Day before fourth of July, everybody on the avenue is "booked solid"-- Walked in to Classic without calling around 3:15 and by 3:20 I was in the chair. And they were busy. When I was a kid growing up my barber was my next door neighbor, a trusted family friend and the only man I allowed to touch my hair. Giuseppe Sr. showed me the same skill, care and attention to detail as my childhood barber and beyond. In under fifteen minutes he had given me a hard-part skin fade that, if you had googled images of that phrase, could have been the first hit. We talked very little but he understood exactly what I wanted, better than I was expressing it. He traced my neckline with hot lather and a straight razor like an artist would paint on canvas. He was gentle but swift with surgical precision. He didn't wrap up until he was completely satisfied by his own work, and then came the hot towel and light massage. We shook hands, he offered me an espresso and I was BLOWN AWAY when I was charged only $30. That's one thing very few reviews or general posts mention in black and white-- I'm sure they get into higher pricepoints the more you get done but for my experience I found this to be an exceptional value. I've paid $25 for shitty stripmall haircuts, I truly couldn't believe the best cut I'd gotten in twenty years came at such a reasonable price. Never been to this shop before, called ahead was told one price on the phone and charged a different price in the shop. Between the call and ten minute drive a 37% increase had accrued. I then had to take money out of the atm (fee) parked on the ave (fee) all to get an okay hair cut 0 straight razor and my eyebrows untouched. A buddy from work recommended this place and I gave it a shot. Booked an appointment with his barber (one of the owner)s who took me right on time. He seemed to be a nice guy and overall he gave me the haircut I was looking for-- can't say it was special but it was a solid job. Receptionist on the way out offered me a cup of coffee or a lollypop. At $35 (cash only) plus tip it felt a little steep but it is Greenwich Avenue. Two big problems though. First, even though it's Covid and a town ordinance requires masks, almost nobody is wearing a mask in the place. The old barber (the dad?) had on his trusty N95 but the other barbers weren't wearing masks and neither were most of the customers. So that's not cool. Then, about halfway through my haircut, my barber apparently gets bored with our conversation and starts chatting with some other (unmasked) customer who walked over to say hi. I'm in the car right now after receiving the worst haircut of my 18 years on this earth. He followed none of the instructions I gave him. I told him I was trying to grow it out and he cut it quite short. Like he must've gone into auto pilot mode and giving me a super generic haircut. Best barber shop in Greenwich and the surrounding towns, I've tried the others and they don't even compare. Every haircut I've gotten has been quality and exactly what I asked for. For a little over $20 you get a great haircut, they use a straight razor to clean up your neck and finish it up with a hot towel. They'll also do a hot shave if you want. This is an old school barber shop with a great new look. There are flat screen TVs all around, so you can watch the game or catch Sports Center while you enjoy a cup of espresso. The brand new leather chairs and hardwood floors really speak volumes for the type of place this is. These guys are friendly and accommodating, they accept walk-ins, but this place can get very busy so I would recommend an appointment. read more

What just happened to me? This is by far the worst barber I have ever been to. I asked for a half on the sides and this guy looked like he had never handled clippers in his lifetime. TWICE I had to ask him to make it a little shorter, and it still looks like half of my head was never touched. I mean look at the pictures, it isn't faded at all and there's a line going around my whole head. Ridiculous that this cost almost 40 dollars with a tip. I'm literally going to have to get this redone tomorrow, I cannot believe someone could be so bad at cutting hair. I grew up in Greenwich but have been going to the same barber in NYC as an adult for 20 years. I was in town to visit and was in serious need of a haircut. I'm sure it's luck of the draw on which barber you get at Classic Barber, I unfortunately drew the short straw. Not sure how my barber accomplished it, but my hair was extremely uneven- longer on one side than the other when he announced he was finished. When he attempted to fix his mistake he just kept cutting till I had a very uneven bowl cut resembling Jim Carey in Dumb and Dumber! It gets worse. He pulled out the straight razor to trim my side burns and hairline in the back. Against my better judgement i let him continue to work......seconds later, OOPS, "I think I nicked you a little". Um, more like a gash that continued to bleed for 30 minutes. $26.00 for the worst haircut I've gotten in 40 years......... I think I'll buy a flow-bee and do it myself before I ever go to 'Classic barber" again. read more

The guys at Classic Barber are the best. Tony has been cutting my hair for 15+ years and over that time added my 3 kids to his list of customers as well. We no longer live in Greenwich but we gladly travel 30 min each way once a month for our cuts -- totally worth it. Think of an updated version of the old family owned barbershop you used to go to as a kid. Bright, clean, multiple LCD TVs tuned to sports, a great airplane chair for little kids to get cuts in by the window, coffee/espresso for you while you wait. While you might be able to find a less expensive haircut elsewhere (esp for your kids), I would submit you can't find the same value. Tony showed much patience when my two boys screamed and cried through their first cuts -- calming them down, taking time to make sure they were comfortable, and reassuring me that they don't cry much after a few times. It didn't take long before my sons looked forward to the trip to Greenwich to see Tony. Elitist attitudes. Don't dare walk in here with jeans and a button down flannel shirt. They'll seem shocked when you give them a good tip because they absolutely judge people on their appearance. Do not listen to customers. I asked for "the works:" shampoo, cut and hot shave. He literally just started cutting my hair without the shampoo and "forgot" I had asked for a shave. So I got a basic haircut in 7 minutes flat... For 29 dollars. Plus tip that's 34 bucks, when Albert's just shy of Port Chester will do the same cut with no wait for 15 bucks less. I was excited upon entering the Barbershop. I located it by using Yelp. Located on on a cool strip has a very nice and welcoming atmosphere. There were 6 barbers and I did not have to wait long. The barber who I got was a complete dick. He made me feel unwelcome from the moment I sat down. He made me feel stupid for not having the kind of hair he likes to cut. I am sure that not all of the barbers are jerks, but after spending $29 + tip (I tipped nicely so hopefully he wouldn't be as rude to the nice customer who might look like me) for a quick haircut that made me feel worse than when I entered. read more

