The person who fixed them warned me that the worst frames could possibly snap but he'd give it a try. You can tell they know their stuff too because he knew exactly where I had purchased each frame. 10 minutes later he came back with all of my frames fixed. But I attributed it to maybe she was having a bad day or something. When I picked up my glasses, she just handed them to me, and when I put them on, they were so obviously crooked on my face. I told her they were crooked, and she did a BIG HEAVING SIGH, took them from me, and went back to adjust them. She returned, they were still crooked, and she reluctantly made a second adjustment. She acted like I was annoying her. Zero spirit of service. I recently went in for my annual appointment and things went downhill from there. The same optician was curt to me, mentioning to me that the doctor was running "a few minutes late". Understandable. I asked a few clarifying questions to the optician about timing because there was another appointment going on, and another person waiting there, and she started to get combative and nasty with me. And then, wait for it, she called me "honey" in a derogatory manner. Yes. It's 2026 and a female patient is being called honey by a woman who is clearly unhappy at her job. I asked, "Did you call me honey?" She said "Yup!". I asked her to cancel my appointment. Sadly, I really like Dr. Ding here, but I'll just go back to my prior eye place in my old zip code. I predict that this employee has gotten away with a nasty attitude for a long time. I've struggled with contacts, changing prescriptions, and chronic dry eye, and her treatment has helped me so much (better quality contacts, special drops for a couple weeks, and thorough exams for accurate diagnoses and prescriptions). I've always come to Lickteig as an adult (previously the one in Natick) and have always found my experiences much better than anywhere else I've gone growing up! Plus the yearly optomaps are great to have for acute detection of any health risks or eye concerns. When I visited a few months ago for bad dry eye (successfully treated!), Dylanee (?) was so friendly and helpful at reception. Last weekend I went for annual exam for my contacts & glasses, and the receptionist was so efficient and friendly (girl with clear glasses and black hair). My mother booked an appointment with the other receptionist, and was really pleased with her service and is excited to visit.

Not only was I kept waiting over an hour for this appointment, but my insurance didn't cover it so I had to pay for it. Dr. I recommended that I have a series of laser treatments at $250 each. AND she told me a horror story about how I could go blind if I didn't do it. Then, when my glasses came in the alignment or something was way off. I had it checked and redone redone twice. The lenses alone cost $650 because they were progressives with prism. (They were never right but I gave up.) When I told them I couldn't see well enough to drive wearing the glasses, they didn't believe me and said I just had to get used to progressives even though I explained that I had had progressives before. So, I had to return three times and wait a long time even though I had appointments. At the time, I wrote a negative review. The owner contacted me and asked me to take it down and he'd give me a free pair of prescription sunglasses lens. (I provided the frames.) I'm submitting this again because it's a year later and I went to another eye doctor. Now, after a good experience at Boston Vision, I know I was right to complain. Sure, prescriptions change, but I found out the contacts didn't even correct my astigmatism, which is the main reason I wear them, and the glasses were way off. Not only that, but no one tried to sell me any lasers or drops or eye masks. When it came to tests, they carefully explained my choices because some were included under my insurance and others weren't.

The appointments also felt heavily focused on selling additional products and services. I was repeatedly advised about dry eye concerns and encouraged to purchase eye patches, eye drops, and even consider laser treatments. While dry eye is certainly a legitimate condition, I found it difficult to reconcile the extensive recommendations with the relatively limited amount of time spent examining my eyes and my vision. I also paid for what was described as a custom contact lens fitting. To their credit, the office allowed me to return multiple times for trial lenses until we found a pair that worked reasonably well. However, the overall process felt disorganized. During one follow-up, after another long wait, I was asked why I hadn't brought back a previous prescription so they could determine what I needed next. I assumed the office would have maintained those records as part of the fitting process. By the end, I wasn't even confident that the contact lens prescription I received reflected the final lenses we had settled on. The billing was another disappointment. Several charges were not covered by my insurance, and I never felt I received a clear explanation of what I was paying for or why. The distinction between a contact lens exam and a custom contact lens fitting was confusing, and I would have appreciated greater transparency before agreeing to the services. Despite my insurance covering services, I was billed extra fees just to receive a prescription and for services clearly marked as included. I ordered glasses and specifically requested they use my current prescription. The doctor had provided a placeholder for a stronger option, but I told the associate I did not want to use that for at least one pair. They ignored my request and ordered the glasses with the stronger prescription anyway. My wife returned the glasses on my behalf and explained the mistake. They dismissed her and insisted the order was correct. I couldn't get there myself without taking time off work, so I waited until my next appointment. When I explained the issue in person, I was told flatly: "That's your problem." I was stunned. No accountability. No apology. No interest in fixing their error. I figured maybe it was me, maybe I wasn't giving my eyes a break while viewing a screen when I was supposed to so I kept using them. At my next eye appointment (I go somewhere else for medical reasons) I asked them to check and see if the glasses matched the prescription and they said they were way off, that because of astigmatism it's important that they be centered correctly. So, I called and asked for the owner to talk about the error in the glasses. She did not return my call for about a week and when she did she seemed really defensive saying that it is not possible that the glasses left there with a flaw. Then said that they had to special order the frames because I wanted old frames which I was very appreciative of and thanked her again for. She then said that it had been a year since I got the glasses to which I replied I think it's been 9 months but thinking, who cares, I wasn't asking her for anything. I was calling to let her know that the person working on the glasses may need some more training on centering glasses. And to order new glasses with the new prescription I just received (that I did Not expect free at this point but was hoping for a discount due to driving cross-eyed-ish for 9 months). During the booking process, I completed all necessary paperwork, including submitting images of both my medical and vision insurance cards. Vision North lists United as an in-network provider on their website. After scheduling, I received multiple texts emphasizing their strict 24-hour cancellation policy and warning that unconfirmed appointments would be canceled. I confirmed my appointment several times. Then, on the morning of my appointment, I received a text at 7:23 AM informing me that my appointment had been canceled because Dr. Miller was unavailable--just three hours before I was supposed to be seen. Given their rigid policies, this was frustrating. At 8:13 AM, I received a call from the office offering me a later appointment at 11:00 AM with a different doctor. I rearranged my work schedule again to accommodate. Upon arrival, I checked in and was asked to wait. Shortly after, I was informed that my insurance was actually out of network and that I would be responsible for the full cost of the visit. At this point, it was clear that this office is completely disorganized and unprofessional so I left. In a city like Boston--home to some of the best healthcare in the world--this level of incompetence is inexcusable. Save yourself the frustration and avoid Vision North.
