Review Highlights - Classic Gymnastics

There are no other adult-friendly gymnastics facilities in Tracy, so I'll always appreciate Jenny for opening up her space to gymnasts over 18.

Our family loves this place! The owner and staff are so nice and helpful! We are so grateful there…read moreis such a top notch gymnastics facility here in Tracy. I love watching the older gymnasts practice in addition to my kids. You can really get a good picture of the strength and good habits developed from training here. I definitely recommend this spot to all parents! They also now have adult classes too! Once my kids are older and I have the free time, I would love to try these classes.

First of all, I've seen the head coach/manager of the ninja program constantly scold and belittle the boys when they have a hard time following directions or keeping up. It's rude, disrespectful, and so inappropriate -- these are kids! This is supposed to be a fun, positive class where they can move, learn, and feel proud of themselves, not a place where they get talked down to or embarrassed in front of others. I've complained about this same coach before, hoping something would change, but nothing ever does. It's really disappointing that this kind of behavior continues to be allowed. And then there's the ticket system. It's completely unfair and honestly feels cruel. At the end of class, the kids are lined up and only a few are chosen for tickets, while others -- including my son -- are left standing there empty-handed, over and over again. The coaches seem to pick the same kids every week, like they have favorites. My son comes home in tears thinking he did something wrong or just wasn't good enough. It breaks my heart. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way -- other parents I know have said the same thing. All kids should be encouraged and praised for their effort, not compared or made to feel less than. This is hurting their confidence and self-esteem. Something needs to change. Kids deserve a safe, positive, and encouraging space -- not one that makes them feel small or left out.

My toddler enjoys coming here for their weekly Kindergym classes (for ages 18 months-3 years)…read more There are lots of activities for the little ones to do, even the new walkers. My little girl especially loves the trampolines and the swings they have. 30 minutes of free play is always followed by a 15 minute Circle time where they listen to music, do silly dances and sing songs. We've been coming here since Spring and really enjoy having this type of parent & me movement class for this age range. Like many toddlers, my girl is in the "NO!" Phase but will always say "yes" to "jump jump" (what she calls the class). The only issue is the lack of parking. It can be a hassle since the center is located in the Big O tires/auto body/mechanics shared parking lots. So, be sure to come early to get a space!

Some of the classes can get very crowded, especially on the weekend, but the instructors are very good about separating the kids into two (or more) groups that work on different sets of exercises (e.g. floor & bars). Mary Lou, who started this gymnastics center and ran it for many years sold it to one of her students, Amy - who runs it now. Many younger ex-students assist with classes along with either Mary Lou or Amy leading, and it gives me a lot of satisfaction to know that this Livermore institution will continue many years into the future.

My experience is for their preschool program. We have been…read moregoing here for almost 2 months with Coach Kimmie. She is friendly, understanding that 2 year-olds dont always follow direction so patient but encourages them to try something new without being pushy. They set up a course for the kids to do (bars, balance beam, trampoline, rope, somersaults) and it changes every few weeks. They move to different areas of the gym including the foam pit. Our daughter enjoys her time every week and looks forward to going. I will mention for parents doing research and comparing options there is no make up classes available for toddlers, but the price stays the same if there is 5 of your day of the month or 4. They have limited closures for holidays. throughout the year.

It really pains me to write this review, but it has to be done to guard other families from what we…read moreexperienced. My 7yo daughter was invited to join the xcel team at the bronze level back in May and last week, we just got kicked off the team via EMAIL with no warning and no discussion.  Their email stated that "we have taken the time to evaluate the progress of our athletes and at this time, [my daughter] is not meeting expectations of our bronze level group requirements...We will go ahead and refund any assessment and uniform fees you have paid to date and drop her from the system."   I am beyond flabbergasted by the way they just kicked her off the team without the courtesy of a phone call or even an in person discussion. If they truly cared or was invested in their athletes, I would imagine they would have spoken to us and maybe come up with a plan to help her catch up. Granted, she was hesitant on bars but we had expressed interest in doing extra classes or private lessons on multiple occasions to help her be confident on bars, as she's fine with the other events. Not once did they say she needed it. Now all of a sudden, she's off the team.We theorize she got kicked off because of an interaction they had with my husband. During our last practice, my husband was inquiring about the outside choreographer that they were bringing in for choreo. The coach at the front didn't know and my husband pressed further simply to get more info so we could show our daughter what to expect. She apparently took that as him being aggressive. She could have easily said, "you can email the team coach." If anyone knows my husband, he is the complete opposite of aggressive - he's avoids confrontation at all costs. Later that night is when we got the email.   I just can't believe how they handled the situation. Parents aren't allowed to watch practice and this person they're bringing in isn't part of the gymnastics team/school - As parents, don't we have a right to know who is going to be working/training with our child? Don't we have a right to ask? Is it wrong to make sure our SEVEN YEAR OLD daughter is in safe hands?   I'm sad for my daughter but in a way, glad that this happened early on. I do not want to be associated or part of a team that gets defensive when asked questions and clearly doesn't care about their athletes.
