Love Claunch's. Our favorite days are Sunday and Tuesday because of the fried chicken special. The sides are always good.

I was so hopeful this would be my new hangout, but sadly it was disappointing. At first the place looks closed as the windows are bare. Only a giant vinyl sign that say now open. So I go in and look at the menu and select one of the 4 sandwiches they offer, a BLT! I added chips and a drink, total 10.00 give or take some change. She ask me if I want that on croissant or ciabatta. I say ciabatta. She asks me if I want it heated? I say well the bread toasted yes. She is very friendly by the way. So I being the only customer wait for my sandwich. I get it wrapped in foil. Peel it open and the foil sticks to the hot bread (lol) no problem. I'll pick that off. I take a bite and taste no bacon so I open it up and it's bacon bits. Lol. The entire sandwich is hot so I'm eating hot lettuce hot tomato. I decided to just enjoy the bread Lol. Quaint little restaurant inside of Spring Park in Tuscumbia. The trip into the park provides wonderful views of the falls and you can walk to the falls from the restaurant. They're only open from 11-2 to serve diners. The rest of their business is private parties and catering. They ONLY take cash or check. No debit or credit. They have a rotating meat and veggie menu as well as a full time lunch specials menu full of sandwiches and salads. All of the meat and veggie plates I saw looked really good. I had heard numerous praises for the pecan chicken salad plate which comes with fresh fruit, a slice of lemon tea bread, and a concoction called frozen fruit delite. Now I have to say this wasn't the best chicken salad I've ever had but it was still pretty good. The chicken was shredded, the celery was a little chunky, there was just barely enough mayo to keep it all moist and together, I didn't really taste any onions, no fruit in the mixture but pecans. I hope that will tell you whether it's your style of chicken salad or not. The fruit was plentiful and the good stuff, strawberries and grapes mostly. The tart flavor balanced well with the chicken salad. The tiny slice of lemon tea bread wasn't quite enough for me to tell you if it was good or not. BUT THE FROZEN FRUIT DELITE...it was delicious! Strange as it is the best I can compare it too is a fluffy strawberry ice cream with small bits of strawberries, pineapple, pecans, and coconut. It sort of seemed like all of that was mixed into a cool whip base and frozen. I don't know but it was good and a perfect ending to my meal. I did notice that for the meals that don't come with it there is an upcharge for substituting this addictive item. They were pretty crowded even though I was there for a late lunch. Sweet little find set in a park. The have inside dining and covered patio seating overlooking the pond. The staff is real friendly and eager to ensure you're happy. I had the pecan chicken salad plate that came with the most delicious sides of fresh fruit, lemon tea bread, and a frozen fruit delight. Everything was as good as the next and it was filling. I didn't realize it was cash/check preferred. Who carries checks these days?! But they recently acquired square and will take cards but they charge 3% to do so. No big deal as it was only me, but this could add up with a family or larger group. I appreciated the convenience so it was worth the small fee. All in all, a delightful find while working on the area. Will definitely visit again if my travels find me in the area. Highly recommended...too bad they're aren't more reviews to help create a buzz. read more

Food was ok, but they were out of salmon patties on their Thursday special. Had to get meatloaf, which was ok, but a bit dense. It came with cream corn (out of a can), green beans (very good), cornbread muffin (cold, no butter offered), and mashed potatoes (good, but only if you like garlic powder...not shown as garlic mashed potatoes). Had water to drink; waitress didn't fill glass during the meal. It was a bit pricey for the fare, and no credit cards? The men's restroom was dirty, paint worn off and peeling on the seat, and particle board already coming through. Women and men have to share a sink outside the crumpled toilets. The restaurant has been much better in the past; a bit tired--in need of an update. read more

We arrived right before they were getting ready to close, but were readily welcomed inside. We chose the pecan chicken salad plate (and from other reviews, you'll quickly understand why it's so popular!). The fresh fruit was delicious, the frozen parfait was the perfect refreshment, not too heavy, just light enough. The lemon tea bread was delicious as well. Service was excellent, quick and friendly. The prices were extremely reasonable as well. It's just a hop, skip and a jump from Spring Park too. read more

