Place is always clean, the barber usually has something playing the people waiting for a cut. I like all the haircuts I get from here.

In the search for a new barber after my place closed, I landed here. I wanted to find something…read morecloser to home but I couldn't resist the buzz and five star reviews Barber & Shave Shoppe was getting. My barber was Ashley D Page (there were two Ashely's so the last name is for clarification). She did a great job on my hair. She listened to what I wanted and executed. It kind of bothered me for some reason that she would never remember who I was. After going a few times and having personal conversations (I even bought her a sub one day because she said she never tried DB's Cheesesteaks across the street) you would think that person would at least remember that she's seen you in real life before. She did give an amazing cut though and was fun to chat with so I let it slide... haha. I love being able to use an app to see available times and book right there, but I don't like that it would often only give me the option to book a cut with Ashley and have someone else do the shampoo/scalp massage. Obviously it's the available booking times and the computer isn't going to have overlap but I appreciate going through the whole process with one person and I could rarely book it that way. Even when I did, I was sometimes passed off to someone else because they were running behind. When it came time for my next cut, I logged into the Vagaro app to book an appointment and there was nothing available... for anyone. I did some Googling and Facebook stalking to find out that a bunch of barbers all left around the same time. Maybe a mutiny of some sort... I don't have the deets. I thought about booking another appointment with someone else but I was turned off by the manager/owner commenting on the Facebook posts that stylists walked out on customers leaving them high and dry. Maybe that happened, maybe it didn't but either way, it's not a good look to be badmouthing your former employees on social. I found out that Ashley landed at Broad Street Barber which I'm not a fan of (personal reasons that may not be an issue for you... feel free to see my review) so I decided not to follow her. It seems that BSS has hired new barbers and are back on track. No real issue for me with the quality of the shop and their cuts but after the fallout they had, I think I'm moving on to a fresh start elsewhere.

I've had 2 haircuts here in the past month and have been quite pleased. I'm not a huge fan of the…read moreonline booking as the first appointment I set up apparently never confirmed. I'm glad I called the day before to check as I didn't get an email or notification as I wasn't in there system and they had to make the appointment for me. With that being said I arrived on time the following day and was warmly greeted. They offer you a beverage upon arrival, the first time I declined and the second I had a water. They have soft drinks and coffee but secretly I wish they had beer available like some other places on town. Now for the cut..... both times I would give them a solid 8.5/10. The barbers listened and advised as well and definitely have me on the path I want to be on. I guess I was hoping for a cleaner cut... less stray hairs maybe a touch more even and dialed in. All and all the staff is super friendly, the haircut is a good one, and they are prompt with the appointment times which I really appreciate. Both times I got beard trims as well, although the first time the beard trim was $10 and just a few days ago it was $12 added to the price of the haircut. On my first visit my barber recommend a nice beard product for me and it has certainly helped!!! Thank you

I do not recommend this salon…read more Melissa at CHS was very nice at first. I'm a redhead, and I know it can be complicated. She and the owner took an hour to mix the base color. Red flag. Why is the owner involved? Why is this taking so long? I've never had a colorist take an hour to mix my color. At one point the owner was pointing out different colors and suggested that we go with one color that was fairly dark red. I'm wondering if they need a colorist course. Getting nervous. I pointed to two other colors that were lighter and said I do not like this color and if I leave with my hair this color I'll be very disappointed. Well, two hours later, sure enough the base color was this reddish brown color that I had pointed out that I do not want. I told them, it looks very dark. Then they took pictures of the highlights on top of my head in bright sunlight to show me how light. They only took pics of my highlights. Why are they trying to prove it's ok? I said I'd look in my light at home and call. I called the salon back next day and asked for a redo. They said that they would try to fit me in and give me some copper highlights to pull through so it wouldn't seem so dark. I agreed. Meanwhile though, they can't seem to fit me in. It's been almost 3 weeks since the color problem. I find my hair very unattractive and don't want to wait any longer. At this point I'm upset. I paid $240.00 + tip for the color and a trim, blew my own hair dry and have ugly hair. I just texted. To please refund half - what she quoted for custom color base. 120.00 - and I'll have it fixed elsewhere. No response. I'll update this review if I get a response. I'm hoping to get the credit and move on. I texted the salon owner to call me. No response.

I went to the younger lady and she was so lovely and a wonderful person but absolute worst blow dry…read moreof my life. I thought that I got a good haircut, despite trying to get her to dry my roots first so that we wouldn't need a whole hour to dry my hair. I have fine delicate but slightly thick hair that she spent forever drying because she refused to dry my roots and kept saying how long it was taking and how damp my hair was (listen to your clients for gods sake). She had no strength, no tension in her hands and it felt like a child was playing with my hair while I was slowly getting cold and damp because my roots were still damp for a whole hour of fooling around. That's not even the worst part because I thought I had a decent haircut until I got home and moved my center part off center only a couple centimeters... I asked for my long grown out bangs to be trimmed to jaw/chin length and instead I got actual bangs (I didn't want bangs I just wanted some face framing from my natural very long grown out old bangs JUST UNDER MY JAW (no bangs in photo because I'm already embarrassed enough to be making this review. I just straightened my hair and split it half and half and I have started crying again at how there's several different lengths and my beautiful hair is butchered. Even though it's shiny and needed all that cut, the way it was butchered affects the way the hair strands lay. They offered to fix it but how could I ever trust anyone in that building with a sharp object again? Why would I lose even more length and force myself to have even more bangs and be even farther from what I want? No. I will cry until I dont feel like it anymore and I'm lucky that this is the worst haircut that I've ever had. Maybe she was distracted or maybe I talked her ear off. Nothing is pretty about this haircut except the fact that my hair is just a regular kind of pretty. It's been hacked and here's the picture to prove it. The kindness and hospitality was like any salon that wants to keep business, pretty good but nothing to write about.
