Family recently bought a house with hot water heater that stopped working. No hot water, pilot would not light. The technician came right away but he called the owner even though I had specified to call me as person on premises waiting. Technician was friendly and knowledgeable and fixed the issue in about 2 minutes. It turns out he installed the unit and had been out the year before for the same thing (there is a safety that often goes out in very hot weather). This could have been done over the phone. Nothing about it in the manual. I was charged $95 just for him to pull into the driveway, and another $98 to push the button. I was never asked if I wanted him to light the pilot or was informed of the charge. I felt a bit blindsided. Very nice guy thought and quick response; I would have them back but will get the charges on the table next time before anyone touches anything. read more

Lowe has been serving my boiler for the 15 years that I've owned my home. They installed my hot water heater - in an emergency - because the old one burst. They have always been 100% reliable! They've always shown up when scheduled and the one time they missed something - they showed back up - and fixed the issue without additional charge. The technicians have explained things when we've asked - and shown us things we didn't/wouldn't know. Tip: If it's not an emergency - book well in advance - there is a wait. read more

Conrad was our technician, and he arrived when expected, caught a few issues even for our electrician, and did a beautiful job. They billed as expected, so there were no surprises. Start with my previous review. Lowe's reply to my original post is almost as outrageous as their behavior. "Emergency service"? Lowe didn't show up for 3 DAYS AND they didn't do any plumbing! The worst part is my Grandpa, Joe Woods, was the superintendent of the Kingston water dept until he retired in 1988. When he was dying he made a list of contractors for his wife Rosie. If she needed a plumber, call this guy... They ram-rodded Joe's WIDOW- MY grandmother with a scam-senior-citizen's discount the first chance they got. If they'll do that to the DPW's Superindendent's widow...What are they gonna do to you? They appear to be amoral dishonest people, not only by my claims, but in their own words- justifying "emergency service costs" when it took them 3 days to show up. read more

I need a new furnace. I called seeking a quote. I was told I would get a callback in 24-48 hours. After a week of waiting I called again. I was told he must be busy. I asked again for a call back. We ran into a problem on a Saturday and tried reaching our regular plumber but could not. We called a number of places, and Lowe was the most responsive. They sent a plumber, who arrived fairly quickly, diagnosed the problem and gave us a quote. The plumber was extremely polite and thorough. The price for coming out and diagnosing the problem was fair. The reason this is four stars instead of five is because the quote was unreasonably high. I did check around, and Lowe has a reputation for doing good work, so I have no hesitation about that, but I could not justify his price. read more

I am so grateful to Lowe for their incredible customer service and talents. Our thermostat for our propane heating system was not working properly. When it was below freezing, it said it was 80 degrees. When there was a fire in the woodstove, then it would decide to kick on. I knew we had to replace it, but was nervous because we have a very old house and electrical system. Lowe was able to come to our home the same day we called for help. They contacted us periodically during the day to let us know their ETA. Nate arrived and was as sweet as can be. He tolerated our barking dogs, our myriad of questions about the new system, and he installed it with ease, confidence and speed. We now have heat that works! I am so grateful to Nate and the Lowe team. We will certainly be using them for all of our HVAC needs. read more

