Not a service worth considering. We contacted them to help locate a well. Unless it is something they can detect with a metal detector - you'll need to hire your own excavator for help - before this experience we had thought that water was located underground but this company apparently has no tools or machines that can dig. Also, having inspected the pumps and tanks, they clearly indicated they could not do electrical work. Therefore, one wonders what service they might be in a position to supply. Although there are many fine properties in the Berkshires and Hudson Valley, this company seems interested in doing as little as possible to help out. A profound disappointment . read more

Just purchased a home and Claverack was the company that shocked the well to get the water test to pass for the closing of the house to go through. They negligently did not change the broken well cap. Of course after closing I come to find out that we were defrauded...the well cap doesn't seal and is full of insects and debris. Now I have to pay for the same services that were just paid for and a new cap. When I asked them why the cap was not changed they could not give me an answer. When I asked them to remediate the situation, they told me to find another company and an employee by the name of Rick told me he doesn't care what I do (because he doesn't own the business) and when I asked for a refund, he hung up on me. I left a message for the owner but that went unanswered. The thing is that well companies in New York State need to be licensed by the Department of Environmental Conservation so I have asked that their license be reviewed based on this clear ethics violation in which they did the minimum to pass the water test for the closing but took no action to protect further contamination of the well; which we cannot afford as my elderly mother is immunocompromised. read more

Not only did Claverack Pump Service resolve the infamous "Catskill clay" discoloration issue I'd been just told to put up with for far too long, they did it professionally from start to finish. First Bob analyzed my well water and based on a multitude of tests, recommended a virtually homeowner maintenance free system to replace my existing system that never really worked. The installation was completed in one day and the workmanship itself first class. If that wasn't enough, two weeks later, I received an unexpected check in the mail back from Claverack representing 12% of the Proposal, I kid you not !!!!!!!!!! I recently bought an older house that came with that smelly egg sulphur type smell. It was ever time you flushed, showered, Turned on any taps. I called Claverack and they said no problem! They installed this state of the art carbon filter which in turn cleared the smells immediately. I'm not sure how the previous owners put up with this but we couldn't. The folks at Claverack are the best in the biz. They're responsive over phone and/or email, which is awesome because email is my preferred mode of communication when it comes to scheduling contractors and most of the contractors I've worked with in the area are MIA when it comes to internet communication. They drilled a new well for me (in Preston Hollow, about 45 minutes west of Hudson) and installed a pump system. They were very easy to schedule with, did the job quickly, and were under budget. Now we have significantly better water pressure at our cabin in the woods than we do in Brooklyn! I can't recommend them more. read more

After 25 years, multiple national water treatment companies and literally thousands of dollars addressing our well water problems, we called Claverack pump. They were professional and very knowledgeable during the initial visit to evaluate our problems and existing various tanks, pumps, softeners, etc. I also called a competitor as good practice for comparison quote. Claverack followed up with a quote that was not only less expensive but also much more complete with product data, water analysis and pricing with the scope of work to be provided. I immediately signed up and took the day off to be at the house when they arrived. Bob and Adam were great to work with as they removed all old equipment (5 tanks, chlorinator and softener) and replaced with 1 air injection unit to remove the sulphur. We learned from their water analysis that the other units were not required for our water although being sold those products previously - requiring chlorine and salt on a regular basis. Removing all the old equipment regaining valuable space in our boiler room and eliminated the need to lug bags of salt and chlorine buckets - not to mention saving this ongoing cost. After putting the units into service, the guys walked us through the program and explained with the air system we have little or no maintenance. I noted that I would call them for a yearly inspection although we were shown the unit will notify us of that when due, Our water is finally what is should have been all along - no sulphur, spurting faucets, and constant need for chemicals and salt. We could not be happier with the transformation - our only regret is that we didn't "shop locally" sooner. If you have similar well water problems, or any related issues, we HIGHLY recommend Claverack Pump for your treatment. Thank you to all that helped us clean up our well water. read more

This company is GREAT. Another company recommended a $7,000.00 system to fix a smell in our water, which was caused by (harmless) algae in our pipes. Claverack flushed the system for under $250, and so far, the smell is GONE, and they even showed us how to do it ourselves if the smell ever comes back. I wish I could give "0" stars. I called Claverack Pump Service to find out about replacing my well pump. Al, the "service" tech, told me it would be about $1500 at least. He said the pump they sale is $900. I said I priced pumps online for $300-400. I then asked, "What if I bought my own pump?" Al hung up on me!!! Deliberately! I called back and got the "manager" and told him what happened. He had nothing to say. Needless to say, they wont get my business! read more