There is absolutely nothing negative to to say about this gem of an eating spot. Chef Johnny Belew and his crew outdo themselves daily! Portions are eye-popping, yet not over done. Quality of the food is outstanding! From daily soup of the day, to daily specials, to menu staples like their homemade chicken salad served with plentiful, fresh fruit. It's all fantastic. Not your typical meat-and-3 in the south ... Claunches isn't eclectic, and if you get there early, you find an easy parking spot. This place is packed full everyday . Walk off some of your meal afterwards and check out the world's largest man made waterfall, and very large petrified trees just around the corner. Homemade pies?! Oh my, their Key Lime is to die for. It's my pilgrimage every time I'm I the Shoals. Service is above and beyond, friendly, menu knowledgable, and courteous. I'd love to say something, anything, about this restaurant that would reflect the dining experience I had hoped to have. But since I am from out of town, my cousin has repeatedly recommended it, and shared posts on social media of their food, but, I have yet to eat there. Their very restrictive hours usually prevent us getting to visit, they are closed on Saturdays when we are always there over a weekend. So I was excited to see they were open this past Sunday, Google said they were open for dine in and take out. So the family drove over only to find on SUNDAYS they only do curb side. First, you should make that better known. Second, I am so over curb side, and who does curb side only one day a week? If it was spring, or fall, sure we could take it to the park, but it's the devil's armpit outside and there are plenty of restaurants, that are open, that we can sit down and eat in. Really disappointed, I was looking for the home cooked food I had been teased with for a couple years. So really the one star is for their hours, not their food as I still don't know. read more

We ordered take out and everyone was pleased. Delicious blue plate special: fried boneless breast of chicken, homemade mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole; chicken salad sandwich; BLT(needed more tomatoes); salad with chicken breast. My family and I went to Claunch's Cafe today for lunch at 11:20 am right after they opened and was excited to eat their special. We got seated quickly and ordered their fried salmon because doesn't everyone like their grandmothers fried salmon?? So we sat around and waited for about 2 min and the food came out on plates with cream corn (which was great), mashed taters(which were great) and some green beans (which were good but needed a little salt, no complaint though because there was salt on the table). Then there was the burnt, gooey brick...the "salmon patty". So we picked around it for a minute, ate the veggies and tried to enjoy what we had expected to be grandmas salmon patty. We asked for ketchup, it didn't work...then tobasco...still didn't work...pepper sauce, nope! So we just left our plates full of veggies and four nearly entire (what they called salmon patties) on the plate. Not once was asked if everything was good because clearly it wasn't because no one ate their food. So we walked outside and got to talking and decided to go mention that the patties weren't edible. As I am standing at the counter I notice that the chalk board where they usually have their specials listed said "Daily Specials Meatloaf or ______" LOL looks like someone had the same idea. They literally had erased the word Salmon on the chalk board. smh So I commenced to speak with the manager and her name was Morgan to ask for our money back because we were all still hungry and the bill was $40 for four waters and four erased daily specials....She then confronted me on why we didn't say anything before and I replied because we were embarrassed to say anything but I felt that we wasted our money. So she replies, would yall like some dessert to go and I replied no thanks I'd just like a refund because it wasn't edible and we are still hungry. She then pulls a $10 bill out of the register and says "Here's a refund for your salmon patties". I laughed and took the $10 and have just decided to let everyone know how terrible the management is at this place of business. I mean I get it, you're in business to make money but not to serve inedible food then when a customer asks for their money back, offer them 1/4 of the tab because you feel like we should have made a scene at the table to the waitress that was doing her best and not to the one in charge that its okay. All in all if my family owned a business and someone had a complaint, I would like to know about it and at least offer to take care of it for them. Not just offer them $2.50 a plate for the overheated, under-cooked bread patty that hardly had any salmon in it. Needless to say, we will not be going back and I hope that $30 profit was worth it to you, Ms. Morgan Manager. You have lost me and my families business for ever. read more
