My daughter Abigail started at the age of 6 and has been going for about 7 months now and…read moreabsolutely loves it. Coach Brian and all the coaches are extremely kind and caring as well as the other children in class. Even the older more experienced children take their time to help the newer ones. Since my daughter started training she has learned to be more confident in herself and she has made several friends with the other kids in class. She has chosen to stop gymnastics and soccer to stay focused on Ju Jitsu and she made this choice after the 1st month of being at Carlson Gracie Channahon. As a parent I feel so confident and comfortable with the coaches and other kids that I let my daughter go into class on her own at times which builds her confidence and has made her grow less shy around people. I am truly happy that we found a place where our daughter can not only learn how to defend herself but can become more confident in all aspects of life.

Brian claimed that one of my sons got it from a tournament over 20 days prior to my son showing any signs of impentigo... impentigo takes 4-10 days to manifest after exposure... my other son has never competed in a tournament. This gym is the only place they both could have gotten it. I asked again about their cleaning procedures and he still will not answer. The place is visably dirty with caked on dust where the display apparel. It looks like they are using packing tape instead of mat tape and that tape is filthy. All red flags. Oh! They also have a ridiculous superstition about not washing belts... no wonder skin infections thrive in this biohazard. Please do not support a business that doesn't take simple standard cleaning steps to protect you and will not duscl9se those steps to patrons. They are now being investigated by the health department. Aside from that, I seriously question the value of their instruction. I have seen 5 year old soccer practices run by volunteer parent coaches that appeard to be more organized than their belting ceremony...a ceeremony that should be routine... the staff did not seem to know what they were doing and the students seem to be out of control.

They have morning and afternoon classes, which is great for my schedule and any 9-5 ers. I started training judo/bjj, I find every session fun, challenging and exciting. Powersource is teaching me a new skill and given me the chance to meet some great people while doing it.

I dont know about Martial Arts but the advise is sound. It's something I remain my son of before class. I like the way the Senseis' pay attention to the class and help the little ones out to gather more strength. As a mom it's hard to sit for a class and watch. I trust my baby in capable hands. The Sensei want achievement and so do I. So whatever the Senseis' say goes. I make sure my son understands this. So when a behavior needs to be corrected. The Senseis does it. Especially for safety. The Senseis will let anyone in the class that their listening skills are lacking. This way when I do watch I know why it will take my son longer to gain a stripe. I am happy with this teaching as a first time nervous mom. Also listening skills is very important. When my son is not listening. The Sensei is sure to let him know. This helps me help my son enforce his listening skills. We are both learning. I love it.

Their assistants Debbie and Nicholas are also great and will constantly push you and give sound advice. There is a friendly family atmosphere for the most part, but these guys know when to get serious, command respect from all students, and push the physical limits of the class. Like Kristen B. noted, the first class is free for any martial art you want to try out, and you can try them all. For newbies, there's a pretty mixed crowd in the beginner and intermediate Muay Thai classes. I'd say about 35-40% of the class is female, and the age spread is very wide from age 10 to people in their 40s. Many of the advanced and intermediate level students go to the beginner classes to brush up on their basics, and it gives the new students some experienced partners to help them progress. Most of all, EVERYONE is just really chill. If there's anything that might need improvement, the gym itself could use a water fountain and an interior refresh here and there. At least they sell cold beverages and bottled water for relatively cheap. Other than that, it's a pretty good size gym with a full-size ring, weight-training area, a big class mat area, and a heavybag area. You can also order your equipment through them. Test yourself and feed that inner beast. It's great fun and being with good people makes it even more worthwhile!