Chuck saved the day! He really saved the day because we were about to drill a new well estimated to cost 4-10K. We had 5 different companies come over and each one pronounced the well dry. Chuck from Claverack pump came over and stated that nothing made sense. We should have water. There was water in the well from his sonar, there was no leak in the pipe, and we had just replaced the well pump for $1,500 dollars. He said, "well let's take a look and see if you have a blocked valve". He found the valve but it was not easy to get apart. He took a torch to heat it up and when it came out it was jammed full of rocks. Turned out when they replaced the well pump they didn't put a screen in it. Chuck got us our water back and saved us thousands of dollars, and an untold amount of hardship. I would recommend Claverack Pump Service because of their integrity. Integrity is often thrown but they lived up to the definition: integrity: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles that you refuse to change. The other reason I will have them do other work for me is because it is often the little things that make the difference in the success of the biggest jobs. Their attention to detail means that you will save money and headaches in the long run. I don't believe we have ever faced a more daunting situation as a home owners. I hate to rate Claverack Pump so low with one star and have been wrestling with yelping on them for months but must advise others of what happened to me. What Claverack Pump did to me indirectly... was despicable where we will never hire them again. Since we have a contracting business (renovating historic and antique homes) and been flipping houses since 1993 in this area, we have used Claverack Pump over the years to fix and drill new wells, we have always trusted them for proper advise and good work until last year. Close to a year ago we had a house for sale North Red Hook area, we got an offer for the house after only a week on the market. It is a beautiful renovated antique farmhouse. I have owned the property since 1997 where is was a two family house and we renovated recently back into a single family home; over the years with tenants and owning it we NEVER had a problem with the water systems or well on the home. And, trust me, if you have tenants - you know, they would of barked if there was a problem with the water system or water pressure, etc. We NEVER got one phone call regarding the water system with two kitchens, laundry, baths running non-stop. Well...going back to the problem with Claverack Pump (which shows their true despicable colors) - we got offer on home, and inspections came. The buyers hired Claverack Pump to do the tests on the home's water system. Claverack Pump sent a young employee (that's what I was told afterwards from John at Claverack Pump - since I was not present for the inspection). Claverack Pump pumped out my well that day by running every faucet in the house for over an hour, did not by-pass my very expensive water softener & hard water system and as a result clogged up the equipment. Which I had to pay a lot of money to fix. But, worse, the young employee could not locate the well outside. And, the young employee did not wait to see recovery on the well after pumping it out or use a water flow meter to properly test the water flow. He then told the prospective buyers that they needed to drill a new well! And, told the prospective buyers that he estimated the water flow at 1 gallon per minute (keep in mind, without properly using a water flow meter). I got a copy of the report from Claverack Pump afterwards and this is what was stated. Then the young employee walked around the yard stating that the well needed to be 100 feet from house & existing septic system. Well, if the young employee knew what he was doing, he would of know: The only reason to drill a new well is if there is NO water & that since the well was "grand-fathered" into zoning, they could of drilled in existing area. But, no this was told to the prospective buyers only to sell them a new well which was unnecessary! Nothing more! So, as a result, buyers got scared and backed out of deal. Claverack Pump cost me ALOT of money because of this false information provided to the buyers and used my property as a tool to sell a new well, which was false! The reason I know this is because after hearing this about my well, I hired Hansen Pump Service out of Nassau, NY (they service the entire Hudson Valley) to come and inspect the well and water system. Guess what... Hansen Pump Service (who is awesome and very professional) located my well within 5 minutes - unlike Claverack Pump who could not locate it. (Keep in mind I was not there during the inspection on my property, otherwise I would of pointed it out and my real estate agent was useless during the inspection (that's another Yelp story!)). Hansen Pump Service then perform a proper water flow test to get the rate with a meter - ran it for over 2 hours and it registered close to 5 gallons per minute (unlike Claverack Pump who could only "estimate" it???) I asked Hansen Pump Svc, "Why would you ever need to drill a new well?" They told me "Basically, only if your well runs out of water". So - Claverack Pump should of known this basic info, but chose to use my property to sell a new well and lied to the prospective buyers. Hansen Pump Svc located my well, looked inside it and stated plenty of water and deep well. After this experience, Claverack Pump is NEVER to be trusted again! We will NEVER hire them again! I am still so mad at them, because after that the real estate community marked my house as "unsellable" with a bad well. They have cost me so much money and grief, so I am now YELPING as LOUD as I can about them!! How dare they pull a stunt like this! Are they so hard up for money? NO GOOD WORDS for Claverack Pump! We will NEVER hire them again, and always use Hansen Pump Service gong forward. Hansen Pump Svc are honest and trustworthy. Unlike Claverack Pump! Once again, like I stated above I wrestled with this to Yelp about them, but because of their dishonesty I have been paying and suffering financially because of their dishonesty and incompetence and wanted others to know the truth. read more