We've used Lowe for our plumbing for many years thinking that their expensive bills would ensure us 'you get what you pay for' in terms of quality of labor and parts. Unfortunately our last time with them was such a disgrace we have since moved on (cheaper bills and better workmanship). We called them to replace a water heater that was failing after seven years or so (which seems to be what you can expect around these parts with our water's mineral content). The failing one had been put in by a self-employed plumber with a heater bought from a local hardware store. $1200 later the 'new' water heater was installed. Lowes makes you use their own apparently superior water heaters - they won't install anything you have bought from a hardware store despite them charging ridiculous prices for theirs - and anyone in the business will tell you that despite all the branding you see, there is only one or two companies that actually manufacture water heaters. Fast forward barely two years, and the water heater fails! We call the company who made the water heater and give the serial number only to find out that it had been sitting around at Lowes plumbing for five years previous to installation. We were told that with stock that old it will certainly degrade and wear out sooner than new stock. Make that a LOT sooner. Despite selling us an old water heater at premium prices, Lowes refused to replace it without charge. The best they would do was not charge for the labor. So $600 later, another water heater was installed to last who knows how long. At $1800, that's an expensive water heater installation. Not to mention the flooding of our finished basement and soaked Persian rugs etc. So yeah, we don't recommend the company anymore. They won't sort out any issues that come up, they'll just sell you more overpriced product. We love local business and try to find companies or people that will stand behind their work. We understand that sometimes things just don't work out and things fail, but in this case it was obvious that we were sold an old water heater at premium prices (and spun a tale about how much better it was than anything we could buy ourselves at Lowes Hardware etc which was not true). If they had done the right thing and replaced it with a new water heater without cost to us for such an early failure and for installing such an old heater, they wouldn't have lost some long term business. As it is, they didn't care at all. I guess they're big enough to lose business. read more

I had a boiler that needed service. Lowe's send a repairman at a reasonable service call rate of $90. then added a diagnostic charge of $98.... so far so good. I pointed out that I needed a new ignitor (it was cracked), which is a common repair that takes less than 10 minutes. I looked up the part online and its $60. When I was handed the written bill, Lowe's charged me $362 for the same ignitor. I understand mark-ups, but $300 on a $60 part is unethical. They are playing a game of hiding labor costs (i.e. profits) by price gouging on parts. There really wasn't a diagnosis needed because the repair was obvious, so they offered to remove the diagnostic charge... but only if I agreed to the grossly inflated part price. All said and done, one ignitor and 30 minutes of labor = $490. read more

I recently had to contact Lowe Plumbing for a clogged drain. I was very pleased with the service and the professionalism of the technician. I only deal with them with my plumbing issues as the job is done in a very reasonable time, and there is never a mess to clean up. The cost may be a bit higher than others, but you definitely get what you pay for! I highly recommend them to anyone needing any of their services. I just bought a new home, and the boiler has an integrated water heater in it. The model is an older model, Endurance, but a very good quality. I contacted Endurance to find a local certified technician to come an look at it, and Endurance steered me to Lowe Plumbing. They came and inspected it, and even given the fact it was a advanced and complicated unit, the staff from Lowe found an issue, fixed it and even came back a month later to make final adjustments to make sure it was performing correctly. I am a former employee of Jeff's and a current competitor. It pains me to see him having to defend his company and business practices here. I can assure you that Lowe is not overcharging. The rest of us are undercharging and struggling for it, some more than others. This is an expensive business to be in. Forget that a part cost $10, look at the big picture. Payroll, vehicles, advertising, building, uniforms, and on and on. Then when you have invested tens of thousands in inventory that $10 part that's there when you need it had better show a return on the investment. Jeff is fair and honest and everyone who works for him is paid a livable wage. Every environmental law gets followed, every safety rule met, every i dotted and every t crossed. I have heard people call Jeff a crook or a thief. But Jeff does what he says he's going to do at the price (and he's not the most expensive either) you agreed to. That's not crooked. There are real crooks out there at half the price. If you want a nightmare, shop for the lowest price. I've corrected an awful lot of workmanship, but I've never had to correct anything done by Lowe Plumbing. That's the real bottom line. read more

