For $7.95 I got 1 grilled pork chop, fried okra, corn and fried corn bread its ok. The pork chop was a small portion, tough and needed A1 sauce to taste ok. The fried okra was pretty good - crunchy and not slimy. Corn - seemed like from the can and needed lots of black pepper and salt. Fried corn bread - it was very dry and did not taste good. Don't expect too much quality wise for the price. Interior very open and staff were all very friendly and attentive. Food was excellent. I had the meat loaf which was excellent. Green bean casserole had a little 'kick' to it which was a nice (guessing local) spin. Meal was a good portion. Wife got the chicken and stuffing. This was an unusual presentation as it was shredded chicken in with the stuffing (separate was the minds eye)). Again a plentiful portion. My Sister and I wanted to try their Chicken Fried Steak with White Country Gravy. Food was middle of the road. I would give it a 3, but gave it a 4 for other positive points. Muffins were horrible with no flavor. They need to change that recipe. Cream Corn was very good. Fried Steak small and thin, but for price no surprise. Cafe was wide, open, and clean. Bathroom clean. Service was excellent and friendly. They have Steak, Chicken, Shrimp, Burgers, Salad, etc... We do plan to try other menu items and hope to find a favorite. read more

I'm really in no position to be passing judgement on a country style restaurant. I can tell you that I found this place while driving from Huntsville to Muscle Shoals and that I was quite pleased with my experience. I stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday and the place had a pretty good turnout. The menu had a good selection of apps, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and country style entrees. I decided to stick with a cheeseburger and tots. I was told by the waitress that the burgers are hand pressed; I can attest that they tasted pretty damn good. The prices in this place are incredibly reasonable. There was a sign on the register saying prices are going up which seems fair given how low they are at the moment. The food is southern cooking at its best. Not over salted or over cooked, just spot on awesome food. Lots of cop cars and you know they know where to eat. We had a hard time choosing our sides and you have plenty of options. So our awesome waitress brought us a sample of all the sides when our food was delivered. I love the Mexican cornbread muffin, I just wish it was a little bigger. I finished it off with homemade peach cobbler. The food service and ambiance is amazing and the best part about it is that it's close to home just off Alabama Highway 157 which goes from the Shoals to Cullman and Alabama Highway 20/US Highway 72 alternate that goes from Chattanooga Tennessee to Memphis Tennessee but goes right through the middle of Huntsville and the Shoals as well. read more

We were in Tuscumbia get some work on our motor home. Looks up some restaurants on Yelp he wanted Mama June's I wanted pizza, we flipped and he won. The service was okay especially for the prices. But the food is where we differ , he had country fried steak w/mashed potatoes and gravy, side of fried okra ,some king of beans (they were supposed to be navy , not). He loved everything except corn bread. I had two fried catfish fillets with fries , hush puppies and coke slaw. The slaw was good....the French frys were from a freezer and barely cooked and the fish tasted like it was fried in bad grease, just awful . I would absolutely never go there again! I give it a 2 hubby gave it a 3, I can't do a 2.5 so we gave it a 3. There has to be better restaurants out there. read more

We visited here while in the area on the recommendation of our host and we were not disappointed. It is southern cooking, with great friendly service. I had the fried catfish, fried okra, hush puppies and slaw, everything was fresh and hot. Some of the best catfish I have ever had, moist and tender. My husband had the hamburger steak with grilled onions and gravy, slaw, tater tots and Texas toast. Again everything was served hot and was very tasty. This is not gourmet, it is what it is. Definitely a great place to go if you want good Southern down home cooking. I had the boneless fried chicken breast with green beans, okra, and banana pudding. The chicken was tender and juicy. The green beans were cooked and seasoned well, none of that "bite left" nonsense. The okra not too greasy. The banana pudding was my only 'eh' moment simply because I like cold pudding and their's was served warm. It was sweet, had a meringue on top, didn't taste bad but I grew up with it cold and with whipped cream on top. Had I gotten the meat and 4 I probably could have had enough for an entire other meal. OK so yes the "creamed potatoes" (aka mashed potatoes) are probably instant and the veggies were probably canned...but the meatloaf was traditional and delicious with a ketchup topping and lots of crust and flavor. Hubby's chicken and dumplings were tasty as well. Our waitress was awesome - brought an extra serving of a pancake-like fried Mexican cornbread for hubby to try and kindly offered me a go cup of coffee (from the pot put on just for me since apparently southern folks don't drink coffee at all hours like we do!). But the star of the show was the pineapple casserole - pineapple cobbler served warm with just the right amount of everything cobbler goodness: elements of cake, pie, gooey, crunch & fruit. Uh yes...so that's two meals with entree, 3 sides, bread, coffee for me and a glass of milk for hubby: $17 before tip. There was an extensive dessert menu too but the meal itself did us in. It's nothing fancy and that was just fine with us. So if you're passing through and need a simple, hot meal without spending a fortune this is the place. So leave your city pants at home for once, get over yourselves, and stop on in. Grab your own menu and silverware from the old fashioned steel wash tubs by the front door, and cop a squat. Traveling through the area, Mamma Jean's was recommended to us by folks at the local Harley dealership. Large dining room with a menu that changes daily. My hubby and I both ordered the meat and 3 plate. He had a salmon patty with hominy, mac and cheese and pineapple casserole. I had a fried boneless chicken breast with mac and cheese, cole slaw and green beans with sweet tea. Honestly one of the best meals we have had in 4 years of road trips. Only downside was dry and tasteless cornbread and hubby thought salmon patty was a tad dry, too. Sweet tea was the best I've had in years. Too full for 99 cent peach cobbler! A deal at $16 plus tip.
