If I could give zero stars, I would. I booked an appointment with Dr. Mallory Miller on March 13th for April 1st at 10:30 AM. During the booking process, I completed all necessary paperwork, including submitting images of both my medical and vision insurance cards. Vision North lists United as an in-network provider on their website. After scheduling, I received multiple texts emphasizing their strict 24-hour cancellation policy and warning that unconfirmed appointments would be canceled. I confirmed my appointment several times. Then, on the morning of my appointment, I received a text at 7:23 AM informing me that my appointment had been canceled because Dr. Miller was unavailable--just three hours before I was supposed to be seen. Given their rigid policies, this was frustrating. At 8:13 AM, I received a call from the office offering me a later appointment at 11:00 AM with a different doctor. I rearranged my work schedule again to accommodate. Upon arrival, I checked in and was asked to wait. Shortly after, I was informed that my insurance was actually out of network and that I would be responsible for the full cost of the visit. At this point, it was clear that this office is completely disorganized and unprofessional so I left. In a city like Boston--home to some of the best healthcare in the world--this level of incompetence is inexcusable. Save yourself the frustration and avoid Vision North. read more

I've been going to Vision North for the past two years now and it's the first eye doctor where I have never, ever, dreaded an appointment. Cayla Bergstrom is a big reason for that as she is by far the best doctor I've seen. She's incredibly patient, kind, and understanding especially since I have sensitivity with any liquids near my eyes -- I'm sure I don't make eye exams easy but her calming effect always makes me feel more confident. The two ladies working at the front desk are also exceptionally welcoming and do a great job to always make sure I don't want my eyes dilated, which I appreciate. Just about the best staff out there. Arrived 5-10 minutes early for my 12:30. Its 1:15pm & I still haven't heard a word, other than "we'll see you shortly" from the receptionist, 25 minutes ago. It is clear that my time does not matter here. Also was charged $85 for my "contact fitting", which apparently wasn't part of my eye exam to get my contact prescription renewed. Yesterday was my first time going to Vision North. I had found them through VSP (my insurance). I had my annual eye exam, and a fitting for my glasses. The receptionist was super helpful in reviewing the new patient information, and all the disclosures I had to sign. There was a hardly a wait time at all, in fact I think I was seen earlier than my appointment. Dr. Cayla Bergstrom was awesome. She was super friendly, and was really great/thorough about going over the health of my eyes. I will definitely go back next year to her for my annual exam. I recommend her to anyone :) The selection of the eye frames is also extensive. They have reasonably priced frames, and then also the higher end ones for people who like those (such as me!). Chris was also incredibly patient with me as I tried on numerous pairs of glasses. I can be very picky and indecisive, and he even waited while I FaceTime'd my mother to get her input. This was not a sales/retail employee rushing you to just pick any old frame. He really cared about customer satisfaction, and had a great eye (no pun intended) for what shape worked best for my face. I am including here a review that I wrote to the office in response to an e-mail they sent asking me to help them improve their service. I'll say upfront that I am not a regular client; I went here because he was the contractor assigned to do my exam for an employer. I'm glad to read all the good reviews from most everyone else. It seems like he treats his regular clients better than these one-offs like myself where he probably doesn't get paid much. Still, "the true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good." I hate to speak poorly of anyone, but I also believe it's important to show all facets of a business, and I think my review can provide a more nuanced picture of the provider, If Dr. Cangiano "strives to provide professional and courteous service each and every visit," as written in the e-mail inviting me to help them improve their service, I didn't see that. I felt like he rushed me through the whole process, felt annoyed by my questions about the procedures and results, and was dismissive of me. I assured him that I wanted to know my results just out of curiosity and personal interest (I am interested in going into the health care field, so I am curious about these things) and that I was not going to use the information to obtain any optical services; I have another office that provides my optical care. Therefore, it was purely out of curiosity that I wanted to know things. However, he was very cagey (maybe he thought it could affect his license) and refused to let me record the results. He spoke very quickly, making me feel like he had more important things to move onto. He explained a procedure I asked about very quickly while rushing me out of the room. There weren't any patients in the waiting area to see him, but I guess he still had other things to do. I didn't feel valued; it's probably true that he didn't value my business as he likely did not get paid very much as a contractor. He did not seem like he cared. I felt like a number and that Dr. Cangiano just tries to push through as many cases like mine as possible. I understand this might just be good business sense, but I'd hope that a health care provider would care about more than just money. The objective of my visit was achieved, and the person at the front desk was polite, but I am otherwise disappointed with this office and would not recommend it based on my experience. Further, I highly recommend changing the business's logo as it gives the impression that the business is sexist and that the only males are welcome or valued in that office. read more

