They have yet to cater for me personally but I have attended many functions they have catered and what a fabulous job they do. They are a full service caterer and have beautiful pieces of every size and shape, in which to create a extremely lovely display. We ate here for my sons birthday. The service is great! I ordered the salmon on rice again. It is highly recommended. The rice has a little heat to it, and the salmon seems to be slightly blackened. 3 people at our table ordered it, and we ate everything on our plates! We also had the skillet brownie. This building and architecture are gorgeous, and we had some beautiful pictures on the porch.... But sadly, that's about where the level of satisfaction ended. We had a party of 5... 2 ordered filet minions and 1 ordered a ribeye, and none of the 3 were cooked correctly.... From very overdone (we could say burnt) to raw when they tried to fix it, to a filet that was very chewy, it was sadly disappointing. Another person ordered shrimp and grits, and it was super bland, zero flavor.... Just dry white grits and brown gravy with charred shrimp. This was a special lunch for an 80th birthday, and just disappointing overall quality of the food. Food was well seasoned and flavorful with a varied selection on the men to suit most anyone. The downtown Sheffield that's been revitalized is beautiful. The restaurant blends in well to the vibe the street gives off. It was well decorated and put together on the inside, but there are tvs at the tables. I wasn't sure what the televisions were for, but it takes away from the upscale look of the inside of the restaurant. The hostess was sweet and friendly as soon as we walked in. After being seated we were given 1 menu. We had our drinks ( water and a glass of wine) right away. We ordered an appetizer and received that, but didn't get checked on by the waitress after that. We were left alone long enough that we flagged the hostess down to get our waitress so we could order our dinner. The appetizer came out , followed shortly by the salads and then the entree. It was all really hot and fresh and tasted good. The entree was on a really large plate making the portion look small. Side note, the restaurant definitely gives off Bougie vibes but the hostess/waitstaff wears tshirts and leggings and Nikes. It was just a weird mix between is this a fancy restaurant or like diner vibe. I would say give it a try just because the food is good. read more

Red clay has a laid back, casual atmosphere. The food is always delicious and fresh and everyone so friendly. We go at least once a week for lunch and can get in and out in less than a hour. They usually do wonderful dinner specials on Friday nights. Try it, you will not be disappointed. read more

Sometimes you wonder about the value of restaurants doing food trucks or catering. Then you go to a music festival and get some ridiculously good shrimp and grits. My wife and I went to Shoals Fest and decided to give the Red Clay Table booth a shot. We're not locals. But the food we had was so good, when it came time to decide where to get brunch the next day, you better believe we were crossing the bridge to Sheffield. The watermelon appetizer was delicious. I had the skillet frittata and the food was perfect. Only complaint was that the cast iron could use a good scrub. My wife had the hash (and I a few bites). So very good. We were very pleased. Service was prompt and friendly and the waitress was terrific for answering questions we had about the area. We recognized the chef from the day before and he was quite nice and gave us a history of the restaurant. All in all, a terrific place to eat. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed. read more

Took a road trip to the Muscle Shoals area to take in the studio tours and visit the Rosenbaum House. We were looking for a lunch spot with safe distancing and it appeared the Red Clay had that along with a well-appointed dining room and a nice atmosphere in the cool downtown Sheffield district. We walked in and were seated and served in a comfortable booth almost immediately. The staff were as polite and friendly as they could be and we enjoyed a great meal of fried catfish, grilled burgers and salads. Thanks to the Red Clay Table for such a good meal and a relaxing interlude between our tour stops. We would definitely visit this restaurant again. See you next time! read more

Felt very rushed. Salad and entrees were delivered at the same time. Filet was not cooked properly - bleeding when I ordered it cooked medium. Did not ask if we wanted any more to drink, if we wanted dessert or if everything was ok. Very disappointing experience. Will not go back. I tried the Shrimp and Grits and Green Beans and the flavor of both was out of this world. The grits were perfectly cooked and their texture was amazing. Th shrimp were properly cooked (not over cooked). Both of those coupled with a sauce so good you could drink it straight made for an awesome lunch! My sister ordered shrimp and grits. 6 shrimp swam around in a sea of grits! It was tasty however! I ordered chicken breast with cornbread salad. The chicken breast was grilled and nicely seasoned. In terms of the cornbread salad, I'm not sure what I expected (probably a version of panzanella salad) but the salad was the consistency of dressing you make at Thanksgiving before you cook it! Not my favorite, but that's personal. It was a little bland. Service was fair. We sat outside for COVID reasons in a nicely shaded alcove outside the front door. I hope these guys are around for a long time. They get food. They like food, they probably have inappropriate (but consensual) relationship with food which is fantastic. The entire experience is straightforward, unpretentious (which it deserves to be) food at a reasonable cost. Serving sizes aren't huge but are satisfying and what you'd expect for a place where people don't measure the quality of food by their most recent experience at an all you can eat buffet. They get food and they give a damn, or as someone explained to me, "Chef gives a shit." Put it on a t-shirt and I'd wear it, proudly. Chef understands that presentation along with taste and texture are equally important. The kitchen is open, with good, calm communication. As someone who was raised in a commercial kitchen with the burns to prove it I'm glad these folks are here and I look forward to eating my way through their menu. Oh and the interior is incredibly civilized, yea, even dignified, making a relaxing experience with nary and tv in sight. (Praise!). I had heard of Red Clay Table a couple of times and this weekend I tried it out. I had great anticipation to having some good food. The location looked the part, being in older downtown Sheffield, atmosphere was nice, my waitress was very good. So, everything seemed hopeful. I ordered a Caesar Brussel sprout salad and shrimp and grits. The salad came pretty quickly, and I anticipated trying something new, different and tasty. Well.... even though I ordered this salad - in retrospect I should have known better. Raw Brussel sprouts? (that where shaved into small pieces)? It was a pretty terrible salad. Had no taste except raw brussels sprouts. No Caesar dressing - not a hint of Caesar or dressing of any flavor, that I could tell. I salted and peppered it a lot. The salt and pepper shakers didn't put out much and I shook them pretty hard trying to add some kind of flavor. That didn't help it much. It was like eating raw shaved cabbage, but worse. Next came my shrimp and grits. It was a reasonable size dish (a lot of grits and what I was say as enough shrimp that you probably wouldn't complain). Presentation was that, it was all on the plate but not much beyond that. I noticed when the dish came that it appeared the sauce looked like basic light brown gravy and nothing else in it. It was my first indicator that something was wrong. But, I was still hopeful it was going to be tasty. Well....it wasn't. Every shrimp and grits dishes that I have had, have all had flavor and spices and has always been a tasty dish to eat. I tried to add salt and pepper - but shakers wouldn't cooperate. This shrimp and grits dish had no taste whatsoever. I don't think it had any spices in it or even salt or pepper in it. The only thing that qualified it as being "shrimp and grits" is that it technically had shrimp, had gravy and had grits. But that technicality is the only thing that made it this dish. The grits where kind of dry breakfast type grits and dry. The gravy was light brown and I was guessing it may have been instant gravy. The shrimp were of an ok size but just ok size. Whole thing was just very bland. It was the worst shrimp and grits I have ever had. Their other dishes may be better? - I don't know. But, I tried to notice what other people were eating, but did not spot anything that gave me hope. I don't think I'm going to give it any future chances - I will pass on this place. read more
