My wife likes to get her car washed here. Clean Wheels Autowash is fast, convenient, and a reasonable value. We found this place because we drive by it frequently. It's located just off Highway 54 near the Chapel Hill-Durham border. You can see it from 54. It's next door to a Valero gas station with a Dunkin' Donuts. My wife likes to get the Ceramic Finish for $25. After tax, it's $26.88. It includes "LUMINAURA" Ceramic Shine, "Hot Wax and Shine," tire shine, undercarriage wash, Rain-X, clean rims, "spot-free" rinse, and bug prep. We do notice an immediate difference after this service, but I'll also be real -- it's just a decent, basic wash. I don't know what they mean by "Hot Wax and Shine" because it's not a true wax, nor should you expect one for 25 bucks. The Rain-X included in this service isn't like a true Rain-X treatment if you or a detailer were to do it manually. I think it's more like the Rain-X that's in windshield washer fluid (it doesn't do much). The "tire shine" isn't like one you'd get from a real detailer. The shine isn't as thorough/complete nor does it last long. Better than nothing though. Anyway, if all you want is a quick, basic wash that doesn't break the bank, this place suffices. They wash one car at a time. After pulling up to the gate arm, selecting which service you want, and paying at the kiosk, you'll pull forward where humans start the washing process (pre-wash). After that, you enter the machine wash with your car in neutral and your foot off the brake. I didn't time it, but the entire pre-wash + machine wash process lasted maybe 4-5 minutes. After that, you can pull up to a rubber mat cleaning station (water spray) and/or one of several vacuum cleaning stations. Those stations are DIY. There's also an air-conditioned/heated indoor lobby and lounge with restrooms. Clean Wheels offers detailing services up to $249. I think you might have to book an appointment if you want a detail. For a wash, you can just pull up during business hours. My wife and I have never had to wait long for a wash. At the facility, water is recycled and dirty soap is captured so it doesn't enter the environment. read more

It's a car wash, what makes them worth going there is the people who work at the Chapel Hill location. They are friendly, respectful of my car. Always have a smile and (closer to the "tunnel") a wave. The young lady who seems to be there almost all the time knows how to handle minor (programed machine/check-ins) delays with no drama or blame of others. Both my husband and I at different times during the day refilled our gas tank at the gas station where the car wash is located and were asked if we needed a car wash at the pump. We both checked yes and then we were asked if we wanted a "ceramic" car wash for $25 rather than the regular $10 wash. We both said no, but the receipt added $25 to the gas bill and gave us a 5 digit code to use for the car wash. Once we went to the car wash and entered the 5 digit code, the machine would not take it as it looked like it would only take codes with 4 digits. At this point the person working at the car wash came over and only entered 4 digits. This to me looks like a scam because the pump asks if you want the car wash and when you say "NO," it ignores you and still charges you the $25 for the expensive wash. In addition you get a 5 digit code but the car wash only requires 4 digits. This is when the person who prewashes the cars shows up and only enters 4 of the 5 digits. The whole thing sounds ridiculous and clearly someone is making money out of it. read more

I came here recently to get my car washed and was pleasantly surprised at how easy / wonderful it was! For less than $17, I got the mid-tier wash, which includes people doing a brief exterior wash on your car, the carwash itself, and then free use of the vacuums and towels. I was in and out of there in 20 minutes! My car looks brand new, and I'm definitely coming back next time I need it cleaned. read more

I didn't realize that there will be staff scrubbing my car before the wash as well as wiping it after the wash. I tipped them in cash which seems to go into the tip jar for the whole team. Let me tell you about this car wash. It is the best $10 I ever spent--it was easy and fast they offer free easy to use vacuums and other aids to efficiently clean your car. As you approach the wash tunnel, there were two gentlemen to prep your wheels and brushing off mud etc on the rocker panels on your car before you enter. After moving through the wash, they're set up with the tools for you to clean the car's interior more easily: you can reach everywhere with the powerful and long vacuum hoses. If you want to get the wet spots off your car or want to clean the door frames, they have damp black rags to do so (also free to use). They are in a cooler on a table by the building in the vacuum area. My favorite cleaning tool is their giant beater bar for the floor mats: stick your mat in the slot in the top, and move it up and down and the beater bar beats all the sand out. It is the best car wash I have ever experienced! read more

