Our last evening in Midland, thought we try this place. We started off with appetizers the infamous onion rings & Stingers. The onion rings I will say, had a light batter & were hot off the fryer. We could not contain ourselves & consumed enough to ruin our entree. The stingers on the other hand were average. The stingers tasted & appeared to have been retried, not good. I had the Grande Margarita, which tasted good & sweet, the margarita was served in a schooner, so the portion serving was large. I drank the whole thing, honestly no alcohol effects. Not sure if the drink had any alcohol. We had the chicken fried steak, catfish, & shrimp. The chicken fried steak was a large portion that was served with sweet corn & mash potatoes. Now I don't usually eat chicken fried steak, I will say this was the best chicken fried streak! The corn was cooked perfectly not too sweet! The potatoes light & filling. The catfish looked as if we were going to be disappointed- wrong! The perfect batter here as well with the shrimp. However the beans that were served, tasted over cooked & the slaw lacked something, not sure what. So we just didn't eat the beans or slaw. The pickles we're really good and so we're the garlic mashed potatoes, but the chicken was super crispy a little too crispy for me personally, the coleslaw was really vinegary I probably would never come back but it was still good and the server was really nice. read more

Clearly there was a full house... one parking spot left when we arrived... we decided since we had a good experience a month ago eating at Clear Springs, we decided to venture on. Big mistake... even though our wait time was 5mins... when we were seated..our waiter seemed overworked & had too many tables IMO. That aside--- we should have been told upfront that the real hand breaded chicken fried steak was all gone and that a substitute frozen meat cutlet would be substituted. The meat was awful.. the potatoes were cold & my salad was tasteless. We were hoping for a repeat of our lunch a month ago at Clear Springs but that was not to be. We travel to midland weekly for business & we were really looking forward to dining again at clear Springs Restaurant. As far as saying something to the waiter or asking for a mgr... There was no time with our schedule nor the opportunity to get our waiters attention... he only checked on us twice.. once to take our order & once to bring the check. We were needing to get back to our business schedule, So we just got the check and left. Unless the menu changes and real meat ( not frozen cutlets) is served... then we won't bother coming back. As can be seen in the pics I snapped of our meal...this was not a fresh meat hand-breaded chicken fried steak... this was a frozen food item straight out of a white freezer box. The meat was tough & flavorless. The mashed potatoes were cold & the salad I ordered was littered with **yellow** lettuce... the parts of lettuce I throw away at home because it tastes so bad. It is unfortunate that we could see that with the restaurant being overcrowded & with our waiter no where to be found... we just left. No one likes wasting money or paying for one thing and receiving something sub-par. Nobody wins in this situation. read more

I'm from where the original Clear Springs is located and let me tell ya, it's so good to have a place that's home away from home. When I found out there was a Clear Springs in West Texas, I had to see if it was like the original and it really was. I love how they added some of the older pictures from down South where the original restaurant is located... just adds a pinch of home to me. Best onion rings & cheese sticks! read more

Eh, it's ok. I have some mixed experiences from this restaurant. We seem to alway have decent service, but some times it's slower. Wish the food was a touch better, but it's a good option in a pinch. read more

Service was sub par and food was the same. The only exception would be the gumbo. The atmosphere was terrific as well.

So as you walk in, there's a very open cafeteria type setting and lots of stuff on walls like TGIF. Seems popular yet there's not much around so that explains that. Ordered a $18 sirloin steak with veggies. Ordered med/rare but was more med well. Meat was horribly tough and broccoli waold and tasteless. The green beans were the best part of the meal. Not impressed by food at all. For $18 steak, I expected better. Then again, this is west nowhere and not typical Texas hospitality or quality. Update, I received a reply from manager who didn't really care my steak was crap, just that they're proud to serve the community, blah blah blah. If they really cared, I'd have a complimentary meal coming. Wouldn't come back anyway even if they offered. read more

This restaurant is not following Covid 19 for Texas they want to enforce the mask rule with some but let others come in with out them. they do not follow the Covid 19 protocols. They seat over the 50% and the same hostess that sometimes follows the corporate face mask rule tries to seat groups of 12 when the state rule is 10. Social distancing is a joke I was seat within 3 foot of a table and had people both behind me and in front of me with no shields between us. So what is the company doing about it? nothing I spoke to the manager and he said i will talk to her. Did he? no he went right back to kitchen and she sat the others with out the facemasks, watched her seat three and said I did see them and she was the one who seated them. This restaurant is very liberal in following of the rules. Food was ok if it was me I would drive down the road to McDonalds same service and food is just as good. This is typical Midland Texas service. Talked with Corp office and they said the GM would either call or email me back have not heard from him. So looks like same Midland service. Took my Mom here for Mother's Day. She had the pork chops, and said they were the best she had ever eaten!! I had the chicken fried steak, which was so tender, you could cut it with your fork!! Service and food was fantastic! read more

Had dinner with my son Saturday night. Service was great. Our server was very attentive, my son (14yo) got the fried catfish and I had the pork rib eye. My son at all his dinner and loved it. The pork rib eye was cooked perfectly and very flavorful! Highly recommend this place! read more

