We had all our home windows replaced in 2011. We were happy with the product, price and service at the time of install. We recently had a service call and Tyler in the Urbandale office explained how I could fix my problem. After looking at my window, I realized my balancers are different from the newer display products. I went back to the office and he took the time to follow me home and fix the problem on the spot. We hired Clear Choice Exteriors to fix the weather damage on my mother's house 2 months ago. Jordan Nevitt was the salesman and we talked with him about my mother being medically retired and can't afford a big payment past the insurance money. My mother's deductible is $500. I was assured they would work with us, After we paid 12,000 up front and when finished we paid another 8250. Then they billed my mother an extra $2,379.77. That doesn't add up. Also they broke the contract. They destroyed my mothers house and fixed 1 thing they did. First, they broke the antenna on the roof, which we had to pay someone to come fix it. They broke the light protectors on the security light in the back of the house ( I pointed this out to them and didn't get replaced). They had to attach storm protectors back on the outside of the basement windows, when they did this they bolted them on with trash inside them. They destroyed 2 downspouts. They replaced 1 because you could see it from the road but the one in the back of the house they just put a new screw in it. The downspout is sliced in the back and they didn't replace it. They also didn't clean up their trash and destroyed my mothers plants and flowers. There is no way I'm paying the extra $2,379.77 due to then breaking the contract. They put a lien on my mothers house which is completely wrong. After inspecting my mother's house today on the inside of her patio they nailed the siding right thru the walls by the windows. We had extensive hail damage to our residence, an outbuilding, and an office rental property. Clear Choice from Urbandale, Iowa did a prompt assessment which included siding, window wraps, roofing, gutters, downspouts, and gutter toppers. The work was completed, and they did a great job! This involved two different insurance companies and all we had to do was call the agents to submit the claims. Clear Choice worked with the insurance companies and took care of the rest. It was a great relief to have them handle the specifics. They were always professional and got the work done as soon as possible. I highly recommend them. read more

Starting to get concerned. Having 5 new large windows installed across back wall of house. 12 -16 week time frame for windows being completed has long passed. Called on 10/18 and was told windows would be in on the 21st and would get a call to schedule install. Still have not heard anything as of 10/31. Want to make sure windows are correct before install starts because I don't want back wall of house covered in plywood through the winter waiting for new window(s). May be time to request money back and look somewhere else. I'll post again when something happens and change review as needed. read more

Awful business. I purchase a set of new windows for my home about 3 years ago, and I have had nothing but problems. Ever since these windows have been installed, I have had a terrible issue with dust. I'm not talking about a thin layer, but a perpetual and constant layer of dust... damn near dirt. The windows leak cold air, and you can even hear the wind howl through the house. Furthermore, we try to get the issue fixed and Clear Choice states the window company went belly under and they can't help with anything. Now it's been years of them refusing to call back. I would not even recommend this company to my worst enemy. They are appalling. read more

DO NOT USE CLEAR CHOICE EXTERIORS!! VERY VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXTREMELY LONG WAIT TIME. For starters.. One of my windows was defective. The latches came loose and when asked to fix they sent someone to GLUE THE SCREWS IN. (professional I know...) After that expectedly failed I was told they would order a new sash which ive been waiting months for. Now that I left a bad google review I was told that it was in but I would have to come pick it up (1.5 hour dive) or they would have the manufacturer ship one to me. He also added "our relationship was over" Lets back up to the install.... my kitchen has 8 floor to ceiling windows which the frames were rotten. The installer told me he would reframe for $250 per window which I paid. 3 of the columns in between the windows were protruding a full inch which made the drywall I had to replace stick out so far I couldn't put the trim back up. I was told I would probably be charged to have them come fix their mistakes so I spent 3 hours fixing myself. Save yourself the headache and the "I told you so's" READ ALL OF THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON GOOGLE IM NOT THE ONLY ONE... I wish I would have read them before I chose the sign the contract. read more

