I'm not the biggest fan of Indian food, but I would give this 4 stars for the service and the food was pretty solid. I got the Vidaloo curry with a side of rice. I don't think I've tried this dish before, but it's less saucy than of the curries. Pretty good size portion for the price. I also tried the Jalapeño & Cream Cheese Naan. It was interesting, not the biggest fan of cream cheese stuffed things.

Went here tonight for a work event. We tried a little bit of everything! Great service with friendly staff and all the appetizers and main dishes were packed with flavor. Nice atmosphere inside as well. Recommend for large events or a happy hour!

After coming here for the Yelpies, I took my girlfriend to Clay Pit for dinner just before New Year's. We did not have a reservation and were sat immediately. It is a long, narrow space that feels reminiscent of an older era rather than a modern restaurant, which gives it a cozy and charming feel. We both ordered a drink, with me getting a French 75 and my girlfriend ordering one of their specialty winter cocktails. Our waitress was attentive throughout the entire visit, consistently checking in, refilling our waters, and making sure we did not need anything else. We are simple people and both ordered the Butter Chicken with Garlic Naan. I got mine spicier than my girlfriend. The food came out fairly quickly, and I finished all of mine without hesitation, while also taking a few bites of my girlfriend's Butter Chicken. I know it is a basic menu item, but it was exactly as good as one could hope. Sometimes you just want the basics done well. I do feel like it is a little pricier for what you get, and maybe pricier than it deserves, but you are paying for consistency, quality, and a more elevated Indian dining experience. I am just not sure how quickly I will be coming back. RIYL: Eating naan bread like a machine

We decided to go here on a whim and had a fun time! This place is a cute spot for dinner dates; you could definitely dress up a bit here too with their (electric) candle lit tables! I will say it gets a bit chilly so bringing a light jacket wouldn't hurt. It's dark and cozy in here! Service was great! We did not have a reservation but were seated immediately on a Sunday night. The food was yummy, it wasn't heavy, and I felt perfectly full at the end of my meal! Order: - korma with paneer - vindaloo with chicken - 2 orders of garlic naan

So I have been here twice now. The first time was a couple of years ago during our annual Austin visit and the second time was just a couple of weeks ago for the Yelpies event. When we came a couple of years ago the quality was amazing (still is I might add). The ambiance of the restaurant mixed with the incredible service and delectable food made for a most enjoyable dinner. Some of the best Indian food I have ever had. I absolutely love the cucumber salad, Chicken Pakoras, samosas, & Madras soup. Killer spot with killer vibes and even more killer food.

I had picked up DoorDash or Grubhub orders from here several times over the last decade randomly and it always looked really great and everyone always seemed to be enjoying themselves, so I was thrilled when I was invited to dinner at Clay Pit a few nights ago. I knew the atmosphere was fantastic, but now I can also say the food is delicious! My favorite dish was the Chicken Pakoras which went next level when you squeezed lemon juice all over it. The Butter Chicken was pretty good, and the Garlic naan was fantastic!

Clay Pit is a vibey restaurant that serves a variety of Indian staples and a few things that may make your ears (and taste buds) perk up. The tuna bombs are a featured item and should be on everyone's list to try. The best way I can explain it is Indian ceviche with the fresh, raw tuna being seasoned and served in a puri like chip. The sauce that comes with it truly turns it into a flavor bomb. The korma sauce is beautifully made and has the perfect balance of sweet and spice (if you get the hottest level, which I recommend). But the real star for me was the jalapeno cream cheese naan. It was so unexpected and delicious. The savory naan, spicy jalapenos, and cool cream cheese was the trifecta you didn't know could exist in Indian food. It's a must! Also, the service is impeccable! Lu is the sweetest and most patient waitress. She was able to help us answer all of our questions and made sure we had the best possible experience!