One staff member is really rude when I pick up the glasses I ordered. The larger looking guy in their office became very impatient when I wanted to try the glasses. Instead of answering my questions, he kept asking me "do you want to wear your old glasses back home?" in a rude manner. Don't face customers if you have anger issue! read more

I'll begin by saying that Kelly at the front desk is amazing. She is friendly, polite, responsive and helpful. The rest of the staff is useless. When you're looking for glasses you have to have a heart attack or beg for assistance to even have a case opened never mind getting an opinion. The exam was perfunctory and wasn't with the doctor I wanted to schedule with. They then sent me to Opthalmic Consultants of Boston (another nightmare) for a non-existent hold in my eye. Oh, and the $300+ glasses they sold me about a year ago have crazing and have never fit properly in spite of multiple visits back for adjustment which I had to beg for. As a bespectacled gal, I get rather psyched up for my biennial eye exam and the prospect of new glasses. (Nerdy, I know.) This time around I had a small VSP provider network to choose from, so I went out on a limb and chose Vision North. I called and was able to get an appointment the following day after work. It's reasonably walkable from most downtown spots, or just a short jaunt from North Station. Dr. Cangiano was quite friendly and knowledgable. He took some fascinating and detailed digital photos of the ol' eyeballs (a first for me!) and then did a standard eye exam. I am a fierce hypochondriac, and he graciously answered all my crazy questions about my apparent increased risk of developing age-related macular degeneration. Everything went smoothly and I was out in about 20 minutes. Now, I think their prices were steep. Polycarbonate lenses with all the add-ons would have run me ~$180. That's a hell of a lot! I didn't bother pricing any frames after hearing that, so I can't comment on those. All I know is that my current pair of Italian made frames and polycarbonate lenses with all the add-ons cost me $150 at Costco sans insurance discount. I'm sure the prices are reflective of the location, but there are better deals to be had out there. read more

He spoke over me and did not want to listen to a single concern I was having and he told me to go elsewhere to get my contacts. But they were easily willing to work around my busy schedual to help me make the transition to contacts for the first time. 2 short appointments later I'm feeling great and got my contacts figured out. Dr. Cangiano is fantastic and the selection of quality frames is absurd. The doc is great ensuring your eye health is great and takes as much time with you as you need when you can't quite decipher between option 1? or 2?, 1? or 2?. He also has great style and can help you choose a frame that works best with your features. As a first time contact lens person, Dr. Cangiano was very patient as it seemed to take me forever to get the hang of it. He gave me options of lenses to try for a few weeks before opting for the larger purchase. Couldn't ask for more! The frame selection is great with various price points, and one of the few Chanel retailers in the area. Sunglasses are great too, Ray Bans and Kaenons! For three years I have been coming to Vison North. I was living on Commercial Street and needed some new contacts when I first met Dr. Cangiano. Not only was he a very respectful professional, he was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We spoke of fishing, boating and just about everything under the sun. It really is great when you have such good people helping you out. So long story short, I got my contacts, new glasses and a pair of shades too! This has been my go-to vision center ever since. Wow! Excellent service! Long story- but here goes. I came in with eye pain that wouldn't go away, and Dr. Paul M. Cangiano did a thorough examination. He took pictures of the back of the eye, and looked for anything that might be causing the pain. During the routine eye exam, took a genuine care in making sure everything was working fine. He also asked a lot of questions to see what might have been causing my eye pain, and in the end, prescribed eye drops that helped with the pain/allergies that were causing this issue. A week later, my eye twitch, eye pain, and dryness were all gone! During my visit, I also decided to buy new glasses and contacts. Best part? He and his assistant looked at my health insurance, and told me what would be the best approach in terms of glasses/contacts prices and made sure I went with what was most beneficial to me. I also got 2 pairs of free contact lenses to try out, decide which ones I wanted, and then bought the one that I thought was best. This location is right by Haymarket, and it's hours are truly great. I loved coming here! There is no doubt that my future glasses and contacts will all be from here!! read more