When the storm blew through a couple months ago, I had to find replacement windows fast. ClearChoice offered the best prices around (I researched), and after seeing their work, they are of high quality. The installers aren't the most outgoing of people, but they know what they are doing and they do it right. I choose them because I loved the design; the way the screens fit in and the way the handles work. It was great that I could redesign a few of my windows. This windows installation I used Clear Choice for, should have been, an uneventful job/installation. The salesman was great (Ron). Early on, Jordan was great with letting me know promptly that the order arrived and scheduled an install. The scheduled install is where everything has since gone south. Scheduled the installation date for 06/10/19. Jordan advised it would be a one day job, and gave me a timeframe on when the installers would arrive. I take the day off work to accommodate the project. The 8-10 timeframe passes, no call and no show from the installers. Call Clear Choice, advised I got bumped to the afternoon, to accommodate another "small job" with another time window. I was a bit annoyed at this point, but accommodating. Time window passes again, nothing. Call Clear Choice again, they check. Installer calls, gives some excuse, and said it would be a two day job. That was opposite of what Jordan stated. I wasted a day off for nothing. Got another appointment scheduled for 06/29/19, that I had more flexibility. Installers showed up, albeit 15-30 min past the time window (I have a pet peeve for that by the way), and no call saying they were on the way. Got two windows installed without incident, did find one with a manufacturer defect, which could not be detectable while wrapped in its packaging. It happens, I get it, the installers did catch it while doing the install. Start on the rest of the (smaller windows), none of them were the right size. Found that to be weird since the measurements were correct on the work order. Best thing that could be done was finish up on the windows that did get installed. Jordan did call back the following business day, did advise the incorrect windows were for another similar name. Again, it happens, especially with a common name. Got another accommodating day to finish the job, and was under the impression the defective replacement was also getting taken care of. Installation day for the rest of the windows, done without incident, with the exception of the defect, because the replacement never arrived. Also slightly annoyed, I was not communicated of this prior to the install job, nor was I communicated the installers were en route, again. Get word the replacement for the defect is in, schedule a date (08/30/19) to replace and finish this window once and for all (including the final wrap). Long story short, no advance call by the installer, no call back from Clear Choice when asking on the status. Took me another call to get some excuse why they did not complete the job. After the first missed install, which Jordan and Rob both admitted was on the company, and "is not how we do business," the proposed resolution by Rob was never delivered, per an email after the 06/10 missed appointment. I called and asked for Rob on the recent scheduled date to complete the job, which he was out of the office. The person on the phone stated that she would have him get a hold of me. However, after reading other negative reviews which stated that the company never returned their calls/messages, I immediately had my doubts that Rob would voluntarily call me right back without really escalating this issue. After filing a BBB complaint, initially no response was made. Only Jordan called, not to own up to screwing up yet again, but to schedule the final piece and wrap. A follow-up was made to Clear Choice from the BBB, which only then, the company responded that "it is being taken care of" without even acknowledging my proposed resolution. My guess, the company did not even read the complaint. I refused to accept that as a resolution. Only then, Rob reaches out to me. Not so much to apologize for the company's crap service, but came off as upset that I filed a BBB complaint in the first place. Not the way to run a business, Rob!! The scheduled final piece was installed the day Jordan and I scheduled. Mike's crew was the only good that came with this whole ordeal. Since the company never came back acknowledging my proposed resolution (and completely getting blown off from the proposed resolution from Rob after the first missed appointment), BBB was then notified again, and Clear Choice blew the BBB off as well. The company's accreditation status is now revoked. Sure hope there never had issues with the windows with the crap this company has pulled. read more