The Clay Pit is an Indian adventure! Wonderful food, a culinary experience. The wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The Service was great, It was a very busy afternoon crowd, and we still got our orders in a timely manner. Ambiance was great. Old historic stone building in downtown Austin. Very interesting! All in all..a fun and wonderful experience! Highly recommend. And they ask you what degree of heat you would like in your sauce, so it fits every palate.

The food is absolutely amazing. And so is the service. Thank you Sebe. She is professional and friendly and offered several suggestions and recommendations. It was quiet this afternoon. We had dahi puri and tandoori tudke for appetizers. Both were delicious but the tudke won hands down. Hubby and I both had old favorites, lamb vindaloo and tikka masala. First time for our son and he tried butter chicken. All the food was delicious. Added bonus is the story of the hauntings. We will definitely be back.

The Clay Pit is an Austin staple. It's delicious, consistent, and popular. So imagine my surprise when the host was rude to one of the ladies in my lunch party! She originally told the hostess we had 5 but turns out, it was actually 6. When she informed him, he huffed very loud and rolled his eyes. and this lady is the most kindest person I work with. After he set the table, she thanked him and he completely ignored her. I was immediately turned off by the experience. and shocked that someone WORKING a service job could treat someone this way. I had the lamb tikka masala and it was delicious. But I don't think it was delicious enough to be treated ugly. I also did not enjoy the fact that, if you order multiple orders of one thing (ex naan or samosas) they plate the double order together. I wanted my own personal order therefore, this was annoying when trying to divide up what was solely mine. Our server was kind but he was a bit hyper cause me to be anxious. lol. Overall, I would love to eat here again but if the host continues to treat patrons like he did today, I will not continue to patronize this place.

I've always loved Clay Pit because of one dish they make that never disappoint and that is the Chicken Tikka Masala. They perfected this dish and honestly I can not have it any where else except for here. The Chicken Tikka Masala is flavor is creamy yet not heavy and Smokey. The chicken is never dry in it. The garlic naan was lacking garlic. Not sure what happened but I felt they were stingy with the garlic this dining experience. I also notice there were not many chicken pieces in the chicken tikka masala compare to previous dining experiences here. I am not sure they are cutting cost serve less chicken but I felt there was a lot of sauce compare to chicken. My friend got the chicken vindaloo and she was not a fan of it. 1/5 Service was great and our waitress was super attentive. She refilled our drinks and often check in with us. We had made reservations for Friday an early dinner. There was plenty of tables available and hardly any crowd. The restaurant had updated some decor and added rechargeable lamps lights to each table. Do I recommend this place? Yes! Chicken tikka masala is a must try.

This place was recommended to us from a fried .We came for weekly date night, it did not disappoint. The lower level is gorgeous perfect for a date night . The server LuLu did a wonderful job with recommendations for our first visit. The appetizers were scrumptious, the entrees were made to perfection.I love exotic food full of spices and heat, this was exactly what we asked for. Drinks were also nice and refreshing. I'd love to come back and taste other dishes to put up more reviews. If you love exotic spices and flavors this is the place to try Thank you Clay pit for a wonderful evening we enjoyed the experience.

I heard great things about this place and was excited to finally try it. If you're near downtown Austin and looking for a chill vibe with good food, this spot is definitely up your alley. First, parking. It wasn't great. Even though there are nearby parking lots, they're crazy expensive. Be prepared to spend around $25 per hour. If you manage to find cheaper parking, consider that a win, but definitely plan ahead. Second, the service was great. Everyone was friendly and very helpful with walking us through the menu and explaining the different options. Lastly, the food. It was good, and let me tell you, the butter chicken is the move. Super flavorful, the chicken was tender, and paired perfectly with the rice. Add the garlic bread and it all comes together really well. We also tried the korma, which was tasty and fine, but not the best I've had before. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place and would come back again in the future.