I am really struggling to push this review higher. The problem is that I am comparing it to other "high-end" automatic carwashes and I just can't give it any higher than a 3. If I just compare it to the carwashes in Chapel Hill, it is at least a 3 maybe a 4 because it does a good job of "cleaning" your car. However, it falls short when compared to the area competition. My main concern is the drying. Basically if you do not upgrade to the interior option ($12 more), you do not get the hand drying option. You would think that at $20 for the Supreme wash (highest level), that you would not need to get the hand drying option that comes with the interior upgrade. I am sad to report that if you do not get the hand drying, your car will not be dry after this wash. There is drying process in the carwash, but it is extremely weak. Almost nonexistent. I am not really sure why it was designed this way. Also, it has these strange flaps that drag over the car as you exit the dryer. The staff seems nice enough and they do an ok job when upgrading to the interior option. I hope these reviews help management adjust the process, design or pricing structure. Otherwise, I don't think this car wash will survive in Chapel Hill. read more

This automatic carwash left scratches on my car, mainly the hood. Thankfully, they were pretty light and I could buff most of them out. Hopefully, I didn't miss any. I was pleased with the carwash and the free vac before I noticed the scracthces on the hood. My car is black, so these might show up better than on cars of other colors. It is good and fast carwash, but I would rather not leave with scratches from the equipment they use. I won't be taking my car there again. read more

They didn't wipe down my dash clean out the cup holders wash clean the inside of the windows clean the door panels. Just all around awful. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Soooo we got egged on Halloween #MeToo and needed a good scrub down. The guys took extra time to prewash the car before going through the cycle. Even after the wash there was still some egg residue. If you don't mind paying $20 to clean your own car, this is the place! I stopped by this car wash during my lunch hour and paid $20 for a car wash. For $20, you run your car through some water and soap and brightly colored lights, and on the other side you get to get out, vacuum your car yourself "for free", and then attempt to dry the VERY WET car with damp towels. When I asked for dry towels to dry my car, I was told they do not have any. When I complained about having to essentially wash my own car (dressed for work), and "dry" it with wet towels, for $20, and asked what, exactly, we are paying for, I was told "Well, it got clean, didn't it?" When I pulled around the first vacuum head kept coming off. They ran out of towels. My wife paid for them to do the inside as well. This service shouldn't be offered as they only wash the mats. (Had one minor incident which he remedied immediately)We have 3 cars on the monthly plan which is currently $10 off = $29.99 a good deal for UNLIMITED washes, convenient during pine pollen season (awful this year) I like the free vacuum (although seems weak) and ESPECIALLY the unlimited clean, but helpfully damp, hand towels for DIY car nuts. I'm very picky about door jams, hatch hinge area. One caveat: if you drive an expensive LUXURY vehicle I'd recommend you ask them NOT to use their 'bug brush' on your painted surfaces. It will SCRATCH YOUR CLEAR COAT. These 'micro-scratches' can be removed by professional buffing but it's better not to damage your finish in the first place. Best FULL SERVICE car wash in our area is still TC's (SouthSquare Durham) but nearly always long lines and around 30-45 min waiting. read more

I have used this car was in the past and they did an awesome job. Went there this past Saturday and the car wash was not busy, but they did a terrible job. They did not vacuum the back of my 4 Runner out and then I had to have the attendant wipe down over half of my vehicle where there was still water on the vehicle. Also I asked them to wipe down my running boards because they are automatic and was told they would do them. But I had to ask for that to be redone also. I purchased the $32 wash so you would think it would have been done correctly. Tire shine was a hit miss job.