But since my schedule not as flexible and I've moved even further from my usual stylist, I must find different options that better fit my lifestyle. Classic Barber was a pleasant find. I was down the road visiting an Apple store when I stumbled upon the classic spinning barber pole on Greenwich Ave. I knew I was in definite need of a haircut, so I figured I'd give it a try. Since I usually visit higher end salons and prefer women to cut my hair, I was already preparing to do an about-face if the barber shop didn't meet my standards. Walking upstairs I expected to see a gray haired old man, single barber chair & some dusty barber tools. I was totally wrong. I was greeted by hardwood floors, 5 brand new leather barber chairs, a large LCD TV & an espresso machine. It was classic barber shop meets, 21st century comfort. The barber Giuseppe, a young Bronx native was accommodating. He was very professional & it really felt like a barber shop of long ago. The LCD TV, did not take away from the charm of the establishment, the TV of course was locked on ESPN Sportcenter while the conversations flowed from sports & all things manly. Yes this wasn't the salon that I usually liked going to, hair boutiques with papering & beautiful assistants, this was a barber shop. Men only, sports talk, and the quiet awe that filled the room when a commercial for the Victoria Secret Show came on TV. Granted it was also a bonus learning that some of my favorite Yankee players also visited the establishment on occasion. For a little more than $20 I received a great haircut, a razor finish and a hot towel. If I needed a shave I'm sure a straight edge razor would have come out as well. My only gripe was the fact that they didn't not accept credit cards, cash or check only. But this is such a minor point as I would gladly come back here again. I checked out the reviews on Yelp for Classic Barber and it looked all good so I went. Giuseppe Jr. was awesome. He didn't cut too much so he had room to cut more if I wanted it shorter. He was patient and kept asking if I wanted anything else done. He was cool, and the whole family vibe of the place is great. This is an oasis of good service and great haircuts. An old school, high quality fixture on the Avenue, they go the extra mile to deliver a great haircut and a relaxing 30 minutes. All the cutters are experienced and do a great job. I favor the founder Giuseppe Sr, but everyone is good. Many clients have been going for years. The only issue is parking which can be chaotic on a sunny day but spots are found easily a block or two off the Avenue. Try it, you will like it. read more

Positives: Very clean. Nice TVs and location. Over the course of a year and a half, I went to this barbershop and ultimately had my hair cut by around 5 different barbers, all of whom were either good or excellent. That means you can come here and have a high degree of confidence you'll get a good haircut. Negatives: I have a simple haircut that takes around 15 minutes max to perform, and I'm clean shaven, so I don't ask a barber to do anything involving my facial hair. For a basic haircut with no extras, I used to be charged a hilariously overpriced $35 once I included a decent tip. After a price reduction, it's now, "only" roughly $30 per cut including tip. Overpricing reduces this place's score by one star. The other negative is why I ultimately don't come to this place anymore. I would sometimes visit this barbershop as a "walk-in" if I found myself with free time and needing a haircut. Sometimes, I wouldn't be able to get a haircut as a walk-in, which I'd normally be 100% okay with since I understand I'm only guaranteed service at a business if I make an appointment. However, what irritated me was how whenever I would come in as a walk-in, the lady at the front desk would say, "Let me ask the barbers to see if anybody is available," and each barber would "size me up" before saying they were too busy to give me a haircut. I'm not exaggerating - a few times, a barber would walk over towards the front of the shop to get a better look at me so he could gauge the quality of my clothing before telling the receptionist to tell me he's "booked solid for the day." Question - if he's booked solid for the whole day, why did he walk towards me to get a good look before deciding he was too busy? If he's really busy all day, he should say he's busy without needing to "inspect" me. This conspicuous "evaluation" process happened on a few separate occasions, and after awhile, I gave up on this place and found an equally good alternative that was cheaper and friendlier. I stopped coming here because I reject the implication that I'm supposed to dress in fine clothing to convince these barbers I'm worth their time as a walk-in on a Saturday morning. I wear nice clothing as part of my very demanding job, so on Saturdays, I just want to wear a T-shirt and jeans. I'm asking for a 15 minute haircut, not a million dollar mortgage, so casual clothing should be acceptable. This place consistently delivers good haircuts and is in a good location, but it loses two stars for Greenwich price inflation and for Greenwich snobbishness. read more

Tony is super friendly and the shop is great, with two large tv's to watch sports and an espresso/coffee machine while you wait. If you are need of a basic haircut this is the place. I am a guy in my late 20's with a normal haircut and have always gone to a salon type place for a little texture/style. They do a good job here but it is pretty basic. I actually almost got a light blowout (See Jersey Shore) around the edges which I was not happy about.
