We have two very large windows with eyebrow arches on the front of our house that we wanted redone with Plantation Shutters. We had regular faux wood blinds on both windows prior, but were never fully satisfied with them. They didn't cover the full window, but they were the best we could afford at the time. After perusing reviews on Yelp we decided to give JR a call and he came out to the house. We were a little surprised that he only had one sample to show us. He only uses the Norman Blinds, and they don't have the traditional vertical bar that enables opening and closing. We really liked JR, though, and decided to go with the Norman Blinds, even though they were a little different from what we had been expecting. One cool thing about the Normans is that you can close the bottom 1/3rd portion of the blinds while leaving the top open, which is nice when you want some light but don't want people outside to see in. We also have two very skinny windows which border the sides of our front door. Very creepy to have people look in the windows at you (and they do!). We ended up ordering shutters for those as well. It took a couple months for the blinds to come in, but the guys who came to install them did a fantastic job. They even wore foot booties so as not to dirty my white carpet. They were very nice and respectful. Once up, the shutters looked awesome. We love them. I love being able to close them tightly at night and love how dark the bedroom stays in the mornings. It actually is much nicer *not* having a vertical bar running up the blinds that obstructs our view. I plan to eventually have some of our other windows done as well, as soon as it's in the budget. We paid Classic Home Dallas a $7,629.75 deposit for three custom MagnaTrack screens in June. Months later, the screens were never delivered or installed, and we learned the order had not been placed with the manufacturer. Communication became extremely difficult, and the company later acknowledged serious financial problems and said it could not provide a reliable delivery or refund date. We have been patient and made repeated attempts to resolve this directly, but we are still waiting for our money back. read more

I gave them $10,000.00 for patio screens and they first: lost my check and tried to get me to send another, forgot to send the man to measure our space, but finally did, and would not return calls or email/text me about my order. THIS COMPANY DOES NOT WARRANTY THEIR PRODUCT! I have used Classic Home Dallas for my entire house and never had a problem until I have needed to get a repair for something under warranty. I have both shutters and electronic blinds - all from Classic Homes Dallas. One of my electronic blinds stopped working back in August. I was still within my warranty period so reached out to the company to get my shade repaired. I have been mostly speaking with Jennifer. Over the past 3 months, I have heard every excuse to why my repair is taking so long, ie: we changed our systems, cannot find your original order, the company we used for these shades went out of business, the staff in our office quit (yet again - I think like twice now), we cannot find a motor, we are looking for a separate remote, and the latest, we found a motor and cannot seem to locate the hardware! Every excuse made it seem like it was MY FAULT! And when I asked to speak with the owner, Rick, well, he seems to be on vacation quite often. It took less time to get these ordered and installed the first time than to get 1 simple motor replaced. At this point (after 3 months), a new motor should have been ordered and installed - that would have been the right thing to do since it is under warranty. Not offer to give me a pieced together model that may not hold up! Needless to say, my patience has worn out and on top of it, I have a shade that has been hanging down for 3 months - unable to roll up or roll down!! Not great when it is the back of your house in the hot summer when the sun is going down! Every week that I have spoken with Jennifer, there is a new excuse! And at the end of it all, I still have a broken shade that is under warranty. I am just starting the review/complaint process here and will be making a more formal complaint against this company since I am losing all hope that anything will be done. Just thought I would share my experience for those that are shopping for shades! Product looks great, but you better hope something does not go wrong! Still hopeful that Classic Homes Dallas will do the right thing, but since I am at the 3-month mark, I might just be fooling myself and not dealing with reality! read more

Worst experience with this company! Had a backyard blind installed a couple of years ago. The blind came off the rail. Reached out to the company and was assured it was still under warranty and they'll have someone come out to fix it however, they require a $250 service charge via check which I issued when they arrived. They came and said some parts were needed and they'll come back to fix it. They came back and said it wasn't repairable. Called the office to ask what next and was told the damage was caused by wind therefore, is not covered by warranty. I asked how they knew it was a wind damage as this seems like an assumption and excuse to not fix the damage. The lady I spoke to, can't remember her name. Maybe Jennifer chuckled and said " well I don't know what else could have caused this damage. You're not supposed to have the blinds down because it can't withstand wind more than 25mph". Excuse me??? First of all, we weren't told this. We were told this was a weather resistant blind and how on earth am I supposed to have blinds and expected to keep it up at all times? What is the purpose of the blinds then??? I told her we only keep it down at night and she said, "well, that's when you get the most wind". When else am I supposed to keep the blinds down? During the day when we're sitting in the patio? Or keep it up when it's raining and storming??? These are the times we need the blinds to protect our outdoor furniture and electronics! She did not seem to care at all and said all she could do was give me a quote for a brand new install! Haven't heard back from them since then and they never refunded