    Wheelthrowing road rash. Super painful!

Update: the studio reached out to me and were very kind about the situation and appropriately apologetic. Overall, I'd say the people there and my interactions with them were all very pleasant. I'd recommend their classes to others with a note: if the clay feels too sharp, ask for another batch!

I recently took Next Steps with Chris here and wanted to update my review because I'm a huge fan of the new glazes at this studio! Chris and the other instructors that subbed (Jonah & Anika) were great and I feel like I improved a lot in this class. I've never tried making a lidded jar and it was so humbling and fun to try! My cylinders and handles also improved and I made a lot of pieces that I'm really happy with and use every day. My favorites glazes were: - Plum under Koke Yellow on Moroccan Sand - Niji Black under Ling's Green on Electric Brown - Koke Blue under Magical Mist on Moroccan Sand - Colonial White under Purple Haze on Moroccan Sand: Purple Haze isn't food safe so I glazed a vase and the outside of a bowl - Paula's Pink on Moroccan Sand - Ling's Green on Electric Brown/Moroccan Sand - Spanish Brown under Morning Glory Blue on Speckled Buff - Purple under Koke Yellow on Electric Brown

Clayroom SOMA has an amazing space for potters & artists! I enrolled in one of their "intro to clay wheel"classes & have absolutely loved it so far! They offer a wide variety of classes - like woodworking, slipcasting, and hand building. They also offer memberships for potters looking for a home base. The space is open and airy and the teachers/staff are so helpful & inviting even during non-class hours. One thing I love about this studio is their long hours, they open at 10am everyday and are open late on the weekends. This gives me a lot of opportunities to go into the studio and practice on my schedule. Easy to reach via email. I can't wait to take more of their classes and will 100% recommend to anyone looking to stretch their creativity!

We had a team building event here and the experience was amazing, educational and hardwork! No experience needed! Who knew a potter's wheel would be such a challenge to learn! Our small group of 5, received a lot of "teacher time" from the wonderful Kelly. She really took the time to teach us about the potter's wheel, showing us how "easy" it is to use. Lesson time with her was amazing!! We were each given aprons and each sat behind a potter's wheel in the room. The wheel was dirty, messy fun & I enjoyed every moment. Following our time on the potter's wheel, we went to another room to learn about sculpting & molding red clay. Another "looks easier than it actually is" activity! Before us, on our table was a 1/2" thick slab of red clay about a foot long. There were all kinds of tools available to cut the clay and cookie cutter type molds, impression patterns & rolling pins to make imprints on the clay. Definitely much cleaner than the potter's wheel, but your hands turn a little red from the clay. We were also given a tour of facility, shown the firing room and Kelly explained the glazing/firing process in the kiln. Overall, this experience was unbelievably fun and we each walked away with multiple pieces of pottery. This is a great place to for hands on clay making.

Highly recommended. No experience required. If you have no talent, prior pottery exposure or artistry like myself, take some classes for addictive fun. If you are an expert potter, there are also highly experienced and inspiring students and members. I have never 'potted' before, but started my first beginners class a short 9 months ago. I have continued with the wide variety of classes (missing the occasional session due to travel), but am pleased with noticeable improvement that comes with practice. This is a wonderful studio with lovely staff/teachers and some extremely helpful and encouraging members. The classes are varied and studio open hours are great. They also hold some fantastically fun events!

I helped organize a team work offsite here, and we had a great experience! Booking and coordinating with them was easy and seamless. They were able to accommodate our large group (~25). Mostly all of us were new to wheeling throwing and it was a great intro for our 2 hour session. We learned the basic process and techniques were able to make some cool bowls, cups, plates, etc. The instructors were very welcoming and helpful during the instruction and in going around and assisting our group. Looking forward to coming back to pick up our works of art and seeing how our pieces came out.

Love this spot. I've been to a few ceramics studios in the city and by far, this is the most welcoming and personal.

    Ask the Community - Clayroom

How's parking in the area? Is it easy to park on week nights or weekend mornings?

Yes. There is plenty of paid street parking (free after 6pm and on Sunday) in front of Clayroom on 9th, and some free spots along Harrison.

Very concerning experience…read more (Understandable) We visited Palace Games recently and were instructed by staff to place all personal belongings in a designated basket area before entering the game. The basket was located outside of the game room and remained out of our sight for the entire duration (~2 hours). (Incident) After the game, we discovered that a wallet valued at $1000+ (including cash and multiple cards such as ID and credit cards) was missing. Based on the noticeable weight difference before and after, we were able to reasonably determine that the item went missing during the game time. (Their Action) We requested assistance immediately and asked to review surveillance footage. Initially, we were told that the footage would need to be "retrieved through a third-party vendor" and that we would be contacted later -- however, no one followed up. The following day, after multiple attempts to reach them, we were informed that the "vendor was unavailable (PTO) "and the footage could not be accessed at this point. Later, a manager called and stated that there is no recording at all (⁉), only live monitoring on site. When we asked for confirmation of this and whether we could document the conversation, the call was abruptly ended Subsequent attempts to follow up have gone unanswered. Additionally, on the game day, we felt rushed to leave immediately after the game ended, even though our scheduled end time was 4:00 PM and it was only around 3:45 PM at that point. This made it more difficult to properly check our belongings around the game area. We followed all instructions provided by staff, yet there appears to be no secure storage, no accessible review process, and no clear accountability when something goes wrong. Their responses were inconsistent and changed over time. the incident has NOT yet been addressed at this point. We are sharing this experience for transparency regarding how personal belongings are handled and how incidents are addressed. Update: The owner has reached out to us, apologized, and showed us the available surveillance footage. The footage only covers the lobby and hallway areas and does not include the room where personal belongings are placed, so it was not possible to determine what happened. We appreciate the follow-up and the owner's sincere attitude. However, this situation highlights that the designated storage area for customer belongings currently has no surveillance coverage or secure storage. We hope additional measures (such as lockers or better monitoring) can be implemented in the future to prevent similar incidents. While we acknowledge their efforts to address the situation, we are keeping our original rating to reflect our experience.

The best Escape room in San Francisco! So immersive and fun!…read moreWe took the family and everyone enjoyed it (although not the most interesting for very young kids). I'd say the Edison room is my favorite so far. The thoughtfulness in clues and gags are amazing!! You really get what you pay for here- it is expensive for what it is but the level of detail has far surpassed other escape rooms I've seen. A+ for the props department!