I tried the takeout option last night and it was a complete disaster. I called in a large order but they told me it would be ready in 15 min. Actual wait time for the first time I got my order was 35 min. After I received my order and left I realized they had given me only about 1/2 of my order. I went back to get the remainder of my cold meal. 1 hour 15 minutes later I was able to bring dinner home. Here are a few other items the missed and was able to verify on the receipt Ordered fried pickles but got onion rings Ordered 1/2 catfish 1/2 shrimp on the family pack but got all catfish There aren't many good fish options in Midland. Traveling from out of state and stopped in for early dinner. We had a wonderful meal and service was efficient and friendly. I had the fried shrimp which was more like a tempura batter. They let me pick my 3 sides so I chose a house salad which was more like a mini Cobb, green beans and fries. Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was family oriented. Great service, delicious food. The atmosphere is a bit loud and open. We prefer a bit more intimate environment, but the food makes up for the overwhelmingly open lay out. Our service was spot on. The grilled chicken salad is incredible! Seriously the best chicken salad in town! Stingers were tasty and a nice break from the typical stuffed jalapeños. I had the Grilled Shrimp with cajun rice and broccoli. The shrimp was delicious it had a lot of flavor and I got a small cup of garlic butter to dip it in. The wait was pretty long since we came here for lunch for a bday, but other than that I enjoyed my meal. The broccoli could have been more steamed though. read more

If that is a little steep then I would recommend the old fashioned hamburger which is $6.95. The hamburger also comes with fries. The noise level is average, and it's a good place to bring a large group of friends or co-workers. They have a lot of fried food, so if that is your thing then you should give this place a try! When I arrived in Midland I was happy that "the Best Seafood Restaurant" was next to my hotel. Then I ate there. I wish I had looked at the yelp pictures before hand. You will note that everything is served in styrofoam. styrofoam bowls, plates, cups . . . That says a LOT for "Best Seafood Restaurant". When I think of the best, I picture REAL dinnerware, so you taste the food, not styrofoam. The dinner looked better than it was. The Shrimp Brochette were beautifully arranged over the rice (see picture) but were slightly overcooked, but the disgrace was in the bacon wrapping. They used pieces of the cheapst cut of rind bacon, heavy in fat and hard to chew, and tasting closer to salt pork without the salt. The green beans tasted as though from a can, the coleslaw had that styrofoam flavor you get from KFC or Long John's, and the rice was bland. My service was lousy. He only came by 1 time to take my order, someone else brought my "dinner", then he brought my check. Never even came by to top up my water. This was my first time in Midland. While staying at hotel within walking distance, I strolled in on a Tuesday around 12:30. The place was packed, which is always a good sign to me. The wait was less than 10 minutes. So far, so good. After being seated, my server Michelle was waiting on a rather large party. When she got to my table, she apologized for the wait. I asked her about the chicken fried chicken and she mentioned it was delicious and a good size, so I ordered it with a side of corn and onion rings. The portion was huge! I couldn't finish the plate! The chicken was fantastic and the onion rings were terrific! After paying the bill, Michelle even offered me a refill of my root beer to go. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area. Thanks for the apology. The facts are we waited a very long time. We were a party of 11 people. After waiting for at least an hour, we gave up and told them we will just sit down at any table. Obviously, your professional staff were to busy looking pretty and flirting to be concern with saving tables and the people watching from the outside window. They just kept sitting everyone else that came in. We finally get in at three different tables. Then a party of 10 walks in and in less then 10 minutes they are pushing tables together for them. I just feel bad I was the one who suggesting going to your restaurant. I wanted to leave after 30 minutes of waiting outside in the cold. I will never make that mistake again. read more

My co-worker recommended that I stop in and try this place on a recent business trip to Midland. Finding the restaurant was not difficult and plenty of parking was available. This place gets very busy at lunch and for good reason. The food here is delicious. Being a party of one, I was seated promptly. The staff were observing Covid 19 precautions and I felt safe during my dining experience. I decided to get a seafood combo in which I chose their catfish and fried shrimp. It also came fries, hush puppies, coleslaw, and red beans. Quite honestly, it was a ton of food! I walked out super full. Everything was delicious and prepared to perfection. I was very pleased with my meal choice. I was informed after that a smaller meal was available which I will order next time. The staff were very friendly. I never had to wait to have my drink refilled which is always a sign of good service. I would go back again should business ever bring me back to Midland. We waited for a while abs noticed an entire section that was empty and plenty big to sit our group. When we asked about it, they said they couldn't sit us there because it has 2 separate servers. We told them that was fine, we were even willing to split our group to different tables, and they still refused. Then they told us couldn't sit us all together because it wouldn't be fair to give us to just one server, so they were going to sit us at different tables all over the restaurant. Been to all four of these locations when traveling. There's one thing for sure that you can count on is consistency. This time I had the whole family with me. Got my traditional Old Fashioned Cheeseburger with fries. Onion rings as a starter was a great way to go. Kids got some ice cream for dessert.