I'm from a small town in NY and I've been going to the same optometrist for about twenty years. I'd squeeze in appointments while visiting home and I've done just about everything I can do to avoid finding an eye doctor here. However, I found a BuyWithMe that had an exam and $$ towards eye glasses, which I desperately needed. This office isn't in a very convenient location for me but I can tell you that I'll make the extra effort to get there - Dr. Cangiano and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. After my exam, (I wish I could remember her name!) we spent quite some time picking out the perfect shape eyeglasses (which isn't an easy task as I'm very indecisive) and she even helped me select the right color. I ended up going with a cute pair of purple Tory Burch frames and I still adore them. Their prices are very reasonable and they'll definitely work with you to get you something that fits within your budget. I will definitely be going back when I'm ready for contacts. read more

Very pleasant atmosphere and the Dr. and staff are very nice. His exams are very thorough and you never feel rushed (in fact, don't make an appt. if you're in a hurry). The frame selection seems abundant but is actually deceiving: there are many frames displayed that are identical except for color variations. First time patient this past summer. Dr. C was unbelievably knowledgable, appointment was on time, he took extra care to explain certain things to me when I seemed interested, huge selection of frames, reasonable prices. The office was clean, welcoming, the receptionist was very friendly. (I used to work in a dentist office and know that if a few patients are waiting for the receptionist, the Dr. usually lets them wait, and tends to a personal phone call or email. ) I witnessed Dr. C assist a patient with his glasses selection, when the receptionist was busy with myself and another patient. I have never seen a professional care so much about his patients as people, and mindful of their time, as well as his. He actually saw me on the street a few days later and remembered my name! I purchased both glasses and contacts, he was not pushy about my having to place any orders, as I have heard from some horror stories on yelp. I do live near by, but chose his office because of the review I read on yelp. I had to leave my say for future women or men searching for an excellent eye doctor in the city. read more

I sat on my glasses! There I said it. Not proud of it. And I had to fly out of town! Dr. Cangiano had no problem with me dropping my crushed glasses off at his home to fix! My flight was cancelled so I went to his office instead. This flexibility is how Dr. Cangiano works with his patients! And he charged me nothing to fix what I broke! Also, Dr. Cangiano and his crack team helped me make lenses for my 3D printing hobby! No kidding. He made high quality, inexpensive lenses to fit my ASUS scanner. What other optometrist would do this? If I bought online these lenses would have cost much more. I have purchased at least one half dozen glasses and sunglasses from Vision North. The Vision North team worked with me. No hard sell, only patience and understanding. I wish Dr. Cangiano was also my primary care physician.... read more

Well, I used to give this place 4 stars for service, but then they really disappointed me. Dr. Caggiano is very nice and professional, but his assistant is incompetent. She failed to order my contacts, then ordered the wrong prescription and gave me attitude about it. Not to mention that they were closed for four days over Thanksgiving, so it has taken 2 and a half weeks to get my glasses instead of the one week they promised. Walked in to fill a lens prescription that I had gotten while traveling out of the country. I'd done this at the shop without a problem before, working with the woman at the front desk. This time the optician, larger gruff looking guy, came out. He pretended to not understand the script and told me he couldn't honor it. I said thanks, and made to leave, and the shop owner shouted after me, "well NO ONE will honor it!". Um, anger issues? So, I found a place later that afternoon that did. My husband and I had appointments at Vision North this afternoon and it was a great experience all around. You should give credit when it's due, so I wanted to write a review asap. For starters, Dr. Cangiano and his team are the best -- they're professional, helpful and (clearly) passionate about what they do. The office is a comfortable, beautifully renovated, and kid/baby-friendly space. We brought our 10-mth-old (who has lots of energy!) and there was plenty of room for our carriage and to walk around a bit, check out the eye products, or look out the big windows to Washington St. The equipment and care was far more progressive than that of other places I've been to (that seemed to utilize little more than a Snellen chart and a spoon). I also learned more about the health and condition of my eyes than I have in the past and felt really confident about my exam and prescription as a result. We drove all the way from the Northshore based on a recommendation and it was so worth it. I'm honestly looking forward to my appointment next year. No more procrastination! read more