The Salesman was great. Talked to him in early April. We ordered 20 windows, a front door with with windows and a screen door, and a sliding door for the deck. Was told that the windows would be ready in 8 weeks. We paid our down payment and everything was great. June came and we were expecting a call to set up installation. Nothing. Because of covid we figured things were a bit behind. No worries. July came - Still had not heard anything. August came - We still had not heard anything. So we called Clear Choice. The person we talked to said "oh yeah, your windows are here we just need to schedule the installation. So appointment scheduled and they came out. They mis - ordered 6 of the windows and the screen door was the wrong color. So they put in what they had and needed to come back again. They asked for more money. Since most of the work done - we paid them more. A month later they came back with the windows and screen door and the shudders (September now). We asked on the phone how much was owed (final payment) and we were told a price. We had a check waiting for them. When the windows were completed we paid them - in full. As we were told. One window had a problem with the bar used to raise and lower the window. We informed clear choice immediately. A man came out and took pictures. and left. In October, 100's of bugs started crawling inside our house - in the bedrooms. We looked and the insulation or felt piece that is between the screen and the window were missing on at least 6 of the windows so the bugs were just coming on in. We called, talked to a representative who said take pictures and sent to their clear choice g-mail account. We did this, have not heard a word. Clear Choice has also not been in contact with us about the window that is busted. No contact at all - to inform us of the status. Than today, I get a phone call from clear choice - out of the blue - over a month after the windows put in. I am told that we owe them $900. Now we asked is September how much we owed, and we were told a price. We paid that - I asked was this payment in full - I was informed yes. I asked the gentleman on the phone - what the status of our requests for fixing the windows was - he said there was no work order, but he would check on it. But they would not do any repairs at all until they received payment in full. I told the gentleman that we thought we had paid everything in full in September. Now I did check through our paperwork and found we did owe an additional $900 so I had no issues paying the amount. But the gentleman wanted payment ASAP and than reiterated that no work would be done until payment in full received. So I told him to come out tomorrow. The windows themselves - I think once all the problems are resolved are very good. The front door and sliding back door look great. Very happy. Customer service wise: Clear Choice does not communicate well, They do not let you know what is going on, they are slow to respond. When I tell them 100's of bugs are coming in - I at least expect someone to call quickly to set up an appointment - even if a few weeks out. That did not occur - at any time during the process. No phone calls at all - not even to schedule the date of installation - I had to call them. And remember, NO REPAIR WORK SHALL BE DONE AT ALL, UNTIL PAYMENT IS RECEIVED IN FULL read more

This was our 1st time hiring out a job and it was an average experience. Our salesman was great, and once we made the decision to go with clear choice after a few other quotes getting the windows ordered was a breeze. Then we waited, and waited. After giving ample time for windows to arrive and when estimated date came and went, we started inquiring about an update. Then it was the next week then the next. After a month of waiting we had a day set up for installers to get started. And we waited some more and about the time they were to arrive I get a call that installer had family emergency and we needed to reschedule. I get it things happen but this did not make us happy, luckily my husband and I had taken a random Wednesday off so they could get started and we'd be home. Day one of install went pretty well and needed to continue into the next day. They next day installers didn't show up til about noon and stayed til 9PM. I commend them for sticking it out and getting the job done but after some inspection some of the trim on the inside of the windows was damaged and looked pretty bad and had they been able to start sooner then things wouldn't have gotten rushed. Overall we are happy with the new look of our house, and we are satisfied with the product themselves, the company on the other hand could communicate better and make sure that their customers are taken care of in the specified amount of time. read more

Very disappointing! We bought 20+ new Clear Choice windows 2 years ago. Last winter, we had to put plastic on several of them because they were leaking. We called and someone came out and adjusted them and caulked them. This winter, we have plastic on several of them again. I have called twice since Christmas and both times was assured that someone would call me back to set up a time to come look at them. It has been 2 weeks since the last phone call, yet no one has called us back. Terrible customer service. read more

HORRIBLE COMPANY!! DO NOT USE THEM! Poor quality, crappy installers. They put up 16 windows in 5 hours....should have taken 2 days to do it right! Had to come back several times to get them right and we're still not sure they are in right! No one would return calls b/c they knew it was a 1/2 ass job! Even the guy that came back to help couldn't believe the crappy job that was done! The people in charge don't care about their customers...they just want their money! There are PLENTY of other great window companies in the Des Moines area that will put your windows in right and treat the customer right! Don't waste your time or money!
