I have been here twice, and received excellent service each time. Usually I go to the local hardware stores, Adler's (also a lovely place), to get keys duplicated, but this summer we needed a deadbolt replaced. The people at Clark's gave us the information we needed to make an informed choice (including making sure it matched our other hardware). This week, for reasons(aka drama) unrelated to the quality of the deadbolt, I was going to replace everything on the door. I was perfectly ready not just to buy a bunch of new stuff, but to upgrade on what I previously had bought. The staff at Clark's asked me questions, and then convinced me to spend _less_ money that I previously intended. What I needed for my peace of mind was actually a small fix that they could do in an afternoon. I brought in my existing deadbolt, they made it fit a new key. Then they checked that each new key worked and that the old one did not. I ended up spending about 1/4 of what I previously intended and felt a lot better about everything. How many places are willing to educate you about what you really need instead of just letting you spend the amount you mistakenly think you need? Local, knowledgeable, certified, and just plain nice. I was raised by some seriously serious Catholic Democrats, the kind only found in the great state of Rhode Island, and it is because of them that I truly appreciate the Small Local Business (and labor unions, and social services, and city government, and the Lord's Prayer). I may have left the religious aspect of the Catholicism behind but oh, lord, I cannot shake the Catholic guilt. While that causes me some terrible headaches sometimes, it isn't all bad. It prevents me from going to big-box corporate chains when I have the chance to shop local, and that's a good thing. All this is to say that when I needed some keys made I turned to Clark the Locksmith first. It's local, the signs are great, and I figured (correctly) they'd have this one key that's been quite tricky to copy. The fella behind the counter was friendly and polite. He took my keys, found their matches, cautioned me that the tricky one would be expensive, and (with my go-ahead) made them up quickly. I took them and was on my merry way. Back home. Where I tried the keys. Which (2 of the 3) did not work. It is here that I apologize to the owner (Clark?) of the Locksmithery: instead of turning right around and asking him to re-make the keys, I stomped my foot, made an exasperated sound, and went to a big-box chain (where they made keys that worked). I really really really want to love Clark the Locksmith. I really really really want to support local business. But when one of a shop's major functions isn't done well, it leaves me frustrated and wanting a quick fix. And, unfortunately, unlikely to recommend the shop to anyone else. read more

Excellent! We bought locks and bolts and also had them installed by Clark's. Nicole helped us choose and order our items in store and couldn't have been nicer. She explained the ordering, pricing and installation process clearly and everything went according to plan. The women who called us to set up our install appointment and the locksmith - unfortunately, I don't remember their names! - were also very kind. The locksmith even called when he was 10 minutes away and again when he arrived to let us know he was here. It took him about 2 hours to install two keyed entry knobs and two bolts, including drilling new holes for our previously bolt-less doors; exactly as estimated by Nicole. We investigated getting some locks changed on a historic home in East Side Prov, found the telephone service prompt and efficient. We were given excellent advice on the phone, had someone swing by and provide a thorough and detailed quote for us with an equally prompt scheduling of a service appointment. Ken the locksmith came to our house and he was amazingly knowledgeable, considerate, polite, all round we were very pleased. The difference between good & great is what defines Clark the Locksmith. Had my house locks rekeyed by Gus their technician this afternoon. He was prompt, professional & polite. I jinked myself as I mentioned to him that I hoped I didn't do something silly like lock myself out of the house as no-one else had a copy of the new key. Sure enough I locked myself out of the house an hour after he left - all 10 copies of the new keys were sitting nicely on my kitchen counter!! Called Clarke at 4pm with panic in my voice. Literally within 30 minutes locksmith Jonathan arrived to save the day with a coded key to let me in. This was done without an added fee! Honestly could not ask for better customer service. I lost the only key to my motorcycle, so I gave these guys a call. I was quoted $55 for a new key if I could bring them the ignition switch, $95 if I brought the whole bike in. They estimated that if I brought it to them in the morning, it would be done before the end of the day. This is after calling one of the mobile van services in the area, and being quoted "a $29 service charge to come out, plus the key". How much for the key? $180. This is a standard piece of metal we are talking about, not some fancy chipped key. The next day, I brought them the ignition switch at 9:30am, and was told it would be done by 1pm. Around 11am, I got a call that it was ready to pick up. So, 2 keys in less than 2 hours, for $60. read more
