This is absolutely worth your time and money! My gf and I have been wanting to take a woodworking class for the longest time. I stumbled upon Wood Thumb online, loved all the classes they had to offer and we booked and attended the "wedge table" session. It was awesome! First of all, Chris is a gem - super nice and patient. The shop itself is so cute - such a cool vibe overall. Chris was so knowledgable and really took the time to answer questions and make the experience super interactive and personal. I loved the way this class was formatted - learned a lot and had so much fun! Not to mention, the wedge table is so cute. We each made one and now have two for our home! It was my first time hearing about Woodthumb, and I wanted to try something different during the week. I signed up for their cutting board class, and it was such a great experience! Wood Shop Class; + Picture Frame Cost: - $150 ish Instructor: + Chris Our group of 4 came in on Tuesday, 12/19 for a 6PM Picture Frame class. Great activity if you enjoy working with your hands. Picture Frame Class is a beginners class, so it all felt pretty simple and straightforward. I felt comfortable and safe working with the tools. Chris goes through safety and handling very throughly, and the tools are all guarded with templates to make certain cuts even safer. I loved learning about easy and hard cuts, different kinds of woods, and how to properly cut wood (speed, motion). Who knew sanding could be so therapeutic? I'm of an age where wood shop was a class in high school. As a teen we had access to actual large pieces of dangerous machinery to cut, shape, bind and frame wood projects. We built sets for plays and then deconstructed them. If you didn't and are jealous then call Chris and his crew at the Wood Thumb. Bring your friends, bring your staff for a team building outing, bring a date and take home a bedside table! I was working on a small project for the place and I needed a chop saw. Found Chris online and as soon as I entered the shop the comfort of the smell of the place enveloped me, freshly cut wood. This place is awesome. With shop time and support you can set up for your own projects or classes to build cool take home furnishings, I can't recommend this place enough. I haven't written a yelp review in years but I had to bc I absolutely love this place. They helped me with my project and instead of getting my brother a custom made oak cutting board for him and my sister in-laws new place I'm going to make one for them at the Wood Thumb. My work team did a workshop here recently and we built cutting boards and knife holders! Chris ran our workshop and he was amazing--incredibly helpful, attentive and knowledgeable. As a first timer doing any sort of woodworking but had high interest in learning, Chris shared a lot of great info about wood, tools and safety guidelines. I was initially a bit scared of the miter saws and drills, but his guidelines and support was really helpful in overcoming that! I was able to get my cutting board made, and I love how it turned out! We also ended up getting the bottomless craft beer and laser engraving add on, and my team definitely used more of that up. I highly recommend doing a woodworking class at the Wood Thumb! read more

I appreciated the instruction and guidance throughout the class and it was a great way to destress from a work day. The only downside of their new Mission St. location is the parking. Wood Thumb and Chris are awesome! The group had the choice of making a cutting board/cheese board or a magnetic knife rack for our workshop. Included, he had La Croix and pretzels for us before machine work, and then we got Anchor Steam after. Great pieces at the end. Beautiful walnut wood. Definitely a beginner class, but a good time. One thing I appreciated was that for people that may not know a lot about hard and how to wood work, Chris did an amazing job explaining and talking about the properties of wood and which woods would you use and showing the group the various tools and techniques. Super friendly! I would recommend people to try Wood Thumb! And I would want to try another workshop. read more