my $250 either! We had a very specific request from JR to have our shutters match our kitchen cabinetry. He was able to pull through with an amazing deal beating out other competitive quotes with a high quality product. The installation team was expedient, quick, and professional. JR also stopped by to ensure quality assurance on the final install. We had some difficult archway windows in our stairwell and upstairs bedroom, which they made to spec. We had large windows that we wanted to be sure would still open, and he came up with a solution that would make our shutters functional while being secure with the window mechanisms. When guests stop by they think it came with the house because they match our other wood finishing perfectly! Our order went wrong in SO MANY WAYS. Disappointed to have wasted our time. This company offers standard blinds in traditional colors and styles which will fit very nicely in any mobile home. If budget isn't your TOP priority, you want anything out of the ordinary, or NOT TOTALLY BASIC--learn from our mistake, SAVE YOURSELF A WEEK OF HEADACHES AND go elsewhere JR came out and measured our windows, showed and us some sample books. After he measured our windows, we discussed options (we were limited because our window are big and we specifically told him we only wanted a single shade in each window). Prior to placing the order JR left the house - he said to confirm that the blinds we picked were available in the size needed. After JR confirmed they were available, we picked out blinds/shades for our living room, master, and guest bedroom, JR took our deposit and left. Two days later, he emailed to let us know the color we picked for the bedrooms wasn't available but a color "really close" was and that we couldn't get a single blind wide for the bedrooms as the blinds we picked (and all of the blinds offered from his other vendors) didn't come as large as needed for our windows. (Huh- guess they lied on the phone or was it that you didn't actually call? ). After going back and forth several times via email discussing options that weren't the single blind we had specifically said we wanted (and were assured were available before we ordered), JR agreed to cancel our order for the bedroom but stated he already had ordered the living room shade (ie in his opinion we were stuck with it). Luckily, after I insisted he call the vendor and the vendor allowed him to cancel the living room shade and JR FINALLY agreed to refund our deposit. SEVERAL THINGS WENT WRONG HERE 1) he obviously didn't know the product or knew that the sizes/colors weren't available but took our $ anyhow hoping that we would just settle for what he had to offer. This wasted over a week of our time. NO APOLOGY or acknowledgement that he was the one that messed up. 2) his refund policy sucks. refunding when you don't have the product should be a no brainier- don't waste my time further and don't hold me responsible for your mix up. Yes the living room shade was what I ordered but when I ordered it, you said you could get the bedroom shades I wanted. Customers wanting to order all window treatments from the same company (so you can have them all installed at once, get a bundle discount, etc) is reasonably foreseeable- don't act like I am inconveniencing you by wanting to order everything from someone else when you can't give me what you promised. 3) he's peddling crap and calling it equal. JR told us Norman blinds are comparable to Hunter Douglas. So NOT the case. Not only did the Hunter Douglas make blinds big enough for our windows but they also have a much wider selection of fabrics, textures, and colors compared to what we were shown. They also had blinds with larger pleats (up to 1.5 inches instead of the 3/4 inch). Hunter Douglas MAY BE MORE EXPENSIVE BUT NORMAN BLINDS ARE NOT EQUIVALENT to Hunter Douglas' quality/selection. While the price may not be worth it for all customers, JR's statements implying the two products were equal were not truthful. 4) His quote for Hunter Douglas blinds was that they would be at least 3000 but the other two companies we spoke with quoted 2400 and below. (More 600 off and Less than $500 more than JR's quote for Norman blinds). The only good tip we got from JR was to "try on of the companies in Uptown". spending almost $5k on power screens (and had the power done myself for them ) it has been a little over 1 year and continue to have problems with my screens sticking going down !! screens losing up as well . I don't like to give companies bad review . but after the install the company had installers out several times as well with management. of course they never felt there was a problem . people have commented on the install and it was not pleasant for me to hear what they had to say ,and to add my sales person never even followed up to make sure there customer was satisfied . The reason for my post review now is I opened my screens and now I can not get them down Very frustrated and disappointed . bEST EVER!! Took some time but had a tricky Bay window upstairs in 100 year old house in M-streets, BUT Gawd the results were WELL worth the wait!!! Whole bottom of house has awesome shutters, we bought house 4 months ago and were given A+ service just for a $1,000 dollars worth of work! The builder prices were, of course, ridiculous, so we decided to strike out on our home and hope for the best. After vetting several vendors for a roller shade/shutter installation, my husband and I decided on using Classic Home (Formerly Classic Shutters) and we are extremely happy with our decision. JR is very responsive and made sure to come out to the house a few times throughout the decision-making and installation process. We installed plantation shutters throughout the house, and as predicted, there are a few louvers that weren't 100%. Not a problem for us at all... the installers pointed it out to us during the process before we had time to go around and make our own assessment... very professional. We just bought our home and needed shutters or blinds. We weren't sure which we wanted but after talking to JR and seeing the samples and hearing him explain the products we decided to get shutters on the windows in the front of our home and blinds everywhere else.
