She breaks down the steps nicely, gives great pointers, and is overall just a wonderful teacher. Clayroom is well-run, clean, and has the prettiest glazes. I wanted to love Clayroom but the staff here are rude, hostile and unprofessional. They berate their students and members and approach questions with hostility and arrogance. One staff member raised their voice and used intimidating language when I asked a routine question. If safety and a supportive environment are important to you, steer clear of this place. read more

Signed up for a 1 day class here and it was really fun and informative! Signed up on their site and I think it was about $100 for a 2 hour class. The instructor walked us through the process step-by-step and then we were able to choose 2 pieces to keep. The class size was very small (3 students total, including me) which made it easier to get feedback and help from the instructor. The studio itself is also very nice and spacious, and I saw a lot of other people working individually in open studio. read more

What an amazing experience! Our 7 year old has been wanting to try wheel throwing, but it's been difficult to find a class that allows younger kids/isn't too late in the day. For his birthday, I took him to Clayroom for the try day class on Saturday and we had the best time. The class was easy to follow and they teach you step by step with a demonstration before everyone starts on their own projects. Our instructor was kind and so helpful with the little one. By the end, you get to keep 2 pieces that they help you glaze and fire. Ive never done wheel throwing before and happy that this was my first experience. We can't wait to see our finished pieces in a few weeks! Helpful note: the studio is pretty busy and it was difficult to get a response by phone. We ended up going in person to sign up for the class, but were told that email is best form of contact! read more

We went to Clayroom Soma for a team building activity for my HR team. Mayeta worked with us for the activity and she was amazing! We signed up for the wheel throwing and hand building activity which was so much fun. I highly recommend this event! First we worked on the hand building activity and I built a mug and a couple of plates. This was a super fun activity and a bit easier than the wheel activity. They provided molds of items we could build as well as prints we can use on our items. Then after the hand building activity we moved over to the wheel throwing. I've always wanted to try wheel throwing and was so happy to do it here. It always looked so easy in the movies but it is definitely harder than it looks. Mayeta was patient with us so that was awesome. She helped me build a couple of dishes and I was so thankful. Clayroom is a fun and inviting place. Wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty because they are definitely getting dirty here but so worth it. Have fun! read more

Emily is a truly stellar instructor and made our experience an amazing one! My friends and I signed up for a one-time Try Day for wheel throwing. It was a 2-hour session where Emily gave us a very thorough demo, then assisted us as we attempted to throw our own pieces. She was extremely patient, helpful, and fun to talk with during the class - she really stood out as someone who loves sharing her craft with others. This is such an affordable way to try out wheel throwing without committing to a multi-week session, and this class made me fall in love with ceramics. I've taken a few other one-time classes around SF, and Emily was by far the best teacher I've had. She definitely made things accessible and we had a blast learning from her. We were all really happy with the cups and bowls that we made here, and it really is all because we had an amazing teacher. Thank you, Emily, and thank you Clayroom! read more

Went here for a class for my work. It was a lot of fun and we had plenty of time to work on our creations. We each were given about 2 hours and we were able to put two of our creations into the furnace. I appreciated all the help we got throughout the process and the tips we were given when we got stuck. It was chill vibes and fun to do with a group of people and still be able to chat with your friends while working the clay. read more

Took a class here last year. Had to call it off because of a medical issue. Their website CLEARLY mentioned refunds would be processed incase of a medical problems (they have changed their policies now). I was busy running to ERs and unable to attend. I wasn't even asking for a refund, mostly that I be allowed to take another session next month after I have healed. They said no, can't do we're losing money because of pandemic, won't do. I'm an artist myself and didn't want to screw them. In hindsight, it was very shitty of them and I just didn't have the energy to run behind them then. So, honestly ONLY commit if you 100% can see the future and know you'll have no kind of issue in the future making you defer classes, because this studio doesn't care. read more

I took their 6 week beginners class with Ali, and I loved it. Ali and the whole staff are amazingly helpful and friendly. You get access to the studio every day throughout the 6 weeks if you want to go practice. They provide the tools, a huge range of glazes, underglazes and clays. People are friendly and the environment itself is chill and just what you would want to kick back and create! They take health and safety seriously, they inform you upfront on how to work in the studio while keeping you and everyone around you safe. I believe they also refrain from using toxic glazes. *COVID-19* I took this class from mid August to end of September 2021, their covid policy is comforting, everyone is required to show proof of vaccination and wear masks. The size of the studio allows you to stay a bit distant if that's what you want. Shout out to Ali and Emily, I loved the class and look forward to coming back soon! read more

Beautiful studio, large open and filled with light. It's amazing to see all the talented artists in the space. I took a 6-week class and learned a ton. Neil and his team are amazing teachers and really value seeing people develop their crafting skills and a sense of community. Haven't even been able to experience this amazing hobby due to their unprofessionalism. My sisters and I wanted to join their Friday one sessions and a couple issues arose. First of all the first ticket we ordered didn't arrive with a confirmation number. My sister tried to schedule the reservation to a way later date and at first everything went fine till they completely ghosted her. Not answering phone calls or emails. We are trying to get a refund for three tickets, which is pricey and they won't even respond. After a week and 5 emails still no answer. We still wanted to go but after a week, we decided this is annoying and stressful. If this is how we are getting treated after paying, imagine how it will be during the session. I don't recommend. read more

I really love this studio and their classes. I've learned a lot from the instructors and I enjoy the studio space. When you enroll in a class, provide you with clay, unlimited studio time, and weekly classes. Taking advantage of the studio time has been the biggest factor in my growth as a student, but also getting input from the instructors on my work is really helpful. Everyone is nice, friendly, and the space they've cultivated is relaxing and enjoyable. read more
