Omg! I took my husband here for a date night and I can't stop thinking about it! We sat at the bar and David took care of us. He was so lovely to talk to and gave the best suggestions. He was definitely not wrong when he said anything we choose we will love. The HH has all of the items on the menu for $5 which is fabulous. It is not a huge menu but a great one to start off with a cocktail, beer or snack before you dive into the full menu. Everything we tried was full of flavor from the cocktails to the naan. I had to buy 2 naan's to take home because I couldn't leave my leftovers so sad and missing the great pairing. My husband and I split everything. We started with the HH samosas which came in a set of 2 (perfect, we each got one and didn't have to fight over them). Then we got the Saag gravy with shrimp and the chicken Tikka. My husband favored the Saag and I favored the tikka but both were well balanced and FULL of flavor. We ended with a cocktail each. The queso was too salty and thick but the other dishes had good flavor; sizes were fairly small for the price and choices were also lacking. Flavors were good but didn't blow me out of the water. Service was also very slow for almost no one being there on a Sunday. That also dampened the experience. This new trendy indian place in east Austin has some charm but definitely could take some time to grow. As soon as you walk in, the decor is striking and has a lot of charm. We ordered their self proclaimed popular curry queso and the lamb chefs special. While both tasted good, they were so oily. Just dripping with oil. It was a little nauseating but after draining out some of the oil, the flavors were very strong and great. They paired really well with their garlic naan as well. One thing to mention though is that while the staff were very friendly, the service wasn't as attentive as I would have liked it to be. The portions were generous and the value was solid, but overall the food was just okay. The naan was soggy and not light and fluffy like I'm used to. Service was the biggest drawback. At 5:30pm with only a few other diners, our server took forever to take our order and gave off the vibe that we were bothering her. I took my son here for his birthday last week and we really enjoyed the food and the experience. It isn't clear where to park but there is street parking and a dirt lot that we think is okay to park in, but we parked on the street a block behind the restaurant just to be safe. The food was a unique/fusion take on Indian food. We had the pork vindaloo, saag paneer, samosas, curry queso, and curry chicken panini. Everything tasted fresh. We of course had leftovers! The mango lassi rum drink was like but a little strong of a rum flavor and the mezcal/tamarind cocktail was just the right amount of sweet. We also got the chicken naan and the saag paneer sandwich. The chicken was chewy and probably fried too long, although the flavor was reasonable. The saag paneer had no flavor to speak of; it came across as a big lump of cheese and paneer thrown between two slices of bread. Ahh, I like fusion restaurants. While Austin misses the mark with authentic Indian and indo Chinese restaurant, these guys do a good job. Went here with office colleagues after a long week. Cocktails - I think they could do better. I'd probably give them a 4/5 here. They could definitely go bolder in their flavor profile. I'd recommend the pudina Marg and the kabutat. Started with the cucumber and tomato salad, which was a great appetizer, lightly spiced and refreshing. I know this spot is more of a modern take on indian but the naan didn't feel authentic at all- almost tasted more like pita. If you're not familiar with the neighborhood, it can be hard to spot the entrance to Electric Gravy. The facade is reminiscent of a brick office building. Fear not, they've got a visible sign hanging on the building. The exterior has a nice patio area for outdoor eating. The interior decor is light and fresh with total vibes of India throughout. The staff are beyond amazing. Wow. Just some really great folks. There's a long bar with seating as well as standard seating. The food is brilliantly curated by infusing the most fragrant Indian flavors giving everything a wildly delicious taste. The prices are fair and reasonable, especially during happy hour. They've got a happy hour menu with select apps, entrees, and cocktails for just five bucks! The Kachumber salad is one of the best I've ever had. I could eat it everyday! Samosas are perfectly cooked and not dried out like they can be at other establishments. The chutney grilled cheese is crazy good. The pork vindaloo made me feel like we were actually in India! However, as an Indian person, I think my standards for Indian food are pretty high and I think it missed the mark. The saag paneer grilled cheese was good and the fries were ok but the chana masala was one of the worst Chana masala's I've ever had. I think I've found my favorite Indian restaurant close to downtown! I visited Electric Gravy on their second day of being open and everything went great. Service was fast and our waiter was very attentive. The food was also really good. We got the curry queso, saag paneer, and the kabutar and pudina pani marg. Queso is never bad, but this was not worth the spend in money or calories. Their saag curry was really good, but nothing too much beyond my local takeaway. The samosas, however, were a step above. I think they were double-fried or something was different with the batter than the standard version. And the filling was amazing. The service was good, although they did bring literally all of our food at once - that was a little weird. The ambience was nice, slightly hip, but nothing that blew me away. The drinks really shine here. I like grabbing a couple of nice drinks before I go out on the town and consume god knows what. The frozen lassi is delicious. Sweet, but I could finish one on every visit and then move onto the next drink. The Kabutar was very good too. It had some flavors I wasn't used to having in a drink, such as tamarind. Having been jaded from the upscale drink options in town, I was quite surprised in that regard. As far as food goes, the finger foods were my favorite. You have to get the Pakora. There are times when I hate fried food, but this was so delicately fried that the batter and salt weren't overwhelming. It pairs really well with a cold beer or drink. The Fried Chicken on Nann was another one of my favorite. Tikka masala was good, but don't expect it to be styled like most other restaurants. I found it to be more mild and had a smokey element to it. The Grilled Paneer was addicting, it left me wishing I could have a velveeta sized brick of it.
