some areas... but hello.. dogs run and dig and you can't honestly expect it to be perfect. The parking is easy and free and there's always just enough dogs to make things fun without being overcrowded. As with any dog park, the real issues come from irresponsible owners. 95% of the people we've met at our afternoons here are great. They watch their dogs, we watch ours, we get to play with so many cute dogs and it's great. I've only had an issue with one particular large poodle. His owners unfortunately don't keep up with him and every single time he ends up pinning my 20lbs dog down and biting him. There is a reason the park is separated. Some bigger dogs are totally fine on both sides, but others are just too aggressive and it can become dangerous when the aggressor is 4 or 5 times larger than the dog being attacked. I 100% recommend this park though and completely appreciate the volunteers who help keep it nice and bring toys. :) read more

This park definitely needs some love and attention. Pros: lots of room for lil pooches to run around and play. Parking was not an issue for us. There are water bowls around. As far as the grass area it's definitely run down and old. Theres mud everywhere which I didn't mind stepping in but theres also poop everywhere which i did mind stepping in. No one picks up after their dog here it seems because there was poop EVERYWHERE. Watch out and please don't be one of those dog parents that leaves poop on the floor. As far as the crowd here, very rough. My dog and i are very social and we tried saying hi to the locals here and seemed like they didn't want anything to do with me or my dog. They seemed bothered that my dog wanted to play with their dog. And it was really sad to watch.Not a very friendly crowd. I think with a little bit of love and attention and clean up this could be a great park but we definitely wont be coming back. read more

Multiple benches in different areas in the large park side with a shaded spot. Has plenty of shade so you're not in the sun. Cons Park looks a bit dirty Smells like urine a lot in some areas Neutral Not as many playful dogs (can be good or bad depends on your preference ) Random balls everywhere, can be used for you instead of bringing your own(also can be good or bad) personally looks messy with them everywhere but also can be used. If you have the time to go to a better park, I would. But if it's close to you, it's a convenience. The fences are not very high and there's a regular that often hops the fence, so if your dog is a jumper, keep your eyes on him/her. I agree with the others that nobody seems to mind the little dogs in the big dog area, but it is definitely sparse on grass. Just FYI, I heard from a local business owner that this park may get lost to apartment development. Might just a be a rumor, but I'd rather have a so-so dog park than none at all. read more

City makes no effort to enforce own rules at this dog park. For example, rule that dogs must be under voice control is ignored and large packs of dogs chase each other swiftly around the park. VERY COMMON FOR FOLKS TO BE KNOCKED DOWN BY THESE PACKS SO STAY CLOSE TO THE FENCE SO YOU CAN'T BE HIT FROM BEHIND. No one told be this and I was hit from behind, trampled on my face and leg broken. First dog park I've ever been to which is exciting! They have one area closed off by gates for small dogs and another larger area closed off for bigger dogs which is nice. There's picnic tables to sit on near the entrance and benches lined around the perimeter (only a few are in the shade so I try and go when it's not too hot or when I think there might not be a lot of people there). There's some trees and water fountains and trash cans with little poop bags attached to them. I think the park is a decent size for dogs to run around in and socialize! My dog is always super nervous around other people and dogs but she is usually always okay when we come here. The past couple times I've gone, it hasn't been crowded (I go between 10:30AM and 11:30AM). Since it's in Claremont I don't think it probably ever gets "crowded". It's becoming one of my favorite places to go! read more

Every time we take Nero (possible new name "Joxer") out to a dog park, people feel they have to comment on his balls. Yes, he's my Uncle's dog, we're working on it! Deal!! We found ourselves out in Claremont to drop off our taxes and we took the boy with us thinking we could walk him at the Botanical Garden there. No dogs allowed say they, but a nice women in the botanical parking lot said that lo and behold there WAS a dog park near. (Tip when searching for Dog Parks on Yelp, search for (Parks for dogs). It will yield more results. Claremont Pooch Park is a nice respite for your pooch pal. Located near a baseball diamond, and the Metro station, it makes a perfect pit stop for your pit, poodle, or pomeranian. You see, they have a large grass area for large dogs, but small dogs are welcome too, and then there is a decent sized area for smaller breeds or anyone who might feel "uncomfortable" in the main section. The rules are pliable. Parking is particularly pleasant and it's just a short stroll to the pooch parade. If you are in Claremont, this may be the only game in town. Let your kid off the leash and (s)he'll have the grandest of times socializing with its ilk. Your dog can really stretch out here, it's large enough for that. You can rest your buttocks on one of the unusually tall and skinny benches here. When the kid is tired you can drive around in this college town and find a nice place to eat. You can leave the him in the car, but there are plenty of local eateries in the area where he can rest under a table while you chow down. Amenities: Free bags (take a few for the road) and a doggie drinking fountain. Note: the unusually low fences bordering the park's perimeter had me perplexed, but kind of like cow grates, the dogs just don't care to cross the line. And to the lady who was scared at our sweet baby 65lb pit bull...I feel ya, but when I told you he wouldn't hurt a fly, you didn't have to say, "Well he's just got big balls." I leashed up Romeo and Juliet and met some friends at this pooch park over the weekend. My dogs were pooch park virgins and I was worried they would act the fool, so I eased them in and gave them a lot of reassuring pets. This lady had a dog who was so ridiculously nice and obnoxious, but it just was not getting my dog's DO NOT WANT signals. I smiled and moved to the empty small dog side to give my dogs the chance to acclimate, I was so glad it was there! My dogs were easily pleased and within minutes they started to make friends. The place was mostly dirt and my dogs got really dirty, there was a lot of brush and loose debris, and the fences on the small dog side looked easily escapable. We had fun and would go back, my dogs were mighty impressed but I mean they're not the brightest crayons in the box. read more
