She and her elderly friend were unable to set up the phone, and there is no local customer service office in that city. My mom had no car, had just moved there, and had no other local support. I spent over 30 hours on the phone and made two in-person visits to my local Spectrum store trying to get her money refunded. Then, just today, I found out they ripped me off, too! When I upgraded my own phone through Spectrum, the phone support agent made it sound like I was getting a huge trade-in deal on my 1-year-old phone and would pay only $157. In reality, the $157 was the trade-in value--and I owed $842 for the new phone. This was a long conversation with the tech, and I was overjoyed with my deal. There is no universe in which I would have knowingly agreed to upgrade my 1-year-old phone....why, except for the fake deal of the century, apparently. They blatantly lied and buried the truth in the contract fine print. This company preys on the elderly in their own homes. They will take advantage of you if you let them. Once at the retail outlet a sign in appointment is required. Staff seems completely unaware and not concerned how long the wait is and leave the service area for breaks and unexplained reasons for long periods of time.