Unfortunately, my most recent visit was extremely disappointing and honestly embarrassing. I went with two friends, and the atmosphere was completely different from what I had previously experienced. It was very crowded and felt more like a loud bar than a speakeasy. Our waiter was mediocre at best and only came to our table about three times during the hour and a half we were there (there's a time limit). Our drinks were brought by someone else, and I had to wave him down multiple times just to order or ask for water. It was clear he was much more focused on a large party than our table. When it came time to pay, my friends and I decided I would just put everything on my card. After I handed him my card and filled in the tip, he told me my card didn't work and asked the other two girls if they had a card instead. I told him it shouldn't have been declined, but I did have another card, which he took, clearly upset. That's when he told me there was a mandatory 20% tip that had to be added to the bill. At that point, I realized he had lied about my card. I had left a 15% tip because the service simply didn't warrant more, especially for what felt like bar service. He brought this up in front of my friends, who then started asking what was going on. I explained that he was refusing to run my card unless I changed the tip to 20%. Not wanting to make a big scene in front of my friends, I reluctantly agreed, even though I told him it was dishonest. To "make up for it," he later brought me a cookie. After this incident, I called the establishment at least five times and left messages, but management never returned my calls. To make matters worse, the charge from the first credit card, the one he claimed was "declined", was pending on my account for three days. So clearly it was never declined. Very disappointing. It's sad to see such a great establishment allow this kind of behavior from their staff. If you go, be aware.

My friend and I sat next to a faux fireplace, where we were greeted by the only bartender working and placed our order. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. These are moments I think why do I live in San Antonio ( and often work in Austin ) when I can just…read morelive here and enjoy great restaurants, bars and weird gothic haunts like this with weird dark goth decor, a scent of palo santo , superb music, a great crowd and amazing drinks! College me would have lived here !! Enjoyed a French 75, my husband enjoyed a smoked Old Fashioned and it was a great place to grab a drink prior to seeing Springsteen at the Moody seated amongst candles , a weird alter of sorts while enjoying some Stevie Wonder as is playing now though some weird NIN or Type O might have been more appropriate

I went to Whisler's and had one of the worst bar experiences I've ever had…read more I had one drink. I was completely sober for all intents and purposes. The bartender claimed I was drunk and cut me off anyway. I was at the bar talking to a girl while waiting to get a drink (the wait was long because the service is very slow, despite the bar not being very busy at all). She was clearly into me, and the bartender kept jumping in trying to talk to her too (instead of doing his job making drinks). He was doing all sorts of things to try and flirt with her and make her laugh: pulling out and showing her buckets of pre mixed cocktails, running and sliding under the bar, etc. She was engaging with both of us , and right in the middle of that, I get cut off out of nowhere. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there. I'm not coming back.

I felt the vibe instantly, like as soon as I put one foot in the door. Magical, sophisticated, worldly, wonderful and more were the feelings that spontaneously hit me. The dark and elegant decor, lighting, design, & layout made me feel as though I were in a high-end Tokyo cocktail lounge. The front room as I mentioned is an intimate bar and lounge area with artwork adorning the walls. It's a modern, minimalist, and sleek space. The artwork is ever-changing (every couple of months or so) and the cocktail menu changes right long with it. Note: artwork is available for purchase. What an absolutely glorious way of combining different mediums (liquid art vs physical art). The craft cocktails & mocktails are the epitome of works of art. I've had great cocktails and mocktails elsewhere but honestly I'd be hard pressed to find anything on this level. You're taken into an entirely different realm just watching the genius of mixologists. It's mesmerizing watching them hone their craft. In the back of the lounge is an enclave of eclectic art and other pieces that then leads you to Konbini, the sushi bar. It's an industrial, warehouse vibe with a long counter that screams hip, Tokyo inspired, late-night eatery. Service is impeccable and welcoming at this cosmopolitan venue. It's truly an amazing experience.

The bartenders are incredibly talented and creative. It's so fun to sit at the bar and watch them craft the specialty drinks. They had a clarified mai tai with tequila that I loved the first visit and the signature papercut cocktail is refreshing and delicious too! On my recent visit, I tried the balkan negroni and WOW - so good. And so detailed! Really sweet people and a very cool space. Great music too and just a perfect ambiance. 10/10.
