Let me start by saying that I have been a long time customer of Clay's. I have purchased a zero turn mower & numerous pieces of Stihl equipment, as well as utilizing their service department. But my recent experience for the repair of a Stihl Kombi hedge trimmer was vert disappointing. On my call ahead and at drop off, there was no mention of needing the head unit to service. I run several other attachments, so I needed it to be in service while I waited for repair (quoted as 2 weeks). The next day I received a text that a Stihl dealer had no way of attaching it to a unit. So, I made my second trip there in 3 days to deliver the unit. I received a text to pick up the equipment and my request for blade sharpening was not "noted on the ticket" or performed. And to top it off, upon attaching the unit at home, the head is on almost backwards. I reached out to the general manager via text, Mr. Mack McCorkle, and there was no accountability taken, instead telling me that I did not review my service ticket & the head was brought in that way. At the end of the day, the head adjustment is simple, but what's really disappointing is the lack of accountability or customer focused service and offers to rectify the situation. This place is a huge rip off. You bring a mower in for something is simple as a wheel replacement and you end up with a laundry list of other issues which raises the repair price to the point of where it makes more sense to buy a new one, when the one in question is and has been properly maintained. This company lacks the appropriate level of communication responses, and bottom line, they are down right rude. Will NEVER use them again. For all I care, they can take the mower in their possession and shove it given their lack of professionalism. read more

We paid for The Cutter Club service. Which includes Lawn mower pick and delivery for servicing. Also includes preference for servicing within 10 days of pick up or a loaner mower would be offered. My Zero-turn mower has been there since Dec 1. After 13 days we called to check on it and was given a run around story about it hadn't even been looked at because they were so busy. Not a call or an offer for a loaner mower. After a few more days we get a call saying that all the pulleys were bad and needed replacing. The service and repairs were going to be $1900. They said it looked like the mower had been used for commercial use. We do not own a business. We cut our own grass. After talking to several different service managers and office mangers and counter people. And still every time we mentioned a loaner which is part of the Cutter Club that we paid for, it was brushed over and never offered even after we mentioned it. Then the manager told me they have so many Cutter Club members it's hard to get to them all. Poor Customer service here. The Cutter club is not cheap and they didn't honor their end of the clutter Club contract. I would not recommend Clays Equipment in Raleigh. If I could give them zero star I would. Had to get a service on our Honda lawnmower. The work was well done and the mower works great. But there's one older sounding gentleman there who has taken to being borderline abusive on the phone, and hangs up on people rather than speak to them (has happened multiple times with the same guy on two different service occasions). As a result I won't shop here again - whoever the older gentleman is that yells at customers is clearly not in need of my patronage. And just in case you're thinking i must have started it, nope - I had no complaints at all - I simply asked a couple of questions to understand what was found, so I was very surprised and disappointed at the treatment. read more

My husband bought supplies for damage done to our house in Boone. We ended up going another route. Husband called Mark, we were told the chainsaws could not be returned but other unused equipment they would take. Today they only took a few items. The Manager was very clipped and rude. Complete nightmare. Customer beware. I took my power washer in for a tune up, paid $50 in advance. Gave very specific instructions that if something else was wrong, just give me a call before doing additional work. More than a month went by and I heard nothing so I called them and was told I could pick it up anytime but there was a $75 balance due. I objected to that because I gave specific instructions not to do more without just giving me a call. The people there said they would not give me my property back without paying the additional $75. I asked to escalate, was offered my property back for half of the $75. I told them no, and then eventually, more than a week later, I was told to just come pick it up. Went by several times and they were not open or no one was available and time did pass due to an illness. a full 3 months went by with me stopping by a couple times but then I did get sick and had to spend some time taking care of myself. Finally when I was able to get someone on the phone, they told they had "scraped" my power washer months ago. I asked why would they scrap a supposedly working power washer and never once called, texted, or emailed. Was told they have a sign that says it is their property after 30 days and since it took more than 30 days without me paying initially, I had no recourse. I continued to escalate and was told my power washer was gone but they would sell me someone else's power washer that had not been picked up for 30 days. They said I would have to pay $125 to get someone else's used power washer with no guarantee it worked. No way I would go for that. Continued to escalate to the owner. He was super rude and yelling at me, flat out lying about the situation and made it very clear he was keeping my $300 power washer(which was probably already sold to someone else) and the $50 I paid for the tune up. Not only was this a clear case of bait and switch but they stole my property and then tried to sell me someone else's stolen property. This is blatant fraud and I am considering my other legal options. Just absolutely blown away by this level of corruption and crookedness in a Cary business. read more

I have purchased several pieces of outdoor equipment from Clay's. Friends ask why not go to a "Box" store where it "may" be a little cheaper. I tell them I go to Clay's for the customer service and expertise of their employees. Yesterday I took a blower in that was giving me some trouble. Dustin helped me with my problem and within a few minutes I was out the door and back in the yard working. He completely justified my feelings about doing business with Clay's. When you need repair work you want a place where the people working there are professional, knowledgeable, focused on customer service, and convenient to your home or place of work. worst customer service, brought a part in, and the guy didn't even try to match it, (it was a simple clip). Then I ask for a tube for the tire, he stated he didn't know the size, even through the tire was a Toro tire with the size on it. I really went there to buy another larger mower, after the poor customer service I was getting, I just left. read more

I bought the Stihl FS130R after explaining to Gene what my usage needs would be, he shared his personal story that he had bought the smaller version and wished he had the FS130R. While more money, the adage you get what you pay for held true. It is so powerful I can run at half throttle and do twice as much or go full throttle and let her do what needs trimming while decelerating. Stihl(pun intended) a happy customer, again! read more

I needed a belt for my mower, I brought the broken one to Clay's to see if they had one, was told by service guy that he needed a part number to be able to help me out as it was just too much work for him to look, he then refereed me to a competitor of theirs. I ended up going to a auto parts store a couple miles away and after about 5 mins. of them looking for the size I needed I was on my way home with a new belt.