Throughout the process of a 2-year total gut job restoration of a 19th historic church; Jeff Lowe and his team were my sole saving grace. Meticulous, steady, reliable, conscientious, impressively skilled and kind technicians painstakingly rebuilt the building's entire plumbing and heating systems (including the install of a generator.) Furthermore, Jeff Lowe's team (including but not limited to Rob Reed, Jon, John, Mike, and Matthew) were entirely respectful to me as a woman overseeing this daunting project. They were the absolute exception to the rule on all fronts. Adjusting patiently to each real-time pivot as the job progressed, Jeff Lowe's team successfully ushered the 150-year-old Sacred Heart Church across a seemingly impossible finish line: certificate of occupancy and up to code after decades of total neglect. Leaking oil tanks (massive and which Governor Cuomo remarked "you have to get those out of here") and an archaic defunct furnace were removed. Jeff Lowe's steady experienced team going above and beyond the call of duty again and again. A truly impressive roster thoughtfully converted the oil-burning system to propane (complete with assisting in selecting a sound propane provider and excavation crew to bury the tank) and replaced baseboard heating with sleek cast iron. Coping with a sewage leak and subpar water pressure (among a myriad of other issues), Matthew up to his chest in the foundation whistled his way to the installation of 18c french tiles, eco Toto toilet, and Callista fixtures. At many points, Jeff and his team provided wisdom, and guidance extending beyond any paperwork. The end result is entirely spectacular, functional, and gorgeous. The contractural fairness and integrity demonstrated by Jeff Lowe remain unmatched, and I cannot honestly find the words the adequately praise the work his team accomplished. If any small issues arose, including faulty work by non-Lowe employees- his team was there deftly solving and correcting. The project quite frankly would not have been possible without Jeff Lowe Plumbing and Heating, a rare example of how a five-star business should be run. I wholeheartedly recommend this company. Worst experience! On 7/5/17 they came to fix my AC. I used it 3 or 4 times (mild summer). On 8/9/17 I came home to a warm house turned the AC on and nothing. Ok, life happens. I call and am told that I will be charged emergency fees for them to fix the AC for the second time in five weeks. Needless to say they will never see my business or that of anyone I know. And the two AC units I was planning on upgrading will be money going elsewhere. Shameful, thieving business read more

No Stars! Absolute worst customer service! I have used this company to check my air-conditioning for TEN years. The women that answer the phones and schedule appointments are rude! After confirming the appointment the day before they called me AGAIN the morning of the appointment early. I was sleeping and did not answer so they cancelled my appointment. after 6 minutes of not returning the call.Lowe is expensive and the service has always been horrible. This is the worse plumbing company, they will charge you an arm and leg and leave you with no water. DO NOT CALL THEM, THEY OVER PRICED AND TERRIBLE. They charged my parents over 6,000 and two weeks later they still have black water and a mess in there front lawn. The wanted us to pay over 1,000 to replace a bathroom sink. Worker came out was very nice however the quote he gave me to do the work(very expensive-but weekend and am a single mom not like I can do the work) was not the final bill. I got a call from the office he added wrong and the bill was an additional $75 in addition to that mistake I got an email from my credit card stating the company tried to charge my card $77,000!!! Mistake #2. I called to inform them of these mistakes and asked for a discount. I spoke to Jeff the owner letting him know these mistakes and I did not understand how the bill was broken down between supplies/labor. He explained the fee was mostly labor and it doesn't matter if the guy took 1.5 hrs(which was his time) or 5 hrs its the same fee. How is that right? Eek METHINKS NOT!!! PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR YOUR SERVICE. *They came to my house to replace a part (that I indicated to the repairman) on my heating system. *The plumber invoiced me for a $98.00 diagnostic charge for actually checking the part I asked him to check for 5-10 seconds by listening to it via his screwdriver and confirming the part was bad. * Then, he quoted a price of $799.00 to replace this pump which online I found to cost a little more than $200.00. To replace it, one needs to just remove 4 bolts and reconnect the power line. This will take around 30 minutes. *OVERPRICED AND UNSCRUPULOUS----BEWARE!!! read more

I would not recommend them to anyone. Unless you have money to throw away. We had our water pump go over the weekend. We called them, they charged us a drive out fee, and 300 bucks an hour. But the worst part was that the job was done in less than 2 hours, our well is only 50 feet deep , my husband also helped, and we were charged for 8 hours. Bill was 3500 dollars. It was a Sunday, so we did expect a weekend rate, but they knew they had us over a barrel because we had no water and 2 little children, one that has disabilities and we needed the water on ASAP. read more
